Recent trends place an emphasis on school health care, the ultimate goal of which is to protect, maintain, and promote students' health. School health care is a program that integrates health care services, health education, health counseling, and local social health services. The student health examination (SHE) system is a part of school health care and schools and communities must be available to provide professional health services. Pediatricians also have important roles as experts in both school health care and the SHE system. In this article, the history of school health care, its legal basis, and the current status of the SHE system in Korea are reviewed. Furthermore, sample surveys from the past few years are reviewed. Through this holistic approach, future directions are proposed for the improvement of SHE and school health care.

There is a strong need to develop a training program for specialized personnel called mental health librarian. The study examines the necessity of ongoing education as series of steps to be considered in actual curriculum development, by looking at the features of bibliotherapy through a literature review and through an analysis to the requirements of a qualified mental health librarian and its training system. The result shows that, in order to train librarian in mental health, it is necessary to establish courses corresponding to the bibliotherapy field within the subject of library and information sciences and to strengthen the specialization in the its curriculum. It is desirable to establish the mental health librarian educational programs in library and information science graduate programs in Korea. The results of this study, as fundamental data for future research, will promote the role of the specialized mental health librarian and guidelines for developing and expanding the qualities and training of specialized librarian to resolve the immediate problem of the Korean library scene and academia.
Physicians should be able to address health-related issues of patients and populations from a multidimensional perspective. Therefore, medical schools have a social responsibility to develop and implement curricula that enable trainees to acquire the competencies needed to improve all aspects of patient care and healthcare delivery. This study explored the concept of health systems science concept as the third pillar of medical education (the other two are basic science and clinical medicine) in the Korean context, as well as related educational needs. The theoretical foundation of health systems science is the biopsychosocial conceptual model, which emphasizes the biological, psychological, and social factors surrounding patients. We concluded that the three domains (core functional, foundational, linking) and 12 subcategories of health systems science proposed by the Association of American Medical Colleges could be applied to Korean medical education. Health systems science education must be emphasized to solve the various healthcare problems facing Korea today and to train physicians to provide medical services in line with society's needs. Introducing a health systems science curriculum will be challenging in the Korean medical environment, which has traditionally emphasized basic science and clinical medical education. Health systems science education should begin in the basic medical education phase, where physicians' professional identity is formed, and continue through graduate medical education. It is essential to understand related educational needs, develop curricular content, conduct faculty development programs, and provide financial resources for the development of an integrated curriculum.

Constant comparative analysis of the data yielded the process of becoming a successful family caregiver: encountering the differences and chaos as novice; constructing their world of skilled caregivers; and becoming a hospital family as experienced caregivers. During the process of becoming an experienced hospital family, the discourse of family centered idea guided their caring behaviors and daily lives. Conclusion. The paternalistic family caregivers struggled, cooperated, and harmonized with the patriarchal world of professional health care system. During this process of becoming hospital family, professional nurses must act as cultural brokers between the lay family caring system and the professional caring system.

Methods: A hybrid model was used to develop the concept of competence. The model included a field study carried out in Seoul, Korea. The participants in this study were 20 PHNs who were working in the health promotion area. Results: The concept of health promotion competence was found to be a complex phenomenon having a meaning in two dimensions: personal-relationship and environmental-relationship. Four attributes and eight indicators were defined. Conclusion: Health promotion competence was defined as the ability to have understanding and flexibility in practicing (personal-relationship dimension) and to have capacity for uniqueness and leadership in planning (environmental-relationship dimension). Therefore, PHNs who work in the health promotion area should be equipped with attributes and indicators of health promotion competence to enhance their competence in health promotion.
