A Study on Heat Transfer Characteristics in Flow Boiling of Pure Refrigerants and Their Mixtures in Horizontal Tube (수평 전열관내 유동비등하는 순수냉매와 혼합냉매의 열전달 특성에 관한 연구)

  • An experimental study was carried out in a uniformly heated horizontal tube to examine heat transfer characteristics of pure refrigerants, R134a and R123, and their mixtures during flow boiling. The flow pattern was also observed through tubular sight glasses with an internal diameter of 10 mm located at the inlet and outlet of the test section. Tests were run at a pressure of 0.6 MPa and in the heat flux ranges of 5~100 kW/$m^2$, vapor Quality 0~100 percent and mass velocity of 150-600 kg/$m^2$s. The observed flow patterns were compared to the flow pattern map of Kattan et al., which predicted well the present data over the entire range of mass velocity employed in this study. Heat transfer coefficients of the mixture were less than the interpolated values between pure fluids both in the low quality region where the nucleate boiling is dominant and in the high quality region where the convective evaporation is dominant.

  • Experiments in low strain rate methane-air counterflow diffusion flames diluted with $CO_2$ have been conducted to investigate the flame extinction behavior and edge flame oscillation in which flame length is less than the burner diameter and thus lateral conductive heat loss in addition to radiative loss could be remarkable at low global strain rates. The critical mole fraction at flame extinction is examined in terms of velocity ratio and global strain rate. It is seen that flame length is closely relevant to lateral heat loss, and this sheets flame extinction and edge flame oscillation considerably. Lateral heat loss causes flame oscillation even at fuel Lewis number less than unity. Edge flame oscillations are categorized into three: a growing-, a harmonic- and a decaying-oscillation mode. Onset conditions of the edge flame oscillation and the relevant modes are examined with global strain rate and $CO_2$ mole fraction in fuel stream. A flame stability map based on the flame oscillation modes is also provided at low strain rate flames.

  • 운전자의 안전과 감성적 요구사항이 중요시 되는 차세대 자동차의 IP(Instrument Panel) 설계를 위해 운전자으 인지특성을 고려하였다. 오디어 유닛과 HVAC(Heat, Ventilation and Air Condition)등의 주요 IP 구성요소 설계에 중점을 두었으며, 운전자의 인지특성과 가장부합하는 형태의 IP를 도출하기 위해 인지실험을 실시하였다. 첫 번째로, 기존의 차량에 설계된 IP 궁성요소를 분석하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 버튼의 수와 배열, LCD패널의 위치등을 조합하여 총 16개의 IP 프로토타입을 제작하였다. 다음으로, 제작된 프로타입을 각각 0.2, 0.4, 0.6초의 간격으로 Tachisto scope를 이용하여 피실험자에게 제시한후, 인간의 인지 지도(Human cognitive Map)에 근거한 '그리가 방법(Drawing Method)'을 이용하여 그들의 단기기억(Short-term Memory)상의 정보를 주어진 답안지에 그리도록 하였다. 이 인지실험의 다구찌 분석을 통하여 운전자의 인지특성을 고려한 최적의 IP형태를 제시하였다.

  • Dual phase steels have a microstructure comprising of a polygonal ferrite matrix together with dispersed islands of martensite. There are clear differences between the image quality (IQ) map of the dual phase and the corresponding ferritic/pearlitic structures, both in the as-heat treated and cold rolled conditions. Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) techniques were used to study the evolution substructure of steel due to plastic deformation. The martensite-ferrite and ferrite-pearlite interfaces were observed. The interface can be a source of mobile dislocations which the bands seem to originate from the martensite islands. In particular, the use of image quality is highlighted.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the freezing phenomena in printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) for cryogenic liquid hydrogen vaporizer. Local freezing phenomena in hot channels should be avoided in designing PCHE for cryogenic liquid hydrogen vaporizer. Hence, the flow and thermal characteristics of PCHE is experimentally investigated to figure out the conditions under when freezing occurs. To conduct lab-scale PCHE experiment, liquid nitrogen is used as a working fluid in cold channels instead of using liquid hydrogen. Glycol water is used as a working fluid in hot channels. Based on the experimental data, ratio between mass flow rates of cold channels and that of hot channels is proposed as contour map to avoid the freezing phenomena in PCHE.

