Acute phase protein mRNA expressions and enhancement of antioxidant defense system in Black-meated Silkie Fowls supplemented with clove (Eugenia caryophyllus) extracts under the influence of chronic heat stress

  • Background: The current study investigates the anti-stress effects of clove (Eugenia caryophyllus) extracts (0, 200, 400, and 600 mg/kg) on serum antioxidant biomarkers, immune response, immunological organ growth index, and expression levels of acute phase proteins (APPs); ovotransferrin (OVT), ceruloplasmin (CP), ceruloplasmin (AGP), C-reactive protein (CRP), and serum amyloid-A (SAA) mRNA in the immunological organs of 63-d-old male black-meated Silkie fowls subjected to 21 d chronic heat stress at $35{\pm}2^{\circ}C$. Results: The results demonstrated that clove extract supplementation in the diet of Silkie fowls subjected to elevated temperature (ET) improve growth performance, immune responses, and suppressed the activities of glutathion peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and thioredoxin reductase (TXNRD); reduced serum malonaldehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) concentrations when compared with fowls raised under thermoneutral condition (TC). Upon chronic heat stress and supplementation of clove extracts, the Silkie fowls showed a linear increase in GSH-Px, SOD, CAT, and TXNRD activities (P = 0.01) compared with fowls fed diets without clove extract. ET decreased (P < 0.05) the growth index of the liver, spleen, bursa of Fabricius and thymus. However, the growth index of the liver, spleen, bursa of Fabricius and thymus increased significantly (P < 0.05) which corresponded to an increase in clove supplemented levels. The expression of OVT, CP, AGP, CRP, and SAA mRNA in the liver, spleen, bursa of Fabricius and thymus were elevated (P < 0.01) by ET compared with those maintained at TC. Nevertheless, clove mitigates heat stress-induced overexpression of OVT, CP, AGP, CRP and SAA mRNA in the immune organs of fowls fed 400 mg clove/kg compared to other groups. Conclusions: The results showed that clove extracts supplementation decreased oxidative stress in the heat-stressed black-meated fowls by alleviating negative effects of heat stress via improvement in growth performance, antioxidant defense mechanisms, immunity, and regulate the expression of acute phase genes in the liver and immunological organs.

열적지표를 적용한 국내 고심도 석탄광산의 열환경 평가 연구 (A Study on Evaluation of Thermal Environment using Heat Stress Indices for Deep Coal Mine in Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 현장실측을 통하여 강원도 태백에 위치한 대규모 석탄광산의 열환경을 평가하였다. 열환경 평가를 위하여 WBGT, HSI, ESI, KATA지수 및 유효온도 등 다양한 열적지표를 적용하였고, 상관분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 대부분의 작업장에서 높은 열환경이 평가되었고, 특히 열적지표 중 인체의 생리학적 특성을 반영하는 HSI와 최대 땀증발열의 상관계수는 -0.834이고 이것은 HSI지표에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 최대 땀증발열에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 인자는 공기속도이다. 따라서 운영 중인 제 1수직갱의 연장 굴착 또는 공기 누기를 방지하기 위한 구조물을 설치함으로써 환기량 증대를 통해 작업장의 열환경을 개선시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

천장제트기류에 대한 국내 정온식 열감지기의 작동온도 및 반응시간지수(RTI)에 관한 DB 구축 (DB Construction of Activation Temperature and Response Time Index for Domestic Fixed-temperature Heat Detectors in Ceiling Jet Flow)

  • 성능위주 소방설계(PBD)의 안전성 평가 과정에서 화재모델링의 신뢰성 확보를 위해서는 화재감지기 작동시간의 정확한 예측성능이 요구된다. 본 연구는 대표적 화재모델인 FDS에 적용되는 정온식 열감지기의 주요 입력인자인 감지기 작동온도와 RTI의 측정을 목표로 한다. 이를 위해 화재감지기 실험 장치인 Fire detector evaluator (FDE)가 적용되었으며, 제품 인지도 조사를 통해 선정된 국내 10종의 정온식 감지기가 고려되었다. 결과적으로 감지기의 제조사별로 작동온도와 RTI는 상당한 차이가 있는 것으로 확인되었으며, 측정된 DB가 적용된 FDS의 감지기 작동시간은 보다 정확한 예측이 가능함을 확인하였다. 최종적으로 신뢰성이 확보된 정온식 열감지기의 작동온도와 RTI의 DB가 제공되었다.

