  • This study describes thermal performance of heating and cooling demonstration system using ETSC(Evacuated tubular solar collector) installed at Seo-gu art center of Kwangju. For demonstration study, a reading room with about $331m^2$ was heated and cooled using that system. The demonstration system was consisted of ETSCs, storage tank, hot water supply tank, subsidiary boiler, and subsidiary tank. From January to March in 2006, demonstration test were performed with 4 control mode to find the optimum control condition for solar thermal system. After experiments and analysis, this study found that solar thermal system of control mode IV was corresponded to 78% for the hot water supply and 49% for space heating.

  • Globally there is an increasing need to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and increase the use of renewable sources of energy. The storage of solar thermal energy is a crucial aspect for implementing the solar energy for space heating in high latitudes, where solar insolation is high in summer and almost negligible in winter when the domestic heating demand is high. To use the solar heating during winter thermal energy storage is required. In this paper, equations representing the single U-tube heat exchanger are implemented in weak form edge elements in COMSOL Multiphysics(R) to speed up the calculation process for modelling of a borehole storage layout. Multiple borehole seasonal solar thermal energy storage scenarios are successfully simulated. After 5 years of operation, the most efficient simulated borehole pattern containing 168 borehole heat exchangers recovers 69% of the stored seasonal thermal energy and provides 971 MWh of thermal energy for heating in winter.

  • Radiative heating phenomena occurring in planetary entry flights are reviewed for the purpose of educating those who are not familiar with the problem. How the radiative heat transfer rates to the Apollo entry vehicle were measured and analyzed are first described. Next, the effects of thermo-chemical non-equilibrium on radiation are summarized. Then the radiation problems in entry flights into other planets are reviewed. Finally, unsolved problems are enumerated.

  • We examine the distribution and properties of shock waves within a couple of Mpc from cluster center with single-level grid simulations using up to 20483 grid zones. The effects of cooling/heating and feedbacks from galaxies are also incorporated. There are two different populations of shocks, merger shocks and accretion shocks. We discuss the manifestation of shocks through radio relics.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an underground Building. Population tends to concentrate in large cities. In result, the cities lacks housings. Underground space may be a attractive space by being able to gain alternative energy and get a cheap site, protect environment at the same time. The earth or ground is a useful medium for a long-term heat source and storage of it's heat. Also the underground space has the status of stabilization, the lower heating load and the similar heat transfer coefficient of the inside wall surface comparing to that of residential space. Utilization of underground space has many advantages to cope with lack of building sites and energy conservation, etc. As a result, it is expected to provide a useful information for the practical use of Underground building.

  • The purpose of this research was to grasp the space funtions, the preferred image in bathroom and to find out the plan of bathroom. The subjects of investigation included university students in third decades of which data were obtained by the questionnaire survey method. The major findings were as follows: 1) The space funtions of bathroom were the hygienic activities and the supplementary funtions as resting and health-care. 2) Total and facility image in bathroom take a serious view of a sanitary, a function and following to a mood , a sense of space. 3) The preferred type of bathrooms were identified as the 2-space type. Furthermore, the demands were needed in radiator & pannel heating system, storing furniture and funtional lighting & mirror. According to those results, three types of space plan for bathroom can be suggested and color & forms of design elements can be proposed.

  • Nylon wire cutting method by nichrome wire is generally applicable for cube satellite applications due to its advantages of simplicity. However, the system complexity is not avoidable to apply it on the cube satellite with multi-deployable structures. A lower constraint force of the mechanism is also one of the disadvantages of the mechanism. In this study, we proposed a preliminary structure design of cube satellite with the separation mechanism which is applicable for holding and release of the multi-deployable structures. The effectiveness of the mechanism design was verified through function test of EM mechanism. The structure analysis results showed that the structure design proposed in this study is feasible.