  • When mixture of p-phenylenediamine (PPD) and m-aminophenol (MAP) were reacted with formaldehyde (F) varying their amounts under $N_2$ stream at the temperature of -5∼0$^{\circ}$, addition condensation reaction occurred and brown colored resins(in some cases orange colored) were formed immediately. All resins thus formed were insoluble in most ordinary organic solvents and did not melt up to 300$^{\circ}$. When the resins were treated with dilute(7 %) aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, the adsorptivity of methylene blue on them showed marked improvement reaching as much as 80 mg of methylene blue on 1 g of the resin. On the other hand, in the case of bromophenol blue, its amount of adsorption appeared 250 mg per 1 g of the resin. The TGA under $N_2$ atmosphere indicated that the resin formed in molar ratio of 1 : 3 : 8 (PPD : MAP : F) showed the best heat-resistant property among others. About 40 % weight loss was observed for this resin at 900$^{\circ}$ with heating rate of 2$^{\circ}$ per minute.

Analysis of Urban Heat Island Effect Using Time Series of Landsat Images and Annual Temperature Cycle Model (시계열 Landsat TM 영상과 연간 지표온도순환 모델을 이용한 열섬효과 분석)

  • Remote sensing technology using a multi-spectral satellite imagery can be utilized for the analysis of urban heat island effect in large area. However, weather condition of Korea mostly has a lot of clouds and it makes periodical observation using time-series of satellite images difficult. For this reason, we proposed the analysis of urban heat island effect using time-series of Landsat TM images and ATC model. To analyze vegetation condition and urbanization, NDVI and NDBI were calculated from Landsat images. In addition, land surface temperature was calculated from thermal infrared images to estimate the parameters of ATC model. Furthermore, the parameters of ATC model were compared based on the land cover map created by Korean Ministry of Environment to analyze urban heat island effect relating to the pattern of land use and land cover. As a result of a correlation analysis between calculated spectral indices and parameters of ATC model, MAST had high correlation with NDVI and NDBI (-0.76 and 0.69, respectively) and YAST also had correlation with NDVI and NDBI (-0.53 and 0.42, respectively). By comparing the parameters of ATC model based on land cover map, urban area had higher MAST and YAST than agricultural land and grassland. In particular, residential areas, industrial areas, commercial areas and transportation facilities showed higher MAST than cultural facilities and public facilities. Moreover, residential areas, industrial areas and commercial areas had higher YAST than the other urban areas.

  • This article focuses on Funology and a new classified application system based on concept of language and thought which are formed by body experience. It is defined by Funology Body as that. Funology Body is classifying and searching system which are consisted of a body, world (environment), and device tool. The body is sectioned by Brain, Eyes, Ears, Nose, Mouth, Hand, Torso, Feet, and Heart according as parts of the human body. This allows intuiting and experience searching as making classified system connected to the application relationship with concept of an each part of body.   • This paper studies approximate solutions for a class of nonlinear diffusion population models. Our methods are to use the fundamental solution of heat equations to construct integral forms of the models and the well-known Banach compression map theorem to prove the existence of positive solutions of integral equations. Non-steady-state local approximate solutions for suitable harvest functions are obtained by utilizing the approximation theorem of multivariate continuous functions.

  • Mixed convection of air in a horizontal concentric cylindrical annulus is investigated numerically. Isothermal boundary conditions are prescribed at the inner and outer cylinders, with the inner cylinder being warmer. The forced flow is induced by the outer cylinder which is rotating slowly with constant angular velocity with its axis at the center of the annulus. The effect of the forced flow on the flow pattern and heat transfer of natural convection is investigated for the annulus of (inner-cylinder radius/gap width) = 1. There appear two eddies, one eddy or no eddy according to the Rayleigh and Reynolds numbers. Map of the three flow regimes is constructed on the Ra-Re plane. (author). 28 refs., 9 figs., 2 tabs.