도시 가로수의 증산 작용으로 인한 불쾌지수 변화 분석 (Analyzing Change of Discomfort Index for Transpiration of Street Tree)

  • Thermal environment of city is getting worse due to severe urban heat island caused by climate change and urbanization. The cooling effect of street tree is regarded as a effective way to ameliorate the urban heat environment. The effect is largely made up of shadow formation and transpiration. This study aims to identify how the transpiration affects the discomfort index by analyzing comprehensive impact of the transpiration on the air temperature and relative humidity. The changes in the amount of transpiration, air temperature, and relative humidity were estimated for Seogyo-dong area which has a lot of floating population in Seoul, at 2 p.m. in dry day in July and August. On average, the transpiration of the street tree decreased the temperature 0.3℃ and increased the relative humidity 2.6% in an hour. As a result of these changes in temperature and humidity, the discomfort index rose mostly(0.036 on average). It was always get rise especially on the day when the discomfort index was above 80(0.05 on average). However, compared with the significant change in temperature and humidity, the variation of the discomfort index itself was very slight(up to 0.107). Therefore, the effect of transpiration by the street trees might not be effective in the planning to improve the thermal environment(especially on the day when the discomfort index is high). It is necessary to select the species of trees and planting location considering the cooling effect of shade formation synthetically.

희박 예혼합 덤프 연소기에서 OH 자발광을 이용한 열 방출에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Heat Release in a Lean Premixed Dump Combustor Using OH Chemiluminescence Images)

  • Measurements of OH chemiluminescence in an atmospheric pressure, laboratory-scale dump combustor at equivalence ratios ranging from 0.63 to 0.89 were reported. The signal from the first electronically excited state of OH to ground state was detected through a band-pass filter with an ICCD. The objectives of this study are two: One is to see the effects of equivalence ratio on global heat release rate and local Rayleigh index distribution. To get the local Rayleigh index distribution, the line-of-sight images were inverted by tomographic method, such as Abel do-convolution. Another aim is to investigate the validity of using OH chemiluminescence acquired with an ICCD as a qualitative measure of local heat release. For constant inlet velocity and temperature, the overall intensities of OH emission acquired at different equivalence ratio showed periodic and higher value at high equivalence ratio. OH intensity averaged over one period of pressure increased exponentially with equivalence ratio. Local Rayleigh index distribution clearly showed the region of amplifying or damping the combustion instability as equivalence ratio increased. It could provide an information/insights on active control such as secondary fuel injection. Finally, local heat release rate derived from reconstructed OH images were presented fur typical locations.

경년열화 기간에 따른 원자력발전소용 비안전등급 케이블의 연소특성 분석 (Combustion Characteristics Analysis of a Non-class 1E Cable for Nuclear Power Plants according to Aging Period)

  • In this study, combustion and smoke release characteristics of a non-class 1E cable for nuclear power plants were investigated according to aging period. The aging was reproduced through an accelerated aging method for interval of 10 years :10, 20, 30 and 40 year, which was applied the Arrhenius equation. The cable was subjected to accelerated aging. In order to understand combustion and smoke release characteristics, the cone calorimeter test was performed according to the standard code of KS F ISO 5660-1. Heat release rate, mass loss rate, average rate of heat emission and smoke production rate were examined through cone calorimeter test. Fire performance index, fire growth index and smoke factor were derived from test results for the comparison of quantitative fire risk. When comparing the fire performance index and the fire growth index, the early fire risk tends to decrease as aging progresses, which might be attributed from the fact that the volatile substances of cables were evaporated. However, when comparing the heat release rate, average rate of heat emission and mass loss rate, which represent the mid and late periods of the fire risk, the values of accelerated aging cables were much higher than those of non-aged cable, which signifies the unstable formation of the char layer resulted in the change in the performance of flame retardants. In addition, the results from the smoke characteristics show that the accelerated aging cables were lager than the non-aged cables in terms of overall fire risk. These results can be used as baseline data when assessing fire risk of cables and establishing fire safety code for nuclear power plants.

