The present study investigated the effect of air velocity on frost formation of slit fin-and-tube heat exchanger under frosting condition. The slit fin-and-tube heat exchanger with outer tube diameter 7.0mm and 1 row was used. Air side pressure drop, photographs of frost distribution, frost accumulation and frost thickness were presented with respect to the frosting time. In the early stage of experiment, the case with air velocity of 1.5m/s showed 403% higher for the air pressure drop than the case with the air velocity of 0.5m/s. As the frost was accumulated, the effect of air velocity on air pressure drop was decreased. In the end stage of test, air pressure drops of two cases were very close and air pressure drop for the air velocity of 0.5m/s was higher than that of 2.0m/s. It was also shown in the photographs of frost distribution, frost accumulation and frost thickness. From frost thickness, fanning friction factor was presented.

In this study, the experiment with 2rows-2columns fin-tube heat exchanger under forced convection and frosting condition is performed. The influence of each operating condition(the temperature of air, the humidity of air, the velocity of air, the temperature of coolant) on the growth of frost layer, air-side pressure drop, and characteristics of heat transfer is investigated. The experimental results show that the frost thickness increases rapidly in the early stage of frost formation and increases linearly after sometime. The frost thickness increases with the increase of the inlet air humidity and velocity and the decrease of inlet air temperature and coolant temperature. It is also found that the total energy transfer rate increases with the increase of inlet air temperature and velocity and with the decrease of inlet air humidity and coolant temperature.
A study was made to examine the effects of heat-treatment on the microstructures of Cu-bearing HSLA steels. The details of microstructures were studied by using optical microscopy(OM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and hardness test. The as-rolled microstructure of HSLA-A consists of ferrite (${\alpha}$) whereas that of HSLA-B consists of needle-shaped phase. The difference in microstructure can be ascribed to the different amount of Ni, Mn, Mo, Cu which affect the hardenability. The austenite grain size is very small up to $1000^{\circ}C$ owing to the Nb-precipitates. As the austenitizing temperature increases above $1000^{\circ}C$, the austenite grain grows rapidly. There are two hardness peaks in the hardness versus temperature curve, at $500^{\circ}C$ and at $675^{\circ}C$ (HSLA-A), $725^{\circ}C$ (HSLA-B). The peak at $500^{\circ}C$ result from the formation of Cu-precipitates and second hardness peak is created due to the formation of M-A constituents. The hardriess decrease in HSLA-B steel with ageing temperature is small because of the higher amounts of Cu than HSLA-A steel. The fine, round ${\varepsilon}$-Cu precipitates grow with ageing temperature and finally transform into rod shape.
Due to high specific strength and low density, AZ series magnesium alloys have been receiving high interest as a lightweight material. However, their industrial application is limited due to the phenomenon that the strength decreases at elevated temperature by the occurrence of softening effect because of the Mg17Al12 phase decomposition. To solve this problem, many research were conducted to increase the high-temperature strength by forming a thermal stable second-phase component by adding new elements to the AZ magnesium. Especially, adding Ca to AZ magnesium has been reported that Ca forms the new second-phase. However, studies about the analysis of decomposition or precipitation temperature, formation composition, and components to understand the formation behavior of these precipitated phases are still insufficient. Therefore, the effect of Ca addition to AZ61 on the phase change and microstructure of the alloy during annealing was investigated. As a result of analysis of the initial and heat-treated specimen, AZ61 formed α-Mg matrix and precipitated phase of Mg17Al12, and AZX611 formed one more type of precipitated phase, Al2Ca. Also, Al2Ca was thermal stable at high temperatures. And after annealing, the laves phase was decomposed to under 10 ㎛ size and distributed in matrix.

