The effect of heat treatment on torsion characteristics of high nitrogen steel wire has been studied by using torsion test, micro vickers hardness and scanning electron microscopy. After heat treatment at $600{\sim}700^{\circ}C$, torsion cycle was increased with increasing temperature. Especially, in case of high nitrogen steel wire heat treated at $650^{\circ}C$, torsion cycle was sharply increased. It is estimated that the cold-worked high nitrogen steel wire started to recrystallize around at $640^{\circ}C$ in air atmosphere.
In this study, high-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were prepared by removing the unreacted metal constituents and amorphous carbon impurities using a post-annealing process. Unlike conventional thermal processing techniques, this technique involved different gas atmospheres for efficient removal of impurities. A heat treatment was conducted in the presence of chlorine, oxygen, and chlorine + oxygen gases. The nanotubes demonstrated the best characteristics, when the heat treatment was conducted in the presence of a mixture of chlorine and oxygen gases. The scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet absorbance, and sheet resistance measurements showed that the heat treatment process efficiently removed the unreacted metal and amorphous carbon impurities from the as-synthesized SWCNTs. The high-purity SWCNTs exhibited improved electrical conductivities. Such high-purity SWCNTs can be used in various carbon composites for improving the sensitivity of gas sensors.
To improve the mean-life and the reliability of power cable, we have investigated specific heat (Cp) and thermal conductivity of XLPE insulator and semiconducting materials in 154[kV] underground power transmission cable. Specimens were made of sheet form with the seven of specimens for measurement. Specific heat (Cp) and thermal conductivity were measured by DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) and Nano Flash Diffusivity. Specific-heat measurement temperature ranges of XLPE insulator were from $20[^{\circ}C]\;to\;90[^{\circ}C]$, and the heating rate was $1[^{\circ}C/min]$. And the measurement temperatures of thermal conductivity were $25[^{\circ}C],\;55[^{\circ}C]\;and\;90[^{\circ}C]$. In case of semiconducting materials, the measurement temperature ranges of specific heat were from $20[^{\circ}C]\;to\;60[^{\circ}C]$, and the heating rate was $1[^{\circ}C/min]$. And the measurement temperatures of thermal conductivity were $25[^{\circ}C]\;and\;55[^{\circ}]C$. From these experimental results both specific heat and thermal conductivity were increased by heating rate because volume of materials was expanded according to rise in temperature. We could know that a small amount of CNT has a excellent thermal properties.
In this study, a heat treatment process was applied to ZnS nano-powder to improve the optical properties of ZnS ceramic, and the characteristics of heat treatment time were studied. The ZnS nano-powders were synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis. The heat treatment was carried out at $550^{\circ}C$ for 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 hours in a vacuum atmosphere ($10^{-2}torr$). X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope analyzes confirmed the change of crystal phase and grain size to confirm the structural change with heat treatment time. The heat treated ZnS nano-powder was sintered by hot pressing, and the change of optical properties of the ZnS ceramic was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy.
To elucidate the effect of heat inputs on phase transformation and resistance to intergranular corrosion of F316 austenitic stainless steel (ASS), thermodynamic calculations of each phase and time-temperature-transformation diagram were conducted using JMaPro simulation software, oxalic acid etch test, double-loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation test (DL-EPR), field emission scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy analyses of Cr carbide (Cr23C6), austenite phase and ferrite phase. F316 ASS containing a relatively low C content of 0.043 wt% showed a slightly sensitized microstructure (acceptably dual structure) due to a small amount of Cr carbide precipitated at heat affected zone irrespective of heat inputs. Based on results of DL-EPR test, although heat input was increased, the ratio of Ir to Ia was only increased very slightly due to a slight sensitization. Therefore, heat inputs have little influences on resistance to intergranular corrosion of F316 austenitic stainless steel containing 0.043 wt% C.
