In the present study, the focus is on the synthesis of nanosized WC powder by the chemical vapor condensation proces. The synthesized W-C system powder by the CVC process shows W2C, W, WO3 phases and can not shows WC phase. After recarburization heat treatment under mixture gas atmosphere of argon and hydrogen gases, the synthesized W-C system powder fully transformed to the pure WC. The synthesized WC powder after recarburization heat treatment has an average particle size of 20 nm. The nano-sized WC powder can be prepared by the combination of the CVC process and heat treatment methods.
This computational study examines the augmentation of classic 2-D Rayleigh-$B{\acute{e}}nard$ convection by the addition of periodically-spaced transverse fins. The fins are attached to the heated base of the cavity and serve to partition the cavity into 'units' with different aspect ratios. The respective impacts upon heat transfer of the fin configuration parameters - including spacing, height, thickness and thermal conductivity - are systematically examined through numerical simulations for a range of laminar Rayleigh numbers (0 < Ra < $2{\times}10^5$) and reported in terms of an average Nusselt number. The selection of the low Rayleigh number regime is linked to likely scenarios within aerospace applications (e.g. avionics cooling) where the cavity length scale and/or gravitational acceleration is small. The net heat transfer augmentation is found to result from a combination of competing fin effects, most of which are hydrodynamic in nature. Heat transfer enhancement of up to $1.2{\times}$ that for a Rayleigh-$B{\acute{e}}nard$ cavity without fins was found to occur under favorable fin configurations. Such configurations are generally characterized by short, thin fins with half-spacings somewhat less than the convection cell diameter from classic Rayleigh-$B{\acute{e}}nard$ theory. In contrast, for unfavorable configurations, it is found that the introduction of fins can result in a significant reduction in the heat transfer performance.
Non-heat treated steels are attractive in the steel-wire industry since the spheroidization and quenching-tempering treatment are not involved during the processing. However, non-heat treated steels should satisfy high strength and good formability without performing heat treatment. Therefore, it is important to investigate optimum materials showing a good combination of strength and formability after the drawing process. In this study, three different steels such as dual phase steel, low-Si steel, and ultra low carbon bainitic steel were used to study their mechanical properties and the cold formability. The cold formability of three steels was investigated by estimating the deformation resistance and the forming limit. The deformation resistance was estimated by calculating the deformation energy, and the forming limit was evaluated by measuring the critical strain revealing crack initiation at the notch tip of the specimens. The results showed that deformation resistance was the lowest in the low-Si steel, and the forming limit strains of ultra low carbon bainitic steel and low-Si steel were higher than that of commercial SWRCH45F steel.
An experimental study is carried out to investigate the characteristics of heat transfer of outside helical tubes. The main heat exchanger consists of twelve curved columns with each 300mm diameter and the total length of 1.2m copper tube having an outer diameter of 19.05mm with 1.5mm thickness. Water flows down the outside of helical tube, where flow patterns are the vertical film falling flow, immerged flow, and mixed-flow which is the combination of film falling flow and immerged flow. Refrigerant 11 flow the inside of the tube countercurrently. The experimental range of inside flow rate is 1.7~3.2$\ell$/min and outside flow rate is 21-33$\ell$/min. The results are presented as Nusselt number with corresponding Reynolds number for variety of outside and inside flow rates. The heat transfer rates of the mixed flow are 8 to 56% higher than those of film falling flow or immerged flow only. Interpretation of the results is given on the basis of physical reasoning and the correlation equations.
In this study, Urban Climate Simulation was performed by 3-Dimensional Urban Canopy Model. The characteristics of urban climate was analyzed combining artificial land coverage, building size, heat production from the air conditioning and topographic conditions as physical variables which affects urban climate characteristics. The results are as follows. (1)The aspects of the urban climatal change is derived to be related to the combination of the building coverage ratio, building height and shading area. (2)Whole heat generation was influenced by the convective sensible heat at the lower building height and by the artificial heat generation at the higher one over 20-story building influence to some extent of the building coverage ratio. The effect of the altitude is not more considerable than the other variables as below $1^{\circ}C$ of the air temperature.

Heat treatment is a controlled heating and cooling process to improve the physical and/or mechanical properties of metal products without changing their shapes. Today finite element method is widely used to simulate lots of manufacturing processes including heat treatment and surface hardening processes, which aims to reduce the number of time- and cost-consuming experimental tryouts. In this study we tried, using this method, to simulate the full carburizing process that consists of carburizing, diffusing and quenching, and to predict the distribution of carbon contents, phase fraction and hardness, thermal deformation and other mechanical characteristics as the results. In the finite element analysis deformation, heat transfer, phase transformation and diffusion effects are taken into consideration. The carburizing process of a lock gear, a part of the car seat recliner, that is manufactured by the fine blanking process is adopted as the analysis model. The numerical results are discussed and partly compared with experimental data. And a combination of process parameters that is expected to give the highest surface hardness is proposed on the basis of this discussion.
A numerical optimization has been carried out to determine the shape of the three-dimensional channel with oblique ribs attached on both walls to enhance turbulent heat transfer. The response surface based optimization is used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer. Shear stress transport (SST) turbulence model is used as a turbulence closure. Numerical results fur heat transfer rate show good agreements with experimental data. four dimensionless variables such as, rib pitch-to-rib height ratio, rib height-to-channel height ratio, streamwise rib distance on opposite wall to rib pitch ratio, and the attack angle of the rib are chosen as design variables. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of heat-transfer and friction-loss related coefficients with a weighting factor. D-optimal method is used to determine the training points as a means of design of experiment. Sensitivity of the objective parameters to each design variable has been analyzed. And, optimal values of the design variables have been obtained in a range of the weighting factor.
The purpose of this study is to minimize the heat transfer surface area and cold fluid exit temperature of heat exchanger which applied to the refrigeration and air-conditioning system by utilizing the thermoelectric principle. Both uniform and non-uniform current distribution methods which applied to the analysis of the TE elements that incorporates heat exchanger were investigated. The non-uniform current distribution method had the better coefficient of performance and had the lower cold fluid exit temperature of the TE cooling system than the uniform current distribution method. It was found that if a TE cooling system incorporates a heat exchanger, a non-uniform current distribution should guarantee to the lowest cold fluid exit temperature. Also, the hybrid method (combination of the uniform and non-uniform current distribution method) is investigated to achieve the best results by combining the uniform and non-uniform current distributions. The results show that it can lower the cold fluid exit temperature and reduce the heat transfer surface area for the parallel flow arrangement if we apply the constant current in some entry region and the non-uniform increasing current in the direction of the cold fluid flow afterwards.

We have assessed the applicability of the thermal-hydraulic system analysis code, SPACE, to a small modular reactor called SMART. For the assessment, the experimental data from a scale-down integral-test facility, SMART-ITL, were used. It was conformed that the SPACE code unrealistically calculates the safety injection flow rate through the CMT and SIT during a small-break loss-of-coolant experiment. This unrealistic behavior was due to the overprediction of interfacial heat transfer at the steam-water interface in a vertically stratified flow in the tanks. In this study, a special thermal-hydraulic component model has been developed to realistically calculate the interfacial heat transfer when a strong non-equilibrium two-phase flow is formed in the CMT or SIT. Additionally, we developed a special heat structure model, which analytically calculates the heat transfer from the hot steam to the cold tank wall. The combination of two models for the tank are called the special component model. We assessed it using the SMART-ITL passive safety injection system (PSIS) test data. The results showed that the special component model well predicts the transient behaviors of the CMT and SIT.
