  • It has been applied using cranes or insertion methods to install heavy structures to strengthen existing railway bridges. These methods are uneconomical because of two reasons. The first one is it is required to construct approach roads for heavy equipment and/or working yard. The second one is the electric lines shall be cutoff during construction. Both require additional construction cost and duration. In this study, new transport equipment was developed which can be applied to heavy structures up to 100 ton. Using this method, the heavy structure can be loaded into the new transport equipment at working yard and transported to the working site. This method can be applied, but not limited to railway bridge or roadbed rehabilitation. It was found that the precious construction can be achieved to install heavy structure using this method. The experimental construction to make non-ballast girder bridge composite with new pc deck slab using this method was carried out for Jewon bridge. The example bridge is in extreme condition because it locates above national road #38 within extreme transition curve and has 10 ‰ slope and skew. The experimental construction results were satisfactory both for safety and construction precision.

  • A degasser is a separation unit used in drilling to separate gas from the drilling mud. The degasser used in offshore drilling was developed at an early stage of drilling. Since its development, the design of the degasser’s internal structure has been optimized, with many limitations due to the restrictions of experimental and computational performance measurement methods. Despite the recent development of CFD technology for multiphase flow analysis, CFD has only been used in a limited way for degasser internal flow analysis and design optimization. In this study, a design optimization procedure for a degasser’s internal structure design was proposed, and CFD analyses of three types of internal structural designs were performed to evaluate the separation performance. The CFD result for each design type was used for the design optimization and, as the result, an optimized design is proposed.

  • This paper presents fatigue analysis of helideck structures located in FPSO. After FPSO is moved to the target position where production of resource is performed, FPSO stays at the target position and performs production of resource, storage and off-loading during the design life. Helideck structure is located in FPSO essentially for the movement of personnel and life rescue at emergency situations by using helicopters. Because inertial load induced by FPSO motion and landing and taking-off load of helicopter occur at helideck structures cyclically, helideck structures should be designed to withstand fatigue loads. Therefore, The fatigue assessment of helideck structures should be performed with fatigue loads. Effect of stress concentration due to misalignment between welded plates is considered in fatigue assessment additionally.

  • Until now, we are designing the breakwater of container vessel as cantilever structure ypically. Recently, we have designed "side shell touch type breakwater" for the first time to 6,200TEU Class Container Carrier registered on Lloyd Classification. The Lloyd Rule does not provide requirements for breakwater scantling but only recommend breakwater wave load and Lloyd Class requests for submitting the calculation results. At early design step, we had reviewed the breakwater structure through the calculation of simple beam theory with wave load recommended by Lloyd and referring to already built same size of container vessel. At the same time we had carried out F.E.M analysis of breakwater structure and had updated design, so we could verify the strength of side shell touch type breakwater at final step.

  • Fire resistance of new hybrid timber framed wall systems was evaluated in this study. These wall systems are composed of two major structural parts. One part is a heavy timber frame part designed to take charge of whole vertical load using heavy timber post and beam, and the other is an infill wall structure, designed to take charge of whole horizontal load and to provide an established level of fire resistance. A basic concept of this hybrid wall is adopted from a typical furniture structure with frame. A timber post and beam frame is constructed with Japanese Larch solid timber post(180mm by 180mm) and beam(180mm by 240mm). As infill wall systems, two types of walls are applied. One is a typical light timber framed wall with solid blocking and another is a structural insulated panel wall, in which polystyrene insulation is filled between two structural panels to make single structure. For all tested walls, two layers of 12.5mm thick type-X gypsum boards are used on fire exposed side. Prior to tests for hybrid walls, only infill walls are tested without heavy timber frame. All fire resistance tests are carried out in accordance with KS F 2257, and temperatures on several points within wall structure and unexposed wall surface are measured during fire tests. It is considered that the reinforcement of heavy timber frame is significantly efficient for improving the fire resistance of timber framed walls.

  • District of Korea affected by westerly wind and heavy rainfall is predominantly distributed in the west and south of Honam district. So, this study is becoming a necessity. In this study, it is investigated that the characteristics of heavy rainfall occurred frequently in Honam district along the border of mT airmass after the end of rainy season due to atmospheric instability, lower (850 hPa) convergence and topographic effect. Our results show that heavy rainfall occurred in Honam district along the border of mT airmass results from the appropriate mechanism of the unstable vertical structure and moisture flux in the expansion and contraction of the border of mT airmass. All things considered, the improvement of the predictability of heavy rainfall occurred in Honam district along the border of mT airmass could be possible by the generalization of the results of this study.

  • To investigate the heavy-weight impact noise of apartment houses, numerical analysis was performed. The analysis acoustic pressure consider acoustic mode by finite element method. The variables considered effecting on the acoustic pressure are the Acoustic mode, acoustic damping, and the impulse load. The heavy-weight impact noise is a changeable value in the room. Since the most part of the frequency component of heavy-weight impact noise has low frequency. The noise in low frequency is related to the vibration of structure, the reflection of acoustic wave caused by wall and the standing wave called by acoustic mode. The prediction by the numerical analysis was verified with test result of the heavy weight-impact noise at apartment houses.

  • The 1st assessment (performance test) was applied to assure the floor impact sound performance for developing the dry double- floor with the change of rubber hardness of the upper panel's support and the ceiling structure of the sub-floor. Depends on the change of the rubber hardness in substructure, the heavy-weight sound impact value is improved up to 3 dB, and the light-weight sound impact value is moved up to 21 dB, comparing with the bare-slab. Also, the improved value for the floor impact sound conjugating with the sub-floor's ceiling was 5dB. Based on this result, the 2nd assessment (performance test) was made the state that the rubber hardness of the sub-floor support was ranged between 50 and 70 for considering the stability of walking patients. In addition to this process, the assessment was carried out with a variety of ceiling structure applied to the dry doublefloor structure with the air flow system on the sub-floor's ceiling. The result for the 2nd assessment proved that TYPE-11 had the better sound reduction performance in the heavy-weight impact sound test than other types, and also for the light-weight impact sound TYPE-11 had the 29 dB sound reduction performance overall. Henceforth, based on the result the research for the sound reduction performance from the floor impact sound shall be ongoing process as well as the development of a double-dry floor and a sound reduction ceiling to suitable on the field.

  • The heavy-weight floor impact sound field of the receiving room in a testing building with bearing wall structure was investigated using bang machine and impact ball. The sound field was investigated through the impact sound pressure level distribution by the field measurement and computational analysis. Predicted sound field using the computational analysis agree with measurement result in the low frequency band. Result shows that standard deviations of the single number rating value are about 2dB in each impact source. Particularly, impact sound pressure level at 120cm height in 63Hz octave band was 5dB lower than spatial averaging value. It was found that receiving positions in the ministry of construction and transportation notice should be reconsidered.

  • Damping materials for reducing heavy-weight floor impact noise in reinforced concrete structures were tested in apartment buildings. The effect of damping materials and an impact isolator were compared with an on-site experiment conducted in a high-rise apartment building. The loss factor of damping material analyzed more than 2 times than rubber to $1.5{\sim}2.3$, could know that Damping layer has excellent attenuation performance in side of vibration reduction. The results showed that the resonance frequency increased but vibration acceleration level decreased when the damping materials were used. The heavy-weight impact sound levels of the structure decreased substantially at 63 Hz, whereas the sound levels of the structure with the impact isolator increased.
