Objectives The purpose of this study was to report the effects of Korean medical treatment (acupuncture, moxibustion, herb medicine) combined with intense pulsed light (IPL) on three postpartum patients with freckles worsened during pregnancy. Methods and Results The postpartum patients with freckles were treated with acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medication and IPL. The energy density of IPL was selected modified according to skin types classified by Sasang constitutional medicine. This efficacy of treatment was evaluated with observation. After treatment, freckles as well as various postpartum symptoms are improved. Conclusions This case report shows that the Korean medical treatment combined with IPL is effective in the treatment of postpartum patient's freckles. However further studies are still necessary.

Objectives : This case series aims to report the efficacy of using oriental medical treatment with Melonis Calyx Vomiting Therapy for Hwa-Byung. Methods : Patients were diagnosed with Hwa-Byung through Hwa-Byung Diagnostic interview schedule (HBDIS). They were treated with Oriental medical treatment (Acupncture, Herb-medication) and Melonis Calyx Vomiting Therapy (MCVT). MCVT is a traditional treatment, which induces vomiting by eating Melonis Calyx powder with water. We used VAS score and Scott scale for the symptoms of patients and IOMEHB (instrument of oriental medical evaluation for Hwa-Byung), BDI, STAI for the psychological conditions of the patients. Results : After treatment, the chief complaint and other symptoms of Hwa-Byung have improved. The scores of IOMEHB, BDI, and STAI have decreased. Conclusions : This result suggests that using MCVT with Oriental medical treatment have a positive efficacy for Hwa-Byung.

Objectives: Adenomyosis is the disease caused by ingrowth of lining tissue into the uterine muscle. Final treatment of the disease is hysterectomy. But if a patient want to get pregnant, there is a tendency to avoid surgical treatment. This paper introduces the potential of oriental medical treatment for infertility caused by adenomyosis through a case study. Methods: A 34-year-old female patient, who wants to get pregnant, was diagnosed with adenomyosis. She wants to take oriental medical treatment in the ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ Oriental Hospital. We applied herb-medication, acupuncture and moxibustion. Results: Overall condition including the symptoms was relieved and succeeded in pregnancy after oriental medical treatment. Conclusions: Oriental medical treatment has an effect infertility caused by adenomyosis.

Introduction: SLE is autoimmune disease to appear systemic pathology in the connective tissue. Perniotic LE is sub-type of chronic dermal LE which causes purple macules on the terminal part of body-nose, ends of fingers, heals, calfs of the legs, elbows and knees. Objective: The purpose of this study was to estimate the efficiency of oriental medical treatment and management on the SLE and perniotic LE. Subject: We studied 2 patients who visited and hospitalized in Daejon University Oriental Hospital Dept. of Dermatology, with SLE and pemiotic LE from April 2002 till May 2002 Method: We treated them with herb medication, acupuncture and in addition to we consulted western medication if they were needed Results: In case of SLE patient, we considered it to be Yeol-Dok-Chi-Seong, so we priscriped Ga-Mi-So-Dok-Eum1, 2 , Yang-Dok-Baek-ho-Tang first. and till 22 days of hospitalization, we considered to be Gi-Eum-Yang-Heo and priscriped Ji-Hwang-Tang-Hab-Cheong-Sim-Yeon- Ja -Eum-Ga-Mi. but it wasn't adjust and high fever was reaccurred. And till 24 days of hospitalization we priscriped Gal-Geon-Hae-Gi-Tang, and becomed to 25 days, high fever was disappeared and the patient discharged and she has remained generally good condition. In case of Perniotic LE, at first we misdiagnosed her disease as a acral lentiginous melanoma, and we considered it to be Gan-Soo-Yeol-Li-Yeol- Jeung and priscriped Cheong-Pae-Sa-Gan-Tang and transferred her to another hospital, but she was diagnosed Perniotic LE Conclusion: Considering the above results, in case of SLE, in acute phase, we could treat her with oriental-western treatment, and in relief phase, we could treat her with only oriental treatment very efficiently. but in case of perniotic LE, we misdiagnosed it as a acral lentiginous melanoma, but we could experienced very rare perniotic LE case. And also further study is needed on the SLE, and perniotic LE, and we have to systematize of dyagnosis and treatment system.

Metabolic syndrome consists of several risk factors of metabolic origin like elevated blood pressure, abdominal obesity, elevated triglyceride concentrations, decreased HDL-cholesterol concentrations, and elevated fasting glucose. It appear to directly increase the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases which leading to cardiovascular diseases in later life. This 39 years female patient was diagnosed schizophrenia at the age of 17. but she didn't take reasonable treatments. during 20 years, she stayed in home and lived unsuited life with her family. As a result she gains heavy weight and centeral obesity, diabetic mellitus and hypertention, and developed cerevral vascular accident twice. This patient was treated with herb medication, acupuncture, western medication, psychotherapy primarily in focusing of pre-illness state(未病) as well as the stagnation of phelm. During 140 days of treatment from admission, before 2nd attack tbe patient showed improvement of Lt. hemiparesis but after second attack improved a little. And symptom of schizophrenia improved considerably. Also diet habit changed.

