  • Along with the legalization of balcony extension, numerous contractors have been suggesting designs for apartment houses based on the residents desire for balcony extension. It has been investigated that most residents prefer the balcony extension due to the increase in space. However, numerous residents have been experiencing problems occurred due to the extension such as air conditioning and heating cost and sound insulation problems. Therefore, this study aims to suggest an objective decision making tool for the residents that aids the residents decision making on balcony extension considering pros and cons of balcony extension.

  • In a heat only boiler system of a steam power plant, outdoor air required for combustion is made to pass through indoor space for increasing the boiler efficiency. Due to heat generated by various equipments, temperature of the air that enters the boiler will increase resulting in combustion efficiency. If the outdoor air temperature is low, however, this will cause freezing and bursting of pipes which are filled with water. It is especially fatal to small diameter pipes and pipes connected to measuring instruments. The purpose of this study is find operation and outdoor conditions where this phenomena can happen and also establish preventive measures to avoid this problem.

  • Critics of height argue that it de-humanizes our cities. Yet a critical mass is a necessity for vibrant city life, and height is a key contributor. If we can overcome the environmental impacts and technicalities of building tall and dense, our cities' streets can thrive and prosper. To make this happen, we must move towards working together to share resources, so we can ensure the continuity of the public realm. We already have the tools to do this; the challenge lies in the coordination of the public and private institutions that govern urban space. District heating and cooling systems; shared logistics spaces; care, responsibility and ownership of the public realm between buildings; seamless connectivity between modes of transport; creative combinations of shelter and seating, and the placement of buildings so that they are not overbearing to the streets around them - these attributes can be found in many places, though rarely all at once. This paper looks at the development of the city and offers Barangaroo South, Sydney, which addresses all these aspects, as a potential template for future city planning.

  • Because the indoors spaces of the passenger cabin is generally airtight to secure the safety of passengers and enhance the efficiency of the cabin air conditioning performances, the contamination pattern of them are largely similar to that of general indoor spaces. Therefore, continuous supply of outdoor air is required to keep the amenity of indoor space. Heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system is composed of air cleaning filter, heater and air conditioned, blower and ducts. To achieve the clean indoor environment, an integrated control of each HVAC equipment are required. In this study, we developed the air cleaning system to enhance the amenity of the railroad passenger cabin.

  • The purpose of this study was to classify the types of housing life style. Housing life style was measured using four variables : furniture usage pattern, space usage pattern, family living pattern and heating system. A final Instrument was developed through the two stage pilot surveys. The respondents were 1,292 home-makers of the middle and high economic classes In Seoul and Daejeon, selected through stratified random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using SAS computer packages. The statistics used were frequency, percentage, Pear-3on`s correlation coefficient, Multiple Linear Regression, X2, and cluster analysis. The major findings were as follows : Five representative types of housing life style were found through cluster analysis. They were conventional minimum level life style, conventional optimum famiIy-centered life style, eclectic family-centered life style, contemporary optimum family - centered and contemporary so-cial, leasure-oriented life style.

  • We observed several young stellar objects (YSOs) using the Photodetector Array Camera and Spectrometer (PACS) aboard the Herschel Space Observatory. CO, OH, $H_2O$, [O I], and [C II] lines were detected. CO rotational diagrams show two distinct gas components of ~400 K and ~1000 K with a break around 1500 K of the CO excitation energy, indicative of two different heating mechanisms: PDR and outflow shocks. OH and $H_2O$ line fluxes can be fitted with temperatures different from what are derived from the CO rotational diagrams. In order to understand the physical environment of line formation, the sources were modeled with the 3-D radiative transfer code, LIME. We present the results of observations, simple analysis, and modeling of Herschel-PACS spectra of the YSOs.

  • In recent, there have been several developments in lamp technology that promise savings in electrical power consumption and improved quality of the lighting space. Above ail, the advantage of ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp is the removal of internal electrodes and heating filaments that are a light-limiting factor of conventional fluorescent lamps. Therefore, the life time of ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamps is substantially higher than that of conventional fluorescent lamps and last up to 60,000 hours and is intended as a high efficacy replacement for the incandescent reflector lamp in many applications. In this paper, when appling the electrodeless lamp in luminaire, We analyzed change of optical and electrical characteristics.

  • Ground heat pump systems utilize the annually stable underground temperature to supply heat for space heating and cooling. The underground temperature affects not only the underground ecosystem, but also the performance of these systems. However, in spite of the widespread use of these systems, there have been few researches on the effect of the systems on underground temperature. In this research, case studies with numerical simulation have been conducted, in order to estimate the effect of ground heat pump systems on underground temperature. The simulation was coupled with the ground water-ground heat transfer model and the ground surface heat transfer model. In the result, it was found that the underground change depends on the heat transfer from the ground surface, the heat exchange rate, and the heat conductivity of soil.

  • PV/Thennal combined system is a solar energy device that uses photovoltaic module as thermal absorption plate, producing thermal energy as well as electricity which can be utilized in buildings. The system removes heat from PV module through air or liquid and its efficiency will vary dependant on the thermal medium. The heat as the forms of hot air or hot water can be utilized for building use, like space heating and hot water. A significant amount of research and development on hybrid PV/thermal(PVT) collectors has been carried out. This study reviews literature on the research of air-based hybrid PVT collectors in terms of their design and energy performance.
