  • Any future heterogeneous overlay network system must be able to support ubiquitous access across multiple wireless networks. To coordinate these diverse network environments, one challenging task is a call admission decision among different types of network. In this paper, we propose a new call admission control scheme to provide quality of service (QoS) while ensuring system efficiency. Based on the interplay between network structure and dynamics, we estimate the network's QoS level and adjust the service price adaptively with the aim of maximizing the network performance. A simulation shows that the proposed scheme can approximate an optimized solution while ensuring a well-balanced network performance in widely different network environments.

  • In this paper, we tried to investigate whether the influence of 'I' in a heterogeneous network of physical network and virtual network can be quantitatively measurable. To do this, we used Networked Community(NC) methodology to devise a concrete model of influence assessment in heterogeneous network. In order to test the model, we conducted an experiment with Donald J. Trump and his surroundings to evaluate the effectiveness of this influence assessment model. Experimentation included the measurement of impacts on the physical and virtual networks, and the impact on the networked community. Using Trump's case, we found that analyzing only one of the two networks can not accurately analyze the impact on others.

  • Optimal scheduling of parallel tasks with some precedence relationship, onto a parallel machine is known to be NP-complete. The complexity of the problem increases when task scheduling is to be done in a heterogeneous environment, where the processors in the network may not be identical and take different amounts of time to execute the same task. This paper introduces a Duplication based Task Scheduling with Communication Cost in Heterogeneous Systems (DTSC), which provides optimal results for applications represented by Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs), provided a simple set of conditions on task computation and network communication time could be satisfied. Results from an extensive simulation show significant performance improvement from the proposed techniques over the Task duplication-based scheduling Algorithm for Network of Heterogeneous systems(TANH) and General Dynamic Level(GDL) scheduling algorithm.

  • Power-efficient base station (BS) operation is one of the important issues in future green cellular networks. Previously well-known BS operation schemes, the cell zooming scheme and the cell wilting and blossoming scheme, require tight cooperation between cells in cellular networks. With the previous schemes, the non-cooperative BSs of a serving cell and neighboring cells could cause coverage holes between the cells, thereby seriously degrading the quality of service as well as the power saving efficiency of the cellular networks. In this paper, we propose a novel power-efficient BS operation scheme for green downlink heterogeneous cellular networks, in which the networks virtually adjust the coverage of a serving macrocell (SM) and neighboring macrocells (NMs) without adjusting the transmission power of the BSs when the SM is lightly loaded, and the networks turn off the BS of the SM when none of active users are associated with the SM. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme significantly improves the power saving efficiency without degrading the quality of service (e.g., system throughput) of a downlink heterogeneous LTE network and outperforms the previous schemes in terms of system throughput and power saving efficiency. In particular, with the proposed scheme, macrocells are able to operate independently without the cooperation of a SM and NMs for green heterogeneous cellular networks.

  • Nowadays, energy saving has become a hot topic and information and communication technology has become a major power consumer. In long term evolution advanced (LTE-A) networks, heterogeneous deployments of low-power nodes and conventional macrocells provide some new features, such as coverage extension, throughput enhancement, and load balancing. However, a large-scale deployment of low-power nodes brings substantial energy consumption and interference problems. In this paper, we propose a novel switching strategy (NS), which adaptively switches on or off some low-power nodes based on the instantaneous load of the system. It is compatible with the microcells' load balancing feature and can be easily implemented on the basis of existing LTE-A specifications. Moreover, we develop an analytical model for analyzing the performance of system energy consumption, block rate, throughput, and energy efficiency. The performance of NS is evaluated by comparison with existing strategies. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that NS not only has a low block rate, but also achieves a high energy efficiency.

  • 3GPP($3^{rd}$ Generation Partnership project)는 3세대 이동통신인 UMTS(Universal Mobile Telecommunication System)의 초기 표준화 이후 HSPA(High Speed Packet Access), MBMS(Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) 등의 기술 개발로 UMTS시스템을 지속적으로 발전시켜 왔다. 그리고, 최근 새로운 무선 접속 기술을 기반한 LTE(Long Term Evolution)시스템에 대한 표준화를 완료하고 ITU-T(International Telecommnunications Union-Radio)의 IMT-Advanced 요구사항을 만족하는 LTE-Advanced 시스템에 대한 연구를 진행하고 있다.

  • Quick, accurate damage monitoring is strongly required for damage assessment in the aftermath of a large natural disaster. Wireless sensor networks are promising technologies to acquire damage information in a citywide area. The wireless sensor networks, however, would be faced with difficulty to collect data in real-time and to expand the scalability of the networks. This paper discusses a scheme of network architecture to cove a whole city in multi-tier heterogeneous networks, which consist of wireless sensor networks, access networks and a backbone network. We first review previous studies for citywide damage monitoring, and then discuss the feature of multi-tier heterogeneous networks to cover a citywide area.

  • Since various type of wireless/mobile network likes WLAN, WIBRO, HSDPA were come to us, technology providing high quality multimedia service while user move are actively researched such as MIH (Media Independent Handover) proposed by IEEE for interworking between heterogeneous network and CMIP (Client Mobile IP), PMIP (Proxy Mobile IP) for mobility. Despite the technology about interworking and handover between heterogeneous network are actively researched, handover decision method need to be researched. In this paper we suggest a simple and effective handover method for high quality multimedia service in real wireless environment. For this, we use MIH+CMIP platform for target multimedia service to make handover decision rule in WIBRO and HSDPA networks. After apply this rule, we verified effectiveness of handover decision method through real test.

  • Recently, heterogeneous mobile communication network is attracting plenty of interest to serve explosively increasing mobile data traffic. Although the heterogeneous mobile communication network can enhance spatial reuse ratio by using both conventional macro cells and small cells simultaneously, it causes the unbalance in performance of downlink and uplink. In this paper, we propose a new cell selection scheme for heterogeneous mobile communication network. In the proposed cell selection scheme, mobiles select their home cells by considering both uplink and downlink performance, contrary to conventional schemes. We analyze the performance of the proposed scheme in terms of average cell transmission rate through system level simulations and compare it with those of conventional schemes.
