This study was carried out to investigate the effects of suckers on chemical components with vertical and horizontal hanging method during stalk-cut curing in burley tobacco. The elongation and dry weights of suckers were increased until 14 days in vertical hanging method, and until 7days in horizontal hanging method after the beginning of curing. The contents of nicotine, protein-N and $NH_4$-N were decreased at treatment of more suckers during the curing. However, there was no significant difference by the hanging method. Solanone, damascenone, megastigmatrienone and 4-methyl phenol were increased gradually during curing. Those were increased with treatment of fewer suckers compared to treatment of more suckers. There was no significant difference by the hanging method.
This study was carried out to develop a new stalk curing of the horizontal hanging method that would reduce the harvesting and curing labor, and improve its quality of cured leaf than the conventional stalk curing method in burley tobacco. The horizontal hanging stalk-curing method designed from 1988 was compared with the conventional method. The horizontal method shortened the curing Period for 7 days and reduced to 0.3%, while it occurred 9.4% in the vertical method. In the horizontal method, the quality of cured leaf improved 9%, but the contents of chemical components and physical properties were similar to those of vertical method. The labor of stalk-cut and loading in curing facility reduced 28% by the horizontal method. In harvesting and curing process, the horizontal method resulted 12% of labor saving as compared with the vertical method. Key words : horizontal hanging stalk-curing method, vertical method, stalk-curing.
Hanging sleepers are frequently observed in the ballasted track with the rail of high rigidity. These hanging sleepers at the high speed line could cause such large dynamic force compared to those at the conventional line. This dynamic force would, in turn, deteriorate train running stability as well as riding comfort, and accelerate irregularity of track and failure of track materials, leading to a sharp increase in track maintenance cost. When the wheel-rail contact spring exhibits nonlinear behavior and some components of the system like hanging sleeper exhibit bi-linear behaviors, an effective analytical method is proposed for train-track interactions. The verification of the present method is carried out comparing numerical results by the present method and those by Ono's method of RTRI.
Hanging boards of the Joseon royal court are hung on buildings related to the royal family, such as palaces and Jongmyo Shrine, to show the hierarchy and character of the building. In addition, the manufacturing method and materials are recorded in the royal protocols of the Joseon Dynasty, so it is an important material for studying the manufacturing method and material changes at that time. However, the hanging boards were restored several times due to fire or war, and it is presumed that there is a change in the original form and material of the hanging boards. In particular, many hanging boards of the Joseon royal court were written with calligraphy by kings, so there are many forms consisting of gold letters on a black background. This study tried to analyze the pigments remaining in the letters of 44 of the Joseon royal hanging boards, which are presumed to be gold letters, and to find out the changes in the hanging board production method and materials by referring to the analysis results. The letters of the hanging boards studied were classified according to the current state of the gold pigment and the detected components. As a result of the analysis of character pigments, 24 embossing techniques and 5 intaglio techniques were mainly detected with gold (Au), but 15 embossing techniques were detected with brass (Cu, Zn). Only blue-green substances, not gold pigments, remain in some of the hanging boards in which brass components were detected. A reproduction experiment was conducted because the pigments of the brass component were not recorded in the literature and were not currently used as Dancheong pigments. In the reproduction experiment, it was difficult to confirm the application and use of brass pigments due to the limitations of materials, but it is judged that research on the timing and method of using brass pigments is needed in the future.
Objectives: Hanging is a common method of attempted suicide. This study investigated the epidemiological profile of attempted and completed suicides by hanging in southern Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 1167 suicide attempts by hanging between 2011 and 2019. All data related to suicide attempts by hanging were collected from the Fars Suicide Surveillance System. The trends in suicide cases and the mean age of attempted and completed suicides were plotted. The chi-square test was used to identify suicide-related factors. Crude rates of incidence, mortality, and standardized fatality during the study period were calculated. Finally, logistic regression was used to identify the predictors of death in individuals who attempted suicide. Results: The mean age of those who attempted suicide was 33.21±16.82 years; the majority were male (80.5%). The rate of attempted and completed suicide by hanging were 3.50 and 2.79 per 100 000 people, respectively. The case-fatality rate was calculated as 79.34%. The results of our study indicated an increasing trend in suicide attempts by hanging. The likelihood of death was 2.28 times higher in individuals with a previous history of suicide attempts and 1.85 times higher in those with a psychological disorder. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest an increasing trend in attempted and completed suicide by hanging, especially among individuals with a history of suicide attempts and psychological disorders. It is necessary to take action to reduce the rate of suicide attempts and identify the underlying causes of suicide attempts by hanging.

