  • This paper describes an algorithm that can efficiently analyze the ECG signal using frame knowledge representation technique. Input to the analysis process is a set of significant points which have been extracted from an original sampled signal(lead II) by the syntactic peak recognition algorithm. The hierarchical property of ECG signal is represented by hierarchical AND/OR graph. The semantic information and constraints of the ECG signal are desctibed by frame. As the control mechanism for labeling points, the search mechanism with the mixed paradigms of data-driven and model driven hypothesis formation, scoring function, hypothesis modification network and instance inheritance are used. We used the CSE database in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • Because face has non-rigid structure and is influenced by illumination, we need robust face detection algorithm with the variations of external environments (orientation of lighting and face, complex background, etc.). In this paper we develop a new face detection algorithm to achieve robustness. First we transform RGB color into other color space, in which we can reduce lighting effect much. Second, hierarchical image segmentation technique is used for dividing a image into homogeneous regions. This process uses not only color information, but also spatial information. One of them is used in segmentation by histogram analysis, the other is used in segmentation by grouping. And we can select face region among the homogeneous regions by using facial features.

  • Automated production system is composed of many complicated techniques and it become a very difficult task to control, monitor and diagnose this compound system. Moreover, it is required to develop an effective diagnosing technique and reduce the diagnosing time while operating the system in parallel under many faults occurring concurrently. This study develops a Modular Artificial Neural Network(MANN) which can perform a diagnosing function of multiple faults with the following steps: 1) Modularizing a complicated system into subsystems. 2) Formulating a hierarchical structure by dividing the subsystem into many detailed elements. 3) Planting an artificial neural network into hierarchical module. The system developed is implemented on workstation platform with $X-Windows^{(r)}$ which provides multi-process, multi-tasking and IPC facilities for visualization of transaction, by applying the software written in $ANSI-C^{(r)}$ together with $MOTIF^{(r)}$ on the fault diagnosis of PI feedback controller reactor. It can be used as a simple stepping stone towards a perfect multiple diagnosing system covering with various industrial applications, and further provides an economical approach to prevent a disastrous failure of huge complicated systems.

  • This paper deals with the rule generation from data for control system and data mining using rough set. If the cores and reducts are searched for without consideration of the frequency of data belonging to the same equivalent class, the unnecessary attributes may not be discarded, and the resultant rules don't represent well the characteristics of the data. To improve this, we handle the inconsistent data with a probability measure defined by support, As a result the effect of uncertainty in knowledge reduction can be reduced to some extent. Also we construct the rule base in a hierarchical structure by applying core as the classification criteria at each level. If more than one core exist, the coverage degree is used to select an appropriate one among then to increase the classification rate. The proposed method gives more proper and effective rule base in compatibility and size. For some data mining example the simulations are performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a hierarchical fuzzy motion planner for humanoid robots in 3D uneven environments. First, we define both motion primitives and locomotion primitives of humanoid robots. A high-level planner finds a global path from a global navigation map that is generated based on a combination of 2.5 dimensional maps of the workspace. We use a passage map, an obstacle map and a gradient map of obstacles to distinguish obstacles. A mid-level planner creates subgoals that help the robot efficiently cope with various obstacles using only a small set of locomotion primitives that are useful for stable navigation of the robot. We use a local obstacle map to find the subgoals along the global path. A low-level planner searches for an optimal sequence of locomotion primitives between subgoals by using fuzzy motion planning. We verify our approach on a virtual humanoid robot in a simulated environment. Simulation results show a reduction in planning time and the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a new text-based method is suggested for the user-system interaction. The use of text-based user interface is mote efficient under situation which don't be introduced the GUI because of the limitation of hardware cost or improvement of system performance. The dialogical method using suggested hierarchical structure is the easier for a convenience of usage and the method in this paper is the more useful as considering knowledgeable background and environment of task for user As a practical example, the method for the proposed text-based user interface construction is applied to Double-Lift Open Shedding Electronic Jacquard.

  • In this paper we study the optimization issues of ring networks employing novel parallel multi-granularity hierarchical optical add-drop multiplexers (OADMs). In particular, we attempt to minimize the number of control elements for the off-line case. We present an integer linear programming formulation to obtain the lower bound in optimization, and propose an efficient heuristic algorithm called global bandwidth resource assignment that is suitable for the design of large-scale OADM networks.

  • In this paper, a simple hierarchical fuzzy inference system using structured Takagi-Sugeno type fuzzy inference units(SFIUs) is proposed. The number of fuzzy rules of the proposed HFIS is minimum in the sense of that only the number of partitions of each system variables, not of intermediate outputs of layered fuzzy controllers, are concerned. And resulted number of fuzzy rules is a summation of partition in each system variables. Gradient descent algorithm is used for adaptation of fuzzy rules. The ball and beam control is performed in computer simulation to illustrate the performance of the proposed controller.

  • The distributive processing job in a hierarchical computer network, which supervises and controls the complex relations between the variables periodically for raising the fault folerance, can be defined its periodicity and its execution time. All the job may be composed of the subsets in relation of Tree structure. For a processor job set this paper finds out a job scheduling algorithm that has the less loose time between period than that of FCFS.

  • Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) film has recently attracted much attention as a key material for the fabrication of various nanostructures. A control of anodizing voltage (U) was employed to render different anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) nanostructures with pore diameter ($D_p$) and interpore distance ($D_{int}$) in oxalic acid. In this work, we study the effect of stepwise modulation of anodizing voltages on the shape and dimension of porous structures along the vertical direction and demonstrate the fabrication of hierarchical layers of systematically controlled three-dimensional (3D) pore profile.
