The purpose of this study was to analyze clothing expenditure patterns of urban, rural/farm, and rural/non-farm households. A sample of 23,994 households was selected from the 1996 National Survey of Household Income and Expenditure, and 1996 Farm Household Economy Survey. Frequency and regression analyses were used. Major findings were: 1) clothing expenditure of rural/farm households were significantly lower than that of urban and rural/non-farm households; 2) in terms of clothing expenditure by categories, urban and rural-non-farm households have similar expenditure pattern; 3) clothing expenditures relative to income were lower than 1 for all three groups; 4) clothing expenditures relative to total income for urban and rural/non-farm households were higher than 1, while that for rural/farm households was lower than 1; 5) a major factor explaining clothing expenditure differences between urban and rural consumers was the household head's occupation.
Using the 1996 Expenditure Survey of Urban Famines from the Korea National Statistics Office, this study examines the economic status and the inequality of the elderly households. To explain the inequality of the single elderly households, this study divides the elderly into three groups of single, couple, and Living with admit children, and compares the total household income, total household expenditure and the net saving amount of these three groups. The results of Gini coefficients and Lorenz curries show that the inequality is higher in the single elderly household than couple elderly households or living with adult children elderly households. To investigate the reason of the inequality, this study compares the income, expenditure, and net saving amount by working condition of the household head in each three group. The result implies the need of employment to get household income especially for the single elderly who are in the higher inequality economic condition.
The purpose of this study was to compare the housing expenditure patterns of elderly and non-elderly households. The raw data from the National Survey of Family Income and Expenditure 1996were used for this study. The final sample was 12,007 households. Generally, elderly households tended to spend less on housing expenditure than non-elderly ones. Also the effects of the household characteristics on housing expenditure were significantly different between elderly and non-elderly house holds. the household characteristics significantly effected on housing expenditure of both two house holds were household income, household size, and location of the residence. Occupation, duction, and sex of the head were household characteristics which had more influences on housing expenditure of elderly households.
This study examined the determinants of urban households' expenditures on alcoholic beverages, using double-hurdle models to distinguish between the decision to purchase (purchase decision) and the decision of how much to consume (expenditure decision). Data for this study were drawn from the 2000 Korean Household Income and Expenditure Survey. Households were likely to purchase alcoholic beverages with increasing of household income, tobacco expenditures, and household size. The age, sex, marital status, occupation, education level, type of house ownership, residing city were significantly related to the purchase decisions. Among those households which drink, as household income and tobacco expenditures increase, the age, sex (male), marital status (married), and education level of a household-head, house ownership, residing city (Seoul) were positively related to and the presence of young children were negatively related to the expenditure level of alcoholic beverages.
This study investigated female-head's employment and household economic status of the single-mother households compared to those in the two-parent households using the data from the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study. Major findings are: first, female-heads showed lower educational attainment, lower labor force participation rate, lower occupational status, and lower wage rates than male-heads; second, the level of household income was as 1.3 times as the Minimum Living Cost and the level of household expenditure was close to the Minimum Living Cost; third, one-thirds of single-mother households were in poverty. Based on the results, the implications to public policy were suggested.
The purposes of this study were to examine urban household's monthly expenses for public pension and to analyze the contributing factors. Data for this study were from the 2002 Urban Household Survey and consisted of a sample of 21,093 urban households. Statistics used for the analysis were frequencies, means, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. The major findings were as follows ; First, the average urban household monthly payment for the public pension was 104,036 won, consisting of 102,757 won for single earner households and 106,014 won for dual earner households. Second, the highest expenses for monthly public pension was urban households, followed by male household head(HH), HH's age from 41-50 years, HH's educational level was college, HH's job was public servant, family didn't live in Seoul, family w3s an extended family and family owned the house. Third, the significant factors affecting the urban household's monthly public pension were HH's gender, age, educational level, type of job, region, type of family, number of children, type of earner, monthly total income, increase of asset in a month and house ownership.
This study identifies the relation between recognition relatively deprivation and consumption patterns. The data used were the seventh Korea Welfare Panel Study (KOWEPS). The final sample of 1,597 households was selected based on several sampling steps standard weights suggested by KOWEPS were applied. The final sample was subdivided into household recognizing relatively deprivation (51.7%) and non-household recognizing relatively deprivation (48.3%) per level of subjective income and objective income. We derived six consumption patterns from the cluster analysis as per consumption ratio: transportation dominant consumption pattern, essential consumption pattern, other dominant consumption pattern, care attention consumption pattern, private transfer consumption pattern, and education dominant consumption pattern. The results of this study are as follows. The analysis of the determinants of recognizing relatively deprivation in regards to question one found that the household was likely to be relatively deprived when: the head of a household was older, a household had a dual income, children and more total assets then those assessed 1 year ago compared to household living conditions, result of comparing the consumption patterns difference between household recognizing relatively deprivation and non-household recognizing relatively deprivation indicated that household recognizing relatively deprivation was more likely to belong to the transportation dominant consumption pattern, other dominant consumption pattern, and private transfer consumption pattern. The multinomial logistic analysis conducted to understand the determinants affecting the consumption patterns of household recognizing relatively deprivation indicated differences in demographic characteristics, household-related variables, financial variables and perception of economic conditions.
Objectives: Protecting people against financial hardship caused by illness stands as a fundamental obligation within healthcare systems and constitutes a pivotal component in achieving universal health coverage. The objective of this study was to analyze the prevalence and determinants of catastrophic health expenditures (CHE) in Iran, over the period of 2013 to 2019. Methods: Data were obtained from 7 annual national surveys conducted between 2013 and 2019 on the income and expenditures of Iranian households. The prevalence of CHE was determined using a threshold of 40% of household capacity to pay for healthcare. A binary logistic regression model was used to identify the determinants influencing CHE. Results: The prevalence of CHE increased from 3.60% in 2013 to 3.95% in 2019. In all the years analyzed, the extent of CHE occurrence among rural populations exceeded that of urban populations. Living in an urban area, having a higher wealth index, possessing health insurance coverage, and having employed family members, an employed household head, and a literate household head are all associated with a reduced likelihood of CHE (p<0.05). Conversely, the use of dental, outpatient, and inpatient care, and the presence of elderly members in the household, are associated with an increased probability of facing CHE (p<0.05). Conclusions: Throughout the study period, CHE consistently exceeded the 1% threshold designated in the national development plan. Continuous monitoring of CHE and its determinants at both household and health system levels is essential for the implementation of effective strategies aimed at enhancing financial protection.
The objectives of this study are : to measure the level of rent burden. to examine the independent influences of the variables related to rent burden. to measure the level of family economic problem perception. to examine the differences in the level of family economic problem perception due to rent burden, household characteristics, housing characteristics and rent incresing. For these purpose, a survey is conducted using questionaires. The data used in this study included 369 renters living in Seoul. Statistics uses for data analysis were Frequency Distribution. Percentile, men, Pearson's Correlation, Partial Correlation, One-way ANOVA, Breakdown and Multiple Regression Analysis. Major findings are as follows : The average score of rent burden was 35.87, Therefore rent burden of large cities, rental households is very heavy. Family income, housing facility quality, rent type, and rent incresing have independent influences on rent burden. The average of family economic problem perception is above the mid-point of the scale. The level of family economic problem perception differs due to rent burden, family income, family life cycle, family size, occupation of household head, education leval of household head and homemaker, rent type, housing type, housing size, housing facility quality and rent increases. If the level of rent burden is below 25, family economic problem perception is adequate.
