  • An instrumented pod has been developed to measure the aeroacoustic environment as well as the conventional data such as load, vibration, and aerodynamic heating of fighters during flight tests, confirming to the recently developed external pod design for fighters. This study presents the development of the measurement system in detail, being the first indigenous effort in its kind. The pod was designed to meet the requirements of the MIL-HDBK-1763 and MIL-STD-810 Method 515, which are the base to determine the locations and range of sensors. The Endevco 8510B-2 was selected as the sensor to withstand the harsh environment during the flight tests. In order to assess the integrity of the fabricated pod design, a ground run-up test of a KF-16 has been conducted with the pod installed at Station 5. The test results show that the system works well but the sound level exceeds the predetermined sensor range. The sensor range has been readjusted for flight test performed later.

  • In hypersonic regime, the complicated interaction between the air and surface of aircraft results in intensive aerodynamic heating on body. Provided this phenomenon occurs on a hypersonic vehicle, the temperature of the body extremely increases. And consequently, thermal deformation is produced and material properties are degraded. Furthermore, those affect both the aerothermoelastic stability and thermal safety of structures significantly. With the background, thermal safety and dynamic stability are studied according to the altitude, flight time and Mach number. Based on the investigation, design guideline is suggested to guarantees the structural integrity of hypersonic vehicles in terms of both of thermal safety and dynamic stability.

  • With the enforcement of the infrastructure management act, the importance of utility tunnels that jointly accommodate life-lines such as electricity, communication, water supply, and heating facilities has increased. The currently applied utility tunnel maintenance system is managed in an accident-preventive safety-based evaluation method. However, this evaluation method has limitations in effective maintenance. In this study, performance evaluation items were derived through the Delphi method to suggest a criterion for quantitatively evaluating the performance of utility tunnels, and the weights for each item were calculated through the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. In the future, it is judged that a more reasonable performance evaluation standard of utility tunnel can be prepared if modifications and supplements are made through field application.

  • During supersonic flight of vehicles, the thermal behavior of structures under high-temperature environment is important for thermal-structural design. In this study, full-field thermal deformation and stress concentration of the notched structure was performed using global-local multi-digital image correlation (multi-DIC) systems. This techniques were developed and implemented by multi-DIC systems consists of 2D DIC system and 3D DIC system. The specimen was heated in a heating chamber to achieve the thermal expansion behavior. Then the images of structure's deformation and stress concentration at various temperature were recorded and analyzed by multi-DIC system. Afterward, full-field thermal deformation of the notched structure was determined with DIC technique and stress concentration at the notched structure was calculated by further processing. Finite element analysis of the notched structure is performed in ABAQUSTM and the results of the experiments show good agreement with those obtained from simulation. The results achieved in this study show the efficiency of the muilti-DIC method in thermal deformation as well as stress concentration of notched structure.

  • The off-axis Infra-Red(IR) seeker is mounted on the nose cone side of the anti-air high speed missile to alleviate thermal shield effect due to aerodynamic heating. The seeker output can not be regarded as the Line-of-Sight(LOS) rate any more as missile's roll motion to keep the target tracking is associated. In this paper, we propose a method to calculate the LOS rate for off-axis seeker on a 2-axis gimbal. Firstly, true LOS rate equations are analytically derived but not implementable because boresight error rate is not measurable. And then the first order lag approximation to obtain boresight error rate is proposed. The proposed LOS rate calculation method can compensate the coupling effect by considering the rotations of missile and gimbal. The performance of the proposed method is verified via full nonlinear 6-DOF(Degree of Freedom) simulations.

  • Passive autocatalytic recombiner (PAR) is considered as an explosive gas control system in operating NPP plants. This work investigates and evaluates hydrogen recombination performance over manufactured $Pt/TiO_2$ catalysts. When the space velocity increases, the hydrogen conversion decreased, while hydrogen depletion rate (g/sec) increases highly in $35000{\sim}100000hr^{-1}$ Gas Hourly Space Velocity (GHSV). Hydrogen conversion and depletion rate with Pt loading is investigated. As a result, there were no differences in the hydrogen conversion, but exothermic heating rate (K/sec) is increases as Pt loading increases. The catalyst showes a high hydrogen conversion efficiency of 80% under atmospheric conditions.

