  • Hangul search functionality, including dictionary search is used in many Hangeul applications. Existing research of hangeul search method is the study of using hangeul syllable as a basic unit. However when you consider the characteristics of Hangul, the research of using hangeul character as a basic unit is needed. In this paper we propose the character based hangeul search method using the location-specific frequency information and verify the effectiveness of the proposed method through the experiments.

  • In this paper, We investigate the search patterns that are applied to the character based word search and make the search algorithm. We used to various hangout coded set that are KS X 1001 hangeul coded set and unicode 3.0 for the character based word search algorithm. In each case, We study of efficiency of algorithms that are related to hangeul coded set.

  • In this paper, we can find a new effective way in the search function of hangeul characters by using frequency of data. Also using a new algorithm suggested in this paper, we made the effective search function of hangeul characters in database.

  • Recently, a name retrieval function is widely used on navigation systems. In this paper, we propose the new dynamic hashing algorithm for a name retrieval function on it. The proposed dynamic hashing algorithm by constructing an index using the variance information of character is the better than existing methods in terms of storage capacity and retrieval speed. The algorithm proposed in this paper can be useful on systems that have limited resources as well as navigation systems.

  • In this paper, a method of separation and recognition of phonemes from a composite Korean character pattern through a state space search strategy which is a problem solving method in artificial intelligence is proposed. To correlate the separating of phonemes with their recognizing, the problem is represented into the state space, on which a search strategy is performed. For the minimization of search area, the structural information based on the composition rules of Korean characters and the positional information of phonemes in the basic forms are used. And the effectiveness of the approach is shown by a computer simulation.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of records related to Korea shown in the cataloging records of national libraries of the main 12 developing countries in Europe and South America. The results are as follows. To begin with, Korea-related records in most national libraries are very poor and under 0.01% of the library. Second, Korean materials usually write Korean in Roman characters except for National Library of Armenia, but there are not marked with the original Korean language and unfeasible Hangeul search. Third, on investigation of the subject distribution in sub criteria of Korea-related records, subject related to history, politics, and economy is largely shown in the highest rate. Fifth, among the Korea-related subject heading, Taekwondo is marked with distinction from Karate in most libraries except for National Library of Argentina. Dokdo is marked with the geographical name of 'Korea' in 8 national libraries and East Sea (Donghae) already is marked with 'Sea of Japan' in 7 national libraries. Amnokgang, Dumangang, and Baekdusan-related records did not search at all in most national libraries.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of records related to Korea shown in the cataloging records of national libraries of the main 10 developing countries in Asia and Africa. The results are as follows. To begin with, Korea-related records in most national libraries are very poor and under 0.1% of the library. Except for National Library of Viet Nam, the figure is under 3,000 volumes and generally 2 times less than Japan related records. Second, except for National Library of Iran and Viet Nam most national libraries romanize Korean materials, there are not marked with the original Korean language and unfeasible Hangeul search. Third, on investigation of the subject distribution in sub criteria of Korea-related records, subject related to history and economy is largely shown in the highest rate. Fifth, among the Korea-related subject heading, Taekwondo is marked with distinction from Karate in most libraries except for 7 national libraries. Dokdo is marked with the geographical name of 'Korea' in 7 national libraries and East Sea (Donghae) already is marked with 'Japan, Sea of' in 7 national libraries. Amnokgang, Dumangang, and Baekdusan-related records did not search at all in most national libraries.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of records related to Korea shown in the cataloging records of major 10 Asia-Pacific university libraries. The results are as follows. To begin with, Korea-related records in most university libraries are very poor except for some libraries and are generally 2 times less than Japan related records. There are even 6 times less in 2 libraries. Second, most libraries organize records in MARC 21 format rather than UNIMARC, and apply subject headings of the national library, or go together with LCSH. Third, Korean materials usually write Korean in Roman characters, but 5 libraries are marked with the original Korean language and available Hangeul search. Forth, on investigation of the subject distribution in sub criteria of Korea-related records, subject related to 'history', 'economy', and 'politics' is largely shown in the highest rate. Fifth, Among the Korea-related subject heading, the terms such as 'Taekwondo', 'Kimchi', 'Dokdo', 'Donghae', 'Duman-gang', 'Baekdu-san' have different meanings in different libraries. However, these terms agree to LCSH in most libraries except for neighboring countries's libraries.
