  • In this study, the quality contral of high strength reacy-mixed concrete with design compressive strength of 420 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ placed at a tail building for a long period is statistically investigated. The amount of cast-in-place high strength concrete is by about $15000\textrm{m}^3$. The required average compressive striength is 500 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ according to KS F 4009 with assumed coefficient of variation of 11%. Since there are many concrete members in this construction, fly ash is used to reduce the heat of hydration of concrete. As the results of this study, the average actual 28-day compressive strength is 498 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and the coefficient of variation is 6.7%. The placing speed is comparable to normal strength concrete, however, the pump pressure is higher than that of normal strength concrete.

  • By measuring concrete temperature and strains of concrete and reinforcing bars throughout gages embedded and also by observing the crack occurrence, this study aims at the characteristics of structural behavior of subway wall structure in associate with concrete ages. The length of 23.5m, thickness of 2.0m of real subway custody line was selected as a representative structure and 7 thermocouples and 6 strain gages were installed to measure the behavior of wall structure. The results were compared and verified with analytical results using MIDAS in order to show their usefulness. It was found that only attachment of strain gages on the surface of reinforcing bars can figure out the timing of crack occurrence and hydration heat program is useful to estimate comparatively exact magnitudes of temperature. Since estimated time of crack occurrence throughout thermal stress analysis depends on the period of transferred thermal stress from concrete to reinforcing bars, however, cracks from naked eyes were identified later than analytical results. Cracks were observed first at the center of wall line and then to the end of line symmetrically.

  • In order to solve the problem of low early-age compressive strength of high volume fly ash concrete. This paper studies the effect of 2% sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) as a chemical activator on the paste with 40% fly ash content and a water-binder ratio of 0.30. The results indicate that the addition of Na2SO4 can effectively improve the early-age compressive strength of the fly ash-cement system, and the strength improvement rate on the first day reached nearly 70%. In addition, calorimetric analysis reveals that the incorporation of Na2SO4 promotes the early hydration of cement and fly ash, increases the cumulative hydration heat and delays the heat peak of the aluminum phase.

  • In this study, This is the result of thermal characteristics analysis to suggest an efficient method of using coal gasification slag(CGS) of byproduct from integrated gasification combined cycle(IGCC). In Specific Heat characteristics, CGS and CS showed similar values. Isothermal Conduction Calorimetry showed that the hydration reaction of cement was retarded when CGS was used. Therefore, it is expected that CGS will be used as an efficient alternative to reducing the hydration heat of mass concrete as a functional aggregate combination.

  • Recently, lots of researches on concrete with high volume mineral admixtures such as ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS) have been carried out to reduce greenhouse gas. The high volume GGBS concrete has advantages such as low heat, high durability, but it has a limitation in practical field application, especially low strength development in early ages. This study investigated the compressive strength and hydration characteristics of high performanc and volume GGBS cement pastes with low water to binder ratio. The effects of fineness($4,330cm^2/g$, $5,320cm^2/g$, $6,450cm^2/g$, $7650cm^2/g$) and replacement(35%, 50%, 65%, 80%) of GGBS on the compressive strength, setting and heat of hydration were analyzed. Experimental results show that the combination of high volume slag cement paste with low water to binder ratio and high fineness GGBS powder can improve the compressive strength at early ages.

  • This paper reports the performance results of hydration heat control of mass concrete walls with pipe cooling system. The thickness of walls ranged from 0.9 to 2.2m. In order to investigate the effect of pipe cooling on the thermal and thermal crack characteristics, the pipe cooling was conducted for 42 walls, and the investigation of thermal cracks was conducted for 14 walls. Based on the investigation, the pipe cooling method decreased the peak temperature of about 13-2$0^{\circ}C$ and the thermal crack width of about 30% for mass concrete walls.

  • Durability of concrete structures is seriously compromised by cracking at early-age concretes, particularly in high-strength or high-performance concrete structures. Since early-age cracking is influenced by various factors that affect the hydration process, early-age shrinkage and stress/strain development, the behavior at early-age is highly complex and no rational methodologies for its control have yet been established. Concrete structures often present volumetrical changes particularly due to thermal and moisture related shrinkages. Volumetric instability is detrimental to the performance and durability of concrete structures because structural elements are usually restrained. These restrained shrinkages develope tensile stresses which often results in cracking in combination with the low fracture resistance of concrete. Early-age defects in high-performance concrete due to thermal and autogenous deformation shorten the life cycle of concrete structures. Thus, it is necessary to examine the behavior of early-age concrete at the stages of design and construction. The purpose of this study was to propose a shrinkage models of VES-LMC (very-early strength latex-modified concrete) at early-age considering thermal deformation and autogenous shrinkage.

  • Recently, a structure has been large and high under the improvement of construction technique. So, mass concrete constructions that a mat foundation thickness of structure is over 80cm have been many. Also, in the reason of high strength of concrete, a matter of thermal crack became an important task to be solved. In this study, we executed temperature and stress analysis of mat foundation. And we evaluated quantitatively about the possibility of thermal crack by using hydration heat analysis program. Because of this analysis technique, we could control skilfully the quality of mat foundation in a construction.

  • In this research, it used cement powder and reduction slag, which generates high hydration heat in hydration reaction without heat cure below $-5^{\circ}C$ degree. Purpose of final research is preventing freezing and thawing by making the compressive strength 5MPa in 3days below zero temperature due to own heat of concrete. and it is the result of physical characteristic and thermal property evaluation of reduction slag. Because reduction slag generates high hydration heat, compressive strength development is excellent. By generating highly hydration heat by $C_{12}A_7$ and $C_3A$ in reduction slag, compressive strength is developed in low temperature. In case of displacing only reduction slag without $SO_3$, it is indicated that quick-setting occurs by shortage of $SO_3$. For preventing quick-setting, gypsum is used essentially. According to this research result, in case of using reduction slag and gypsum as a ternary system, compressive strength developed 5MPa in 3 days below zero temperature. It is identified to prevent early frost damage of concrete below zero temperature.

  • The foundation of high-rise concrete building in coastal areas generally must be installed in an integrated manner, not separately, in order to prevent defects caused by stress on the upper and lower parts of the mounting surface and to manage the process smoothly. However, when performing integrated punching, there is a concern that temperature stress cracks may occur due to hydration heat. Due to the large member size, it is difficult to make a sufficient commitment, so it is necessary to mix concrete with high self-charging properties to ensure workability. In this research, the amount of high-performance spray and admixture used was adjusted as experimental variables to satisfy this required performance. Through the analysis of the results for each blending variable, it was found that the unit quantity was 155kg/m3 and the cement ratio in the binder was 18%, and the target values of the pre-concrete properties and compressive strength were satisfied. A four-component binder(18% cement, 50% slag fine powder, 27% fly ash, 5% silica fume) was used.
