  • The evolution of temperature and thermal stress in a granite specimen is studied via heating experiment in the context of a high-level radioactive waste repository. A heating condition based on the decay-induced heat is applied to a cubic granite specimen to measure the temperature and stress distributions and their evolution over time. The temperature increases quickly due to heat conduction along the heated surfaces, but a significant amount of thermal energy is also lost through other surfaces due to air convection and conduction into the loading machine. A three-dimensional finite element-based model is used to numerically reproduce the experiment, and the thermo-mechanical coupling behavior and modeling conditions are validated with the comparison to the experimental results. The most crucial factors influencing the heating experiment are analyzed and summarized in this paper for future works.

  • The in-situ heating transmission electron microscopy experiment allows us to observe the time- and temperature-dependent dynamic processes in nanoscale materials by examining the same specimen. The temperature, which is a major experimental parameter, must be measured accurately during in-situ heating experiments. Therefore, calibrating the thermocouple readout of the heating holder prior to the experiment is essential. The calibration can be performed using reference materials whose phase-transformation (melting, oxidation, reduction, etc.) temperatures are well-established. In this study, the calibration experiment was performed with four reference materials, i.e., pure Sn, Al-95 wt%Zn eutectic alloy, NiO/carbon nanotube composite, and pure Al, and the calibration curve and formula were obtained. The thermocouple readout of the holder used in this study provided a reliable temperature value with a relative error of <4%.

  • This paper is a study on the heat generation characteristics of the carbon heating source with high temperature. The main variables of this study are the input current and the amount of carbon heating source. As the results of the experiment in the waste rate of carbon heating source. The case of carbon heating source 300g was large than 500g. As the input current and the temperature are increased, the resistance values of carbon heating source were large. The Joule heat was represented the large value as the amount of heating source decrease with the input current. Finally, the heating source was represented the electrical steady state as the input current is increase.

  • This study used a real-scale model experiment to reproduce internal fires in residential buildings such as a multi-dwelling unit, in order to prevent damage caused by tens of thousands of fires witnessed each year and to take measures to cope with them. For experimental conditions, different opening sizes were applied to measure and analyze the heating temperature of the exterior wall. Results drawn are as following: when the experiment was conducted with opening sizes(horizontal length) each at 2,000mm, 1,600mm, and 1,400mm, the flashover occurred at 630 seconds, 505 seconds and 510 seconds, respectively. Also, the total heating time, in proportion to this, came to 815 seconds, 713 seconds and 721 seconds. The maximum heating temperature of the exterior wall by the opening size reached 282.4℃ at 2,000mm, 382.9℃ at 1,600mm, and 423.8℃ at 1,400mm. This represented that as the opening size gets smaller, the heating temperature of the exterior wall by fire spread becomes higher.

  • The use of wasted concrete can settle the environmental pollution and shortage of natural aggregate. However, recycled aggregate includes substantial amount of cement paste, so that these aggregates are more porous, and less resistant to mechanical actions than natural aggregates. Recently, the new manufacturing processes of high quality recycled aggregates were suggested such as heating. In this paper, for the purpose of manufacture of high quality recycled aggregates, the heating processes was considered to the existing process of recycled aggregates. To find the optimum process, the experiment was performed through the statistical design of experiment. The heating temperatures of 4 levels (300, 450, 600 and $750^{\circ}C$) and heating duration time (5, 20, 40, 60minute) were main experimental variables. Through the test results, it was found that the optimum manufacturing condition of coarse recycled aggregate was evaluated to be $600^{\circ}C$ and 40minute.

  • The heating system, ondol is indispensable for the Korean traditional houses. In the field of architecture today has been made rapid progress in Korea, but it is fact that under-floor heating system in traditional houses in korea has not improved up to now. As a matter of fact, to improve the traditional ondol under present housing structure is very difficult problem. So long as we live in such houses, we architects will have to fulfil our responsibility to improve the ondol system. This article offering data as a basic experiment will be helpful in studing under-floor heating system ondol.

  • The purpose of the target system for the muon spin rotation, relaxation, and resonance (µSR) facility at the Rare isotope Accelerator complex for ON-line experiments (RAON) is to induce the production of a significant number of surface muons in thermally stable experiments. The manufactured target system was installed at RAON in the Sindong area near Daejeon in 2021. The design was made conservatively with a sufficient margin of safety through ANSYS calculations; however, verification experiments had to be performed on the ANSYS calculations. Because the 600-MeV proton beam has not yet been provided, an alternative way to reproduce the calculation conditions was required. The radio frequency (RF) heating method, which has not yet been applied to the target verification experiment but has several advantages, was used. It was observed that the RF heating method has promise for testing the thermal stability of the target, and whether the target system design process was performed conservatively enough was verified by comparing the RF heating experiments with the ANSYS calculations.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the curing effect of heating cable for concreting in cold weather. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the temperature history of concrete structures cured with embedded heating cables. Results are as follows : In comparison with the non-heating case, applying of heating cable resulted in the rise of temperature in the range of $10^{\circ}C$. In order to get successful results, the optimal pitch length for the embedded heating cables ranged from 20cm to 25cm. When working with the existing curing methods, applying this heating cable would be more effective in concrete curing. Finally, a formula and process was suggested to predict the Internal temperature history of concrete structures under the various curing conditions.