Objectives : This study was designed to collect the latest papers and to find more effective approach for childhood obesity. Methods : We searched 107 papers in English from Pubmed(www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) and selected 52 in favor of our study. In addition to that, we searched 29 papers in Chinese from www.cnki.net. Results are as follows. Results and Conclusions : There are not completely new treatments for childhood obesity. Instead of that, many studies aimed for prevention through family education, nutrition education, and exercises education. Specially, because some diseases including hypertension, diabetes and heart disease are connected with obese children, medication can be prescribed optionally. In that case, their mental health must be laid emphasis. And in China, TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine) is very common treatment for childhood obesity. Acupuncture, herb medication and manual therapy could be used usefully. It is suggested that above latest treatments can be combined with Korean traditional treatments method in treating obese children.

Objectives : This study planed to evaluate effect of oriental medicine therapy treatment method of dyspnea that happen from cancer of the pancreas patient who accompany Multiple metasis Methods : Patient complained dyspnoea during admission into dept. Of internal medicine, college of oriental medicine, Dong-eui Univ, was appealed patient treated by Oriental medicine therapy that is of use Herb Medication and Herbal -acupuncture Treatment being diagnosed in lung asthenia including deficiency of Eum and insufficiency of Gi of the lung(肺虛), the fire due to deficiency(虛火), and loving warfare of symptoms evaluated through VAS (visual analog scales). Results & Conclusion : Patient's difficulty in breathing symptoms took a favorable turn after treatment. This study means that Oriental medicine therapy that is difficulty in breathing symptoms that happen from patient surely has effectiveness.

Objective: There were few reports on the treatment of Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. We treated a hypoxic ischemic encephalopathic patient after accident with Oriental medical approach, and get a significant result. this treatment shows the possibility of healing Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, So we are reporting that case. Method : The acupuncture, herb medication. rehabilitation therapy was applied for treting patient's chife symptom(involuntary movement, dystonia, aphasia, dysuria, constipation) Results : 1. Generally patients with Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy show language impairment and cognition disorder for several weeks to months. After coma stage, first they recover consciousness but have various degree of confusional mentality, visual agnosia, extrapyramidal stiffness and motor disturbance. 2. Consciousness loss in acute stage of Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy can be considered as Mental Confusion due to Phlegm(Dammisimgyu) in veiw point of Oriental medicine. 3. After oriental medical treatment, patient's chief symptoms were improved. Conclusion: We treated a hypoxic ischemic encephalopathic patient with Oriental medical approach and patient's chief symptoms were improved. this treatment shows the possibility of healing Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.

Inflammatory conditions of the breast are uncommon and may be encountered in the puerperal and nonpuerperal setting. Nonpuerperal mastitis is less common and usually presents with inflammation and chronic abscess formation in the periareolar and peripheral region. These abscess have a high rate of recurrence and are often associated with an underlying disease state, such as diabetes, steroid treatment, trauma or other kinds of a deficient immune system. The diagnosis is suggested by the history of sudden onset and the presense of swelling, tenderness, heat, erythema, and in the case of abscess, fluctuation. Ultrasound can also be useful. Treatment consists of antibiotic administration or incision and drainage of the abscess and, in cases of retroareolar abscess, resection of entire underlying duct system. Recently, we have gotten good result from treating two cases of nonpuerperal mastitis and breast abscess which had treatment of antibiotics and drainage three times but recurred. After taking gamijipaesan(加味芷貝散) and acupuncture treatment, they have recovered and haven't recurred in 8 months. So it proves that herb medication and acupuncture are effective on nonpuerperal chronic mastitis and breast abscess.

Purpose: Recently people who want to treatment of cervical dysplasia by Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) were increased. The purpose of these studies are to confirm the clinical effectiveness of TKM treatment to clinical symptoms of the patients who diagnosed as cervical dysplasia. Methods: The patients who diagnosed as cervical dysplasia, had elytrorrhagia, leukorrhea, dysmenorrhea et al. The patients were treated by TKM such as herb medication and acupuncture therapy. Results: After the oriental medical treatment. the clinical symptoms such as elytrorrhagia, leukorrhea, dysmenorrhea were improved. Conclusion: To treatment and management of cervical dysplasia, we were based on improvement of clinical symptoms. And we used TKM to the clinical symptoms of patients with cervical dysplasia, in result clinical symptoms of cervical dysplasia were improved. TKM is expected to have positive effects on clinical symptoms of cervical dysplasia.