The Korean government plans to establish large-scale horticultural facilities using reclaimed land to improve the competitiveness of the national agricultural sector at the government level. One of the most significant corresponding problems is the ongoing dependence of these facilities on fossil fuel, whereby constant heating is necessary during the winter season to provide the necessary breeding conditions for greenhouse crops. In particular, high-level energy consumption is incurred from the use of heating-related coverings with large heat-transmission coefficients such as those composed of vinyl and glass. This study investigated the potential applicability of waste-incineration heat for use in large-scale horticultural facilities by evaluating the hot-water temperature, heat loss, and available greenhouse area as functions of the distance between the incineration facility and the greenhouse. In conclusion, waste-incineration heat from a HDPE pipe can heat a horticultural facility of 10 ha if the distance is less than 8 km.
In this paper, we have investigated thermal properties by changing the content of carbon nanotube, which is component part of semiconductive shield in underground power transmission cable. Heat capacity (${\Delta}H$), glass transition temperature (Tg) and melting temperature (Tm) were measured with the samples of eight, through DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), and the measurement ranges of temperature selected from $-100[^{\circ}C]\;to\;100[^{\circ}C]$ with heating temperature selected per $4[^{\circ}C/min]$ Also, high temperature, heat degradation initiation temperature, and heat weight loss were measured by TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) in the temperature from $0[^{\circ}C]\;to\;700[^{\circ}C]$ with rising temperature of $10[^{\circ}C/min]$. As a result, the Glass transition temperatures of the sample were showed near $-20[^{\circ}C]{\sim}25[^{\circ}C]$, and the heat capacity and melting temperature from the DSC was increased according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube, while, thermal diffusivity was increased according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube. Also, heat degradation initiation temperature from the TGA results was increasing according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube with CNT/EEA. Therefore, heat stabilities of EVA, which contained the we VA (vinyl acetate), showed the lowest.
In this study, the effect of hot-stamping heat treatment on the microstructure and hardness of TWB(Tailor Welded Blank) laser joints in Al-Si-coated boron steel and Zn-coated DP(Dual Phase)590 steel was investigated. In the TWB joints without heat treatment, hardness profiles showed local hardness deviation near the fusion zone. However, there was no hardness deviation in the heat treated specimen and its hardness was higher than that of the one without the heat treatment, due to a fully martensite microstructure. In the TWB joints of both the boron and DP steels, the maximum hardnesses were observed at the HAZ(Heat Affected Zone) near the base metal, and the hardness decreased gradually to the base metal. In the heat treated joints, the hardnesses of the HAZ and the base metal of the boron steel side were similar to the maximum hardness of the weld, while those of the HAZ and the base metal of the DP steel side were higher than the maximum hardness.
Fitting process carried out in automobile transmission assembly line is classified into three classes; heat fitting, press fitting, and their combined fitting. Heat fitting is a method that heats gear to a suitable range under the tempering temperature and squeezes it toward the outer diameter of shaft. Its stress depends on the yield strength of gear. Press fitting is a method that generally squeezes gear toward that of shaft at room temperature by press. Another method heats warmly gear and safely squeezes it toward that of shaft. Warm shrink fitting process for automobile transmission part is now gradually increased, but the parts (shaft/gear) assembled by this process produced dimensional changes of gear profile in both radial and circumferential directions. So that it may cause noise and vibration between gears. In order to solve these problems, we need an analysis of warm shrink fitting process, in which design parameters are involved; contact pressure according to fitting interference between outer diameter of shaft and inner diameter of gear, fitting temperature, and profile tolerance of gear. In this study, an closed form equation to predict contact pressure and fitting load was proposed in order to develop optimization technique of warm shrink fitting process and verified its reliability through the experimental results measured in the field and FEM, that is, thermal-structural coupled field analysis. Actual loads measured in the field have a good agreement with the results obtained by theoretical and finite element analysis and also the expanded amounts of the gear profile in both radial and circumferential directions are within the limit tolerances used in the field.
