Plate heat exchangers (PHE) have been widely used in different industrial applications, because of high heat transfer efficiency per unit volume. Basic study is performed for PHE to the application of intercooler in automobile. In order to understand the flow phenomena in the plate heat exchanger, a channel which was formed by the upper and lower plate in single plate was considered as calculation domains. Because chevrons attached on the upper plate are brazed with chevrons attached on the lower plate, the flow channel has very complex configuration. This complex geometry was analyzed by Fluent. In order to validate this methodology the proper experimental and theoretical data are collected and compared with numerical results. Finally, due to the lack of experimental values for PHE to the application of intercooler, various chevron angles and air velocities at inlet were tested in terms of physical phenomena. From this point of view, results of velocity vector, path lines, static pressure, heat flux, heat transfer coefficient, and Nusselt number are physically reasonable and accepted for the solutions. From these results, the correlations for pressure drop and Nusselt number with respect to chevron angle and Reynolds number in specific PHE are obtained for the design purpose. Thus, the methodology of the flow analysis in the full geometry of the channel was established for the predictions of performance in plate heat exchanger.

The purpose of this study is augmentation of heat transfer without additional power in a rectangular impinging air jet. As a method of passive heat transfer augmentation in a two-dimensional air jet, heat transfer surface of flat plate with rods is used. This study, particularly in the wall jet rigeon, investigates the effect of the clearance between the flat plate and rod. Mechanism of heat transfer enhancement is investigated by measuring the local heat transfer coefficient. It is concluded that the superposition of the effects of flow accelerlation through the clearance between the flat plate and the rod, and reattachment of the flow was the cause of the excellent performance. The overall heat transfer rate of flat plate with rods is about 1.5 times larger than that of flat plate without rods.
The plate heat exchanger is characterized. by low pressure drop and high heat transfer coefficient. The experimental study has been performed on the condensation heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of the plate heat exchangers in this study. In the present study, a brazed type plate heat exchanger was investigated at a chevron angle of $45^{\circ},\;55^{\circ},\;and\;70^{\circ}$ with R410A. Condensation temperatures were varied from $20^{\circ}C\;and\;30^{\circ}C$, and mass flux was ranged from $13{\sim}34\;kg/m^{2}s$ with constant heat flux ($=5\;kw/m^{2}$). The heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop increased with the chevron angle. Average condensation heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops are decreased with increasing condensation tempeature.

Plate heat exchanger are being applied in the field of OTEC (ocean thermal energy conversion) and SWAC (seawater air conditioning) system. This study is to analyze numerically the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics by using solid works flow simulation in order to offer optimum design data of plate heat exchanger. Plater heat exchanger proposed in this study is four types. The geometric design parameters of plate heat exchanger are a channel space, a flow orientation, a plate array, the flowrate of working fluid and so on. The main results for numerical analysis of plate heat exchangers are summarized as follows. Heat transfer performance for the channel space of 2.4 mm shows the highest value compared to other spaces. And, the Type 4 plate heat exchanger in Table 2 is the highest performance. From the pressure drop characteristics of plate heat exchanger, the channel space of 3.2 mm shows the lowest value. And Type 1 plate heat exchanger in Table 2 is the lowest pressure drop.
For the study of an effect that fin thickness and shape of heat exchanger have on the elevation of heat transfer efficiency, we make models of plate fin type heat exchanger and louvered fin type heat exchanger which was given a transformation of fin thickness in plate f)n type heat exchanger and louvered fin type heat exchanger which are often used now. And the effect of fin thickness on pressure drop and characteristics of heat transfer was experimented and analysed when air velocity and temperature of plate heating was a variable. The results of experiment shows below. Pressure drop shows larger in louvered fin type exchanger than in plate fin type exchanger, size of pressure drop shows like this order that fin thickness is 0.3mm, 0.2mm, 0.1mm. Mean heat transfer coefficient shows higher in louvered fin type exchanger than in plate fin type exchanger, size of mean heat transfer coefficient by fin thickness shows same in both case in louvered fin type heat exchanger and plate fin type exchanger like this order that fin thickness is 0.1mm, 0.2mm, 0.3mm.

The heat transfer enhancement by pulsating flow in a plate heat exchanger has been experimentally investigated in this study. The effect of the pulsating flow, such as pulsating frequency and flow rate on the heat transfer as well as pressure drop in a plate heat exchanger has been studied in detail. Reynolds number in cold side of a plate heat exchanger is varied 100∼530 while that of hot side is fixed at 620. The pulsating frequency is considered in the range of 5∼30 Hz. The results of the pulsating flow are also compared with those of steady flow. It is found that the average heat transfer rate as well as pressure drop is increased as flow rate is increased for both steady flow and pulsating flow cases. When pulsating flow is applied to the plate heat exchanger, heat transfer could be substantially increased in particular ranges of pulsating frequency or Strouhal number; St=0.36∼0.60 and pressure drop is also increased, compared with those of steady flow. However, in the region of low pulsating frequency or high pulsating frequency, heat transfer enhancement is in meager. Heat transfer enhancement map is suggested based on Strouhal number and Reynolds number of pulsating flow.

In Infrared rays, which are 50% of sunlight, act as heat rays to heat buildings. Solar heat paint is widely used to protect buildings from sunlight. Solar heat coatings are used to block buildings form sunlight. Solar heat paints are classified as heat-reflective paints and heat-insulating paints according to the differential thermal mechanism. In this study, we study the thermal differential mechanism by analyzing the temperature change of the coated steel plate and the solar reflection spectrum on the surface. In this experiment, exposed steel plate, heat-reflective coated steel plate, heat-insulating coated steel plate, and general paint coated steel plate were used. As a result, when the infrared rays of 780nm ~ 1400nm were irradiated, the heat reflective paint had a temperature lower by 10 degrees than other paints. Analysis of the reflection spectrum of the paint shows that the heat paint is lower in heat than other paints because it has higher reflectance of light and absorbs much of the infrared rays.

Experiments on the condensation heat transfer and pressure drop in the brazed type plate heat exchangers are performed with refrigerants R410A/R22. To investigate the geometric effect, plate heat exchangers with the same pitch and height but different $45^{\circ},\;35^{\circ}and\;20^{\circ}$ chevron angles are used. Varying the mass flux of refrigerant (13~34 kg/$m^2$), the condensing temperatures ($20^{\circ}C\;and\;30^{\circ}C$) and the vapor quality (from 0.9 to 0.15) at the same constant heat flux ($5kW/m^2$), the condensation heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops are measured. The heat transfer coefficients decrease slightly with increasing the condensing temperature at a given mass flux in all plate heat exchangers. The pressure drop increases with increasing the mass flux and the quality and decreasing the condensing temperature and the chevron angle.
The experimental study has been conducted on heat transfer characteristics of the plate heat exchangers(PHE) by several researchers. However most of all were focused on a gasket-type plate heat exchanger. Therefore further studies are need for a brazed-type. In the present study, a brazed type plate heat exchanger was tested at a chevron angle of $70^{\circ},\;55^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ with R-22 and R-410A. Condensation temperatures were $24.5^{\circ}C$, and mass flux was ranged from 35 to $60kg/m^2s$. The inlet and exit conditions are in a superheated vapor and subcooled liquid, respectively. The heat transfer coefficient increased with the chevron angle. The heat transfer coefficient of R-22 was lamer than that of R-410A for all chevron angles.