  • This paper aims to approach a spatial furniture for sedentary lifestyle which been has derived and evolved from Korea's traditional 'Ondol' heating system. In this living culture, people has been staid on the floor where people would sit directly on without furniture such as chair and bed. With every changing technological advances, sedentary life culture is transformed and mixed instead of sedentary habit. Most of people lived in western house such as apartment forms. As time go by, western furnitures were used became widespread. However, during the process, it impossible to acclimate ourselves to the new lifestyle such as chair, bed etc. This leads to users feeling uncomfortable on certain points. The researcher suggests a spatial furniture through a new approach to rest-taking that also intersects the cultures of East and West while resolving the a fore-mentioned issues. The study is conducted as follows. Firstly, issues are discovered through a user's lifestyle to exist usage and interplay of house and furniture. Furthermore, the issues was not a fragmentary thing but more related to a culture and a coustom of long standing. Secondly, a design experiment is conducted to conclude a new form and function that is better fit for the Korean culture where sitting on the floor is the norm. New direction for space that intersects the cultures of the East and West while using modules made convenient for contemporary life is presented. Finally, this study is meaningful in that it reinterprets furniture used for rest within the context of sedentary culture, in order to propose a new direction and value for design that overcomes the boundaries between eastern and western applied to resting space.

  • We demonstrated an inspection system for detecting discoloration of PCB Cu ball pad with an OSP surface finish. Though the OSP surface finish has many advantages such as eco-friendly and low cost, however, it often shows a discoloration phenomenon due to a heating process. In this study, the discoloration was analyzed with device-independent CIELAB color space. First of all, the PCB samples were inspected with standard lamps and CCD camera. The measured data was processed with Labview program for detecting discoloration of Cu ball pad. From the original PCB sample image, the localized Cu ball pad image was selected to reduce the image size by the binarization and edge detection processes and it was also converted to device-independent CIELAB color space using $3{\times}3$ conversion matrix. Both acquisition time and false acceptance rate were significantly reduced with this proposed inspection system. In addition, $L^*$ and $b^*$ values of CIELAB color space were suitable for inspection of discoloration of Cu ball pad.

  • We observed 80 dense cores ($N(H_2)$ > $10^{22}cm^{-2}$) in the Orion molecular cloud complex which contains the Orion A (39 cores), B (26 cores), and ${\lambda}$ Orionis (15 cores) clouds. We investigate the behavior of the different molecular tracers and look for chemical variations of cores in the three clouds in order to systematically investigate the effects of stellar feedback. The most commonly detected molecular lines (with the detection rates higher than 50%) are $N_2H^+$, $HCO^+$, $H^{13}CO^+$, $C_2H$, HCN, and $H_2CO$. The detection rates of dense gas tracers, $N_2H^+$, $HCO^+$, $H^{13}CO^+$, and $C_2H$ show the lowest values in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud. We find differences in the D/H ratio of $H_2CO$ and the $N_2H^+/HCO^+$ abundance ratios among the three clouds. Eight starless cores in the Orion A and B clouds exhibit high deuterium fractionations, larger than 0.10, while in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud, no cores reveal the high ratio. These chemical properties could support that cores in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud are affected by the photo-dissociation and external heating from the nearby H II region. An unexpected trend was found in the $[N_2H^+]/[HCO^+]$ ratio with a higher median value in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud than in the Orion A/B clouds than; typically, the $[N_2H^+]/[HCO^+]$ ratio is lower in higher temperatures and lower column densities. This could be explained by a longer timescale in the prestellar stage in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud, resulting in more abundant nitrogen-bearing molecules. In addition to these chemical differences, the kinematical difference was also found among the three clouds; the blue excess, which is an infall signature found in optically thick line profiles, is 0 in the ${\lambda}$ Orionis cloud while it is 0.11 and 0.16 in the Orion A and B clouds, respectively. This result could be another evidence of the negative feedback of active current star formation to the next generation of star formation.

  • The electricity conversion-efficiency of solar cell for commercial application is about 6-15%. More than 85% of the incoming solar energy is either reflected or absorbed as heat energy. Consequently, the working temperature of the photovoltaic cells increases considerably after prolonged operations and the cell's efficiency drops significantly. PV/T refers to the integration of a PV module and a solar thermal collector in a single piece of equipment. By cooling the PV module with a fluid steam like air or water, the electricity yield can be improved. At the same time, the heat pick-up by the fluid can be to support space heating or service hot-water systems. In this study, a pulsating heat pipe solar heat collector was combined with single-crystal silicon photovoltaic cell in hybrid energy-generating unit that simultaneously produced low temperature heat and heat and electricity. This experiment was investigating thermal and electrical efficiency for evaluation of a PV/T system.
