In general vibration test considers both harmonic vibration and random vibration, When developing the vehicle component. But the effect of harmonic vibration is larger in the parts around the vehicle engine, sole testing the harmonic vibration is considered. In this study, the fatigue damage of the linear system fixed around the engine is analyzed when the effect of random vibration is higher, harsher than the normal road surface condition. In condition the vehicle speed and the engine RPM are similar, the higher the harshness of the road surface condition is, the larger the fatigue damage level is. Therefore both random vibration and harmonic vibration must be considered in vibration test of components around the engine. Proposing the sine on random(SOR) vibration test that can exam considering both of vibrations, harmonic and random.
Explicit design formulae of liquid column vibration absorber (LCVA) for suppressing harmonic vibration of structures with small inherent structural damping are developed in this study. The developed design formulae are also applicable to the design of a tuned mass damper (TMD) and a tuned liquid column damper (TLCD) for damped structures under harmonic force excitation. The optimum parameters of LCVA for suppressing harmonic vibration of undamped structures are first derived. Numerical searching of the optimum parameters of tuned vibration absorber system for suppressing harmonic vibration of damped structure is conducted. Explicit formulae for these optimum parameters are then obtained by a series of curve fitting techniques. The analytical result shows that the control performance of TLCD for reducing harmonic vibration of undamped structure is always better than that of non-uniform LCVA for same mass and length ratios. As for the effects of structural damping on the optimum parameters, it is found that the optimum tuning ratio decreases and the optimum damping ratio increases as the structural damping is increased. Furthermore, the optimum head loss coefficient is inversely proportional to the amplitude of excitation force and increases as the structural damping is increased. Numerical verification of the developed explicit design expressions is also conducted and the developed expressions are demonstrated to be reasonably accurate for design purposes.
Vibrations caused by automobile engine are absorbed mostly by a passive-type engine mount. However, user specifications for automobile vibrations require more stringent conditions and higher standard. Hence, active-type engine mounts have been developed to cope with such specifications. In this study, the active vibration absorber which can be attached to the sub-frame of automobile is used for the suppression of vibrations caused by engine. The active vibration absorbing system consists of sensor, actuator and controller where a control algorithm is implemented using DSP. The vibration caused by engine reveals harmonic disturbances varying with engine revolution. Therefore, the control algorithm should be able to cope with harmonic disturbances. In this study, the modified higher harmonic control technique which can selectively suppress harmonic disturbance is considered. Experimental results on automobile show that the proposed active vibration absorbing system is effective in suppressing vibrations caused by engine.

This paper presents the vibration and harmonic analysis of orthotropic laminated composite plate. The response of plate is determined using Finite Element Method. The eight noded shell 281 elements are used to analyze the orthotropic plates and results are obtained so that the right choice can be made in applications such as aircrafts, rockets, missiles, etc. to reduce the vibration amplitudes. Initially the model response for orthotropic plate and harmonic response for isotropic plate is verified with the available literature. The results are in good agreement with the available literature. Numerical results for the natural frequency and harmonic response amplitude are presented. Effects of boundary conditions, thickness to width ratio and number of layers on natural frequency and harmonic response of the orthographic plates are also investigated. The natural frequency, mode shape and harmonic analysis of laminated composite plate has been determined using finite element package ANSYS.

Radiation efficiency of a cylindrical shell whose surface vibrates under harmonic distribution is investigated by theoretical solutions and Boundary Element Method. The vibration modes of a cylindrical shell is determined from experiment and is compared with the result of Finite Element Method. Harmonic vibration response of the cylindrical shell under the point excitation and the radiation phenomena from its response is analyzed by Finite Element Method and Boundary Element Method.
Most bearing casings are designed to focus on strength and weight of themselves because rotor speed passes through the critical speed when operation begins in large plants such as power plants. And It is treated importantly the relation between rotating frequency of the rotor and the natural frequency of casings to prevent resonance. But there is some cases that it is overlooked for harmonic components above rotating frequency. So we present experimentally a case that harmonic forces may make a resonance on casing fixing probes to measure vibration in a turbine-generator system and the vibration is generated when one component of harmonic forces excites the mode that the natural frequency of a certain bearing casing is close to one of harmonics of basic rotating frequency (1x).
It is well known that the pipe will be unstable if the fluid velocity is higher than critical velocity. But even if the velocity of the fluid below the critical velocity, resonance will be caused by pulsation of the fluid. So, many people has studied about the piping system vibration due to a fluid pulsation. But almost guess that fluid has only one hamonic pulsation. Actually, like this case is rare quite. So, in this paper, we consider the vibration analysis of a pipe conveying fluid with several harmonic pulsations and compare the result which considers one hamonic pulsation with the result which considers several harmonic pulsations. And we verify the result in time domain again.
Harmonic vibration characteristics for the general rotor model having a breathing crack are analyzed. Analyses are performed at the half critical speed ranges. The vibration characteristics are explained by using the additional slope and bending moment at the crack position and the influence coefficient showing the structural dynamic characteristics of the rotor. With the low crack depth the magnitude of the additional slope is kept constant even at the speed range at which the orbit magnitude is very sensitive to the rotational speed change. At this speed range the vibration is affected by the influence coefficient only. As the dynamic bending moment exceeds the static bending moment with the increase of crack depth. the additional slope affects the vibration amplitude of cracked rotor and the crack propagation rate increases.
Cause of excessive vibration with twice the rotational speed of a two-pole generator rotor for the fossil power plants was investigated. The two-pole generator rotor, treated as a typically asymmetric rotor in vibration analysis, produces asynchronous vibration with twice the rotational speed, sub-harmonic critical speeds, and potentially unstable operating zones due to its own inertia and/or stiffness asymmetry. This paper introduces a practical balancing procedure, and presents the results of the investigation on sources of the excessive vibration based on the experimental vibration data of the asymmetric two-pole rotor in balancing.
Rotating systems concern with torsional vibration, and it should be considered in vibration analysis. To do this, the time-dependent torsional vibrations in a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) under the linear and harmonic external torque, are investigated in this paper. Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory is considered to demonstrate the nonlocality and constitutive relations. Hamilton's principle is established to derive the governing equation of motion and consequently related boundary conditions. An analytical method, called the Galerkin method, is utilized to discretize the driven differential equations. Linear and harmonic torsional loads, along with determined amplitude, are applied to the SWCNT as the external torques. SWCNT is considered under the clamped-clamped end supports. In free vibration, analysis of small scale effect reveals the capability of natural frequencies in different modes, and this results desirably are in coincidence with another study. The forced torsional vibration in the time domain, especially for carbon nanotubes, has not been done before in the previous works. The previous forced studies were devoted to the transverse vibrations. It should be emphasized that the dynamical analysis of torsion is novel, workable, and at the beginning of the path. The variations of nonlocal parameter, CNT's thickness, and the influence of excitation frequency on time-dependent angular displacement and nondimensional angular displacement are investigated in the context.