Hanging sleepers, which are not fully supported between the sleepers and the ballast, could cause large dynamic forces especially on high speed ballasted track. The dynamic forces resulting from insufficient supporting forces may badly affect the running stability and safety of train. These also accelerate track irregularities and deteriorate track components rapidly. Consequently, the hanging sleepers will lead to sharp increases in track maintenance cost. This paper introduces a rapid and easy method to detect hanging sleepers with portable light falling weight deflectometer (LFWD) and summarizes the results of experiments performed at the high speed ballasted track.

Current study was conducted to investigate the effect of different hanging techniques (achilles tendon, aitch bone and pelvic ligament) on variations in sarcomere length and palatability within and between muscles using thirty-four Angus steer sides. Results showed that tenderstretch(by either suspension method) resulted in longer sarcomeres for most positions within the major leg muscle than did conventional hanging method, but in some minor muscles(eg., mm. gluteus profundus, gastronemius, and gracilis) tenderstetch allowed the muscles fibres to shorten. Some tenderstretched muscles(e.g., m. gluteus profundus, 1.5 ${\mu}m$) appeared not to toughen even at very low sarcomere lengths, while others toughened at higher sarcomere lengths. The current data demonstrated that the effect of tenderstretch on the length of sarcomeres and its influence on palatability varied between muscles, Overall the difference between the two tenderstretch methods was for the aitch method to produce meat that was 3.2 units more palatable than the ligament hanging method.

Headspace hanging drop liquid phase micro-extraction (HS-HD-LPME) is studied as a novel solvent-based sample pretreatment method for floral volatile aroma compounds. This paper reports on application of the HSHD- LPME combined with GC-MS for the analysis of linalool component emitted from evening primrose flowers. The effect of several variables on the method performance was investigated. Additionally, the separation of enantiomers on a cyclodextrin capillary column was performed to identify chirality of (−)-linalool component. Since the unsurpassed volume of a few micro-liters of solvent is used, there is minimal waste or exposure to toxic organic solvents. This method enables to combine extraction, enrichment, clean-up, and sample introduction into a single step prior to the chromatographic process.
A novel sample pretreatment technique, headspace hanging drop liquid phase microextraction (HS-LPME) was studied and applied to the determination of flavors from solid clove buds by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Several parameters affecting on HS-LPME such as organic solvent drop volume, extraction time, extraction temperature and phase ratio were investigated. 1-Octanol was selected as the extracting solvent, drop size was fixed to 0.6 $\mu$L. 60 min extraction time at 25 ${^{\circ}C}$ was chosen. HS-LPME has the good efficiency demonstrated by the higher partition equilibrium constant ($K_{lh}$) values and concentration factor (CF) values. The limits of detection (LOD) were 1.5-3.2 ng. The amounts of eugenol, $\beta$-caryophyllene and eugenol acetate from the clove bud sample were 1.90 mg/g, 1.47 mg/g and 7.0 mg/g, respectively. This hanging drop based method is a simple, fast and easy sample enrichment technique using minimal solvent. HSLPME is an alternative sample preparation method for the analysis of volatile aroma compounds by GC-MS.

Objective : This study was conducted to examine the relationship between the annual changes of suicide methods and suicide rates in South Korea. We compared the suicide methods in South Korea with those in six other OECD countries, Japan, Finland, France, United States, Canada and Australia. Methods : Data of suicide rates and methods since the year 2000 were obtained from the official electronic mortality data published by the seven countries and from the World Health Organization [WHO] mortality database. We compared the correlation between suicide methods and suicidal rates in South Korea using Spearman's correlation test. Results : The proportion of hanging steadily increased, whereas self-poisoning steadily decreased from 2000 to 2011. The increased use of hanging was associated with the increase of suicide rates in South Korea. The preference for jumping as a suicide method in South Korea can be notably compared to that of other countries. Conclusion : Preference use of lethal methods, such as hanging, may play a great role in the increase of suicide rates in South Korea. The limitation of physical and cognitive access to lethal methods can be an effective suicide prevention strategy.