도시 열저감 관점에서의 오픈스페이스 토지이용 공간패턴분석 (Open Space Spacial Pattern Analysis from the Perspective of Urban Heat Mitigation)

  • 연구목적은 오픈스페이스 토지이용 공간패턴이 도시 열저감 관점에서 어떤 의미를 갖는지 토지이용 시나리오를 이용하여 가능성 수준에서 살펴보는 것이다. 연구방법은 다음과 같다: (1) InVEST Urban Cooling Model을 이용, 5개 토지이용 시나리오별 Cooling Capacity Index 산출, (2) Guidos Spatial Pattern Toolbox를 사용, 토지이용 시나리오별 각각의 오픈스페이스 Entropy와 형태학적 공간패턴 산출, (3) InVEST 결과값과 Guidos 결과값들의 Spearman rank correlation analysis. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. Cooling Capacity Index와 오픈스페이스 면적비 순위 상관성은 보통이며(rho=0.50), 그 외 지표들은 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 도시 열저감 관점에서는 오픈스페이스 총량만이 큰 의미를 가질 가능성이 있으며, 그 외 오픈스페이스 입지 공간패턴은 도시 열환경 관리 관점에서 큰 의미는 없을 수 있다는 가능성이 관찰되었다.

저발열 콘크리트를 사용한 교각 기초-기둥의 수화열 해석에 관한 연구 (Study on Hydration Heat Analysis of Pier Foundation-Column Using Low Heat Concrete)

  • 본 연구에서는 Premixed 혼합시멘트를 사용한 저발열 콘크리트에 대하여 기초물성 평가로 공기량, 슬럼프 및 압축강도 시험을 수행하고, 수화열 해석을 수행하여 Premixed 혼합시멘트를 사용한 콘크리트의 현장 적용성을 검토하였다. 검토 결과 Premixed 혼합시멘트를 사용한 저발열 콘크리트는 목표 작업성 및 설계기준 압축강도를 충분히 만족하였다. 또한, 수화열 해석 결과 Premixed 혼합시멘트를 사용한 저발열 콘크리트는 목표 온도균열지수를 충분히 확보할 수 있었다. 따라서, 현장 교량구조물의 교각 기초-기둥의 시공에 있어 Premixed 혼합시멘트를 사용한 저발열 콘크리트의 적용은 바람직한 것으로 판단된다.

Estimation of the genetic milk yield parameters of Holstein cattle under heat stress in South Korea

  • Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the genetic components of daily milk yield and to re-rank bulls in South Korea by estimated breeding value (EBV) under heat stress using the temperature-humidity index (THI). Methods: This study was conducted using 125,312 monthly test-day records, collected from January 2000 to February 2017 for 19,889 Holstein cows from 647 farms in South Korea. Milk production data were collected from two agencies, the Dairy Cattle Genetic Improvement Center and the Korea Animal Improvement Association, and meteorological data were obtained from 41 regional weather stations using the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) installed throughout South Korea. A random regression model using the THI was applied to estimate genetic parameters of heat tolerance based on the test-day records. The model included herd-year-season, calving age, and days-in-milk as fixed effects, as well as heat tolerance as an additive genetic effect, permanent environmental effect, and direct additive and permanent environmental effect. Results: Below the THI threshold (${\leq}72$; no heat stress), the variance in heat tolerance was zero. However, the heat tolerance variance began to increase as THI exceeded the threshold. The covariance between the genetic additive effect and the heat tolerance effect was -0.33. Heritability estimates of milk yield ranged from 0.111 to 0.176 (average: 0.128). Heritability decreased slightly as THI increased, and began to increase at a THI of 79. The predicted bull EBV ranking varied with THI. Conclusion: We conclude that genetic evaluation using the THI function could be useful for selecting bulls for heat tolerance in South Korea.

히트파이프를 이용한 매스콘크리트의 수화열 제어에 관한 실험 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Hydration Heat Control of Mass Concrete Using Heat Pipe)

  • In order to eliminate the hydration heat of mass concrete, this paper reports the results of hydration heat control in mass concrete using the OCHP (Oscillating capillary tube heat pipe). In the summarized results of the mock up experiments, distributing the heat pipe at 300 mm intervals based on the center of the test specimen was the most effective. A 200 mm turn interval for the heat pipe was measured to be the most appropriate, taking into account the reinforcement placing at the actual site. Therefore, when the hydration heat control method using the heat pipe developed in this study is applied, not only canconstruction efficiency & a reduction in the necessary construction time be expected, but so can outstanding economical effects.