Numerical simulations were performed at atmospheric pressure in order to understand the effect of additives on flame speed, flame temperature, radical concentrations, $NO_x$ formation, and heat flux in freely propagating $CH_4-Air$ flames. The additives were both carbon dioxide and hydrogen chloride which had a combination of physical and chemical behavior on hydrocarbon flame. In the flame established with the same mole of methane and additive, hydrogen chloride significantly contributed toward the reduction of flame speed, flame temperature, $NO_x$ formation and heat flux by the chemical effect, whereas carbon dioxide mainly did so by the physical effect. The impact of hydrogen chloride on the decrease of the radical concentration was about $1.4\~3.0$ times as large as that of carbon dioxide. Hydrogen chloride had higher effect on the reduction of $EI_{NO}$ than carbon dioxide because of the chemical effect of hydrogen chloride. The reaction, $OH+HCl{\rightarrow}Cl+H_2O$, played an important role in the heat flux from flames added by hydrogen chloride instead of the reaction, $OH+H_2{\rightarrow}H+H_2O$ which was an important reaction in hydrocarbon flames.
A study was made to characterize the microstructures and mechanical properties of the base metal and the heat-affected zone(HAZ) in Cu-bearing HSLA-100 steel. The Gleeble thermal/mechanical simulator was used to simulated the weld HAZ. The relationship between microstructure and toughness of HAZ was studied by impact test, O. M, SEM, TEM, and DSC. The toughness requirement of military specification value was met in all test temperatures for the base metal. The decrease of HAZ toughness comparing to base plate is ascribed to the coarsed-grain and the formation of bainite. Obliquely sectioned Charpy specimens show that secondary crack propagate easily along bainite lath. Improved toughness(240J) at HAZ of $Tp_2=950^{\circ}C$ is due to the fine grain, and reasonable toughness(160~00J) in the intercritical reheated HZA is achieved by the addition of small amount of carbon which affects the formation of "M-A". Cu precipitated during ageing for increasing the strength of base metal is dissolved during single thermal cycle to $1,350^{\circ}C$ and is precipitated little on cooling and heating during subsequent weld thermal cycle. Thus, the decrease of toughness does not occur owing to the precipitation of Cu.
Three mixtures of elemental powders of Al-25at.%Ti, 48at.%Ti and 70at.%Ti were offered to ball milling process for the formation of intermetallic compounds of $Al_3Ti$, AlTi and $Ti_3Al$. Ballmilling or attrition process were carried out at the condition of rotaing speed of 110 or 350 rpm at $10^{-3}$ torr vacuum or argon atmospheres. $Al_3Ti$phases were fully obtained by heat treatment for 1 hors at $600^{\circ}C$ with Al-25at.%Ti composition mixtures milled by 100 hours. The amorphous phase was completely formed at the composition of Al-48at.%Ti mixed powders by milling 100hours at the 50 to 1 weight ratio of ball to powder, and AlTi compounds were obtained by heat treament. In the case of Al-70at%Ti mixed powders milled for 100 hours, $Ti_3Al$ and $Al_3Ti$intermetallic compounds were formed by heat treatment for 1 hour at $600^{\circ}C$. By attrition milling of 350rpm for 10 hours, $Ti_3Al$ phase was formed completley after heat treatment for 1 hour at $600^{\circ}C$.
The effects of Mg content on the pore formation, density and critical properties were investigated in in-situ reacted $MgB_2$ superconductors. The $Mg_{1+x}B_2$, (x=-0.2, 0.0, 0.05, 0.3, 1.0) bulk samples with different Mg contents were heat-treated at $900^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in an Ar atmosphere. The dimensional changes of a pellet's mass and volume after heat-treatment were measured. After heat-treatment process, the sample mass was decreased by Mg evaporation, but the sample volume was expanded by pore formation at the Mg site; therefore, the apparent density was decreased. Spherical pores the same as Mg particles were developed after heat-treatment in all samples, and the pore density was increased with increasing Mg content. As the x of Mg content was increased to 1.0, the apparent density of $Mg_{1+x}B_2$ samples was decreased due to a relatively larger reduction in a mass change. The critical current density of Mg excessive sample of x=0.05 showed the highest values over the applied magnetic fields because the excessive Mg may compensate Mg loss and enhance grain connectivity.

The solidification rate is of special importance in determining the casting structures and properties. The heat transfer characteristics at the interface between the mold and the casting is one of the major factors that control the solidification rate. The thermal resistance exists due to the air-gap formation at the mold/casting interface during the freezing process. In this study two-dimensional Stefan problem with air-gap resistance in the rectangular mold is considered and the heat transfer characteristics is numerically examined by using the enthalpy method. The effects of the major parameters, such as mold geometry, thermal conductivity, heat transfer coefficient, and initial temperature of casting, on the thermal characteristics are investigated.
