  • The purpose of this thesis is to dedicate to get the objectivity of herbal medicine treatments by choosing herbs likely to work as antibacterial agents, Moutan Cortex Radicis, Caesalpiniae Lignum, Houttuyniae Herba, Forsythiae Fructus, Prunellae Herba, Scrophulariae Radix against Gardnerella vaginalis which is associated with Bacterial vaginosis, making experiments on them and getting the significant results. Each herb's efficacy on control the number of Bacterial vaginosis is noticed by using Disk Susceptibility test with six herbs medicine and Broth dilution assay of the culture. Disk Suseptibility Test : The efficiency strength is as follows in a row : Caesaipiniae Lignum, Moutan Cortex Radicis, Prunellae Herba, Forsythiae Fructus, Houttuyniae Herba, Scrophulariae Radix. MIC Prunellae Herba is 1.5 mg/ml, Caesalpiniae Lignum is 5 mg/ml, Forsythiae Fructus and Moutan Corex Radicis is 10mg/ml for G. vaginalis. As a results, herbmed which tested in this study have an antibacterial effects against G. vaginalis and that may be used for treament of Bacterial vaginosis. Assistant use of external medicine to p.o medicine is expected to bring the good effect of treatment which is used for the origin of this disease.

  • Objectives This study was conducted in order to analyze the distribution of Sasang constitution, herbmed, exterior-interior disease and concomitant symptoms of 36 facial nerve paralysis patients. Methods A clinical study was done on 36 patients, treated as facial nerve paralysis. Sasang constitution specialist diagnosed their constitution and gave prescription. Degree of improvement was evaluated by assessment scale or change of patient's complaint. Results 1) Distribution of sasang constituion : Taeeumin 21 patients, Soyangin 8 patients, Soeumin 7 patients. 2) Distribution of exterior-interior disease : Taeeumin and Soeumin were diagnosed as interior disease more than exterior disease, Soyangin was reverse. 3) Hyeongbangdojeok-san and Hyeongbangjihwang-tang (Soyangin), Galgeunhaegi-tang(Taeeumin) and Gwakhyangjeonggi-san(Soeumin) were used the most in each sasang constitution. 4) Seventeen patients had concomitant symptoms : digestive disorder, sleep disorder, tinnitus, hypertension, diplopia, itching, gout, neck-shoulder pain, constipation and dizziness. Conclusions Patients had different Sasang constitution and in the same Sasang constitution, they had different symptomatology.

  • Purpose: These studies were undertaken to evaluate the anti-oxidative and neuroprotective effects of Gamisoyo-san(GMSYS). Materials and Methods: We studied the antioxidant effects of GMSYS by assessing the DPPH free radical and the ABTS radical cation inhibition activities, the total polyphenolic contents(TPC). To evaluate the effects of GMSYS in the human neuroblastoma cells, we measured the cell viabilities in SH-SY5Y cells treated with GMSYS. Then we observed the protective effects of GMSYS against 6-OHDA induced neurotoxicity in SH-SY5Y cells. To confirm the neuroprotective effects of GMSYS in the primary culture of mesencephalic dopaminergic cells, we counted the TH-immunopositive cells and measured the NO and TNF-$\alpha$ after the treatment of GMSYS and 6-OHDA. Results: The DPPH free radical and the ABTS radical cation inhibition activities were increased in a dose dependent manner and the IC50 were $133.60{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ and $106.20{\mu}g/m{\ell}$, respectively. The TPC was 0.78%. There were no differences between the various concentrations of GMSYS and the control in the cell viability of SH-SY5Y cells. The neuroprotective effects of GMSYS were shown in the co-treatment group at the low concentrations of $25{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ and the post-treatment group at all concentrations. After the treatment of GMSYS and 6-OHDA in the primary culture of dopaminergic cells, the TH-immunopositive cells were significantly increased in $0.2{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ of GMSYS than the 6-OHDA group. The NO and TNF-$\alpha$ were significantly decreased in $0.2{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ of GMSYS than the 6-OHDA group. Conclusions: This study shows that GMSYS has the antioxidant and neuroprotective effects, especially in the mesencephalic dopaminergic cells. We suggest that GMSYS could be useful for the treatment of postmenopausal depression related with the degeneration of dopamine neuron.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the current characteristics and prescriptions of outpatients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Methods: We searched medical records from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017 and found out 31 patients who first visited with PCOS. Results: The average age of PCOS patients was $26.48{\pm}5.15years$ old, average height was $162.16{\pm}5.56cm$, average weight was $55.27{\pm}9.34kg$, and average BMI was $21.01{\pm}3.48kg/m^2$ A total of 24 patients who had received western treatment for PCOS in the past, 13 people received oral contraceptions, 4 hormones, 2 metformin, one hormone and metformin, also 4 people were treated for assisted reproductive technologies due to infertility. There were only two patients who combined Korean and Western treatments. The most common menstrual-related symptoms of PCOS patients were oligomenorrhea (48.4%) and dysmenorrhea (22.6%). Other symptoms were the highest in the cold symptoms (54.8%), followed by infertility (9.7%). The average number of patients visiting the hospital was $6.26{\pm}7.2$, with 22 (71.0%) coming from 1 to 5. The average treatment period for patients was $10.1{\pm}10.8weeks$, with 41.9% the largest for 1 to 4 weeks. Acupuncture (93.5%), moxibustion (96.8%) herbmed (96.8%) was treated to most PCOS patients. The most commonly used herbal medicines were Ongyeong-tang (35.5%), Ijin-tang-gami (19.4%), Dodam-tang-gami (12.9%), and Jogyeongjongok-tang-gami (12.9%). Conclusions: These results could be helpful to treat PCOS patients in Korean gynecologic clinical fields.
