The Size and Structural factors of The Korean Elementary School Girls' Hands (학령기 여아의 손 치수 및 구조요인 분석)

  • In the current study, we measured the hands and other representative body items of 223 elementary school girls using Martin Anthropometer and a digital camera so that we would be able to provide information on both size and shape of hands for design of hand-related products. As time goes on, hands get bigger, yet they get thinner at the same time. The data implies that the frame of hands grows, but the skin fat lessens, which could be a determinant factor in the size system of hand-related products. According to the results of a factor analysis on 26 hand items, 5 factors including hand laterality and linearity, fingertip shape, finger breadth, and hand depth, have been extracted. Pearson's correlation showed that most of hand-related factors were strongly associated with other body items. Finger breadth and hand depth, however, were found less related to other body items. The ANOVA test used in testing the difference of hand factors showed, in most items, a difference by ages, but there was no significant differences in fingertip breadth, the third factor, Interestingly, in hand depth, the fifth factor, lower grade girls' hands were thicker than higher grade girls'. This research suggests that the size system of uniformly increasing the size of all hand parts by age groups should be reconsidered and leaves much for improvement.

The Effect of Activities using Hands-on Robots on Logic-Mathematical Knowledge and Creative Problem-Solving Ability of Young Children (교구로봇을 활용한 활동이 유아의 논리-수학적 지식과 창의적 문제해결능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Robots are used in early childhood education as a new instructional media, and educational activities using robots have been increased. So the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of educational activities using hands-on robots on logic-mathematical knowledge and creative problem-solving ability of young children. The total number of subjects was 43, and they were all five-year-old children. The experimental group and control group did activities with hands-on robots and general free activities, respectively. Results using ANCONA have shown that the activities with hands-on robots positively affected logic-mathematical knowledge and creative problem-solving ability of young children. These meaningful results have shown the possibility of early childhood educational use as the effectiveness of hands-on robots has come out.

  • A variety of research has been conducted on anthropometric dimensions and their applications to various products and space architecture, Also robust research has been conducted on various parts of human body and the possibility of applications. However, research on the specific dimensions regarding fingers and characteristics of hands have rarely been conducted in Korea. In addition, except for the NASA Anthropometric Source Book that suggests measures for specific purposes such as gloves and hand-operated device, almost no literature can be found on this topic, The primary objective of this study was thus to provide anthropometric dimensions of Korean hands and fingers and recommend appropriate product design solutions for human hands. Six hundred Korean male and female subjects aging from 11 to 93 were selected, Thirteen different hands and fingers were measured along with demographic data(e.g., age, stature, weight} to determine the relationships among these obtained data, The results of this study should be considered in ergonomic design for every hand-used products and hand-operated control devices.

  • This study aimed to clarify the difference between consumers and hands-on staff in evaluation of the attributes importance of asset evaluation attributes and the relationship between difference from consumers and hands-on staff in evaluation of the attributes and the performance. Subjects for the quantitative research, quota sampling was adopted in the areas where the subject brands were in place, and 452 questionnaires (141 of hands-on staff, 311 of consumers) were analyzed. The results were as follows; 1. The factors that hands-on staff and consumers regarded as most important as to asset evaluation attributes of department store-exclusive importation brands included preference and product quality in the order, and then image, recognition, reliability, and country of origin in the case of hands-on staff, and reliability, image, recognition, and country of origin in the case of consumers in the order. 2. As a result of examining the effect of the difference between hands-on staff and consumers regarding exclusive importation brands(GAP, ZARA) of certain department stores on business achievement and consumer attitude, it turned out that the smaller the difference between the two groups with regard to evaluation, the higher the business achievement and consumer attitude.

A Study on Menstrual Pattern of Patients with Cold Hypersensitivity on Hands and Feet (수족냉증 환자의 월경 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Objectives: This study was aimed to analyze clinical characteristics and menstrual pattern of female patients who have cold hypersensitivity on hands and feet. Methods: This study was performed from May, 2018 to April, 2019. We checked the patients' hand and feet's temperature and those who diagnosed with cold hypersensitivity filled in survey. Data were collected from 27 participants and we divided data into 2 group; Dysmenorrhea group and Non-dysmenorrhea group. Results: Throughout the study, we found out differences between 2 groups in age, height, weight, VAS score of cold hypersensitivity on hands and feet, menstrual pattern, upper and lower extremity temperature difference, pattern identification, VAS of menstrual pain, and pattern of leukorrhea. Conclusions: By analyzing of study, Dysmenorrhea group's VAS score of cold hypersensitivity on hands and feet was $6.67{\pm}1.73$, Non-dysmenorrhea group's VAS score of cold hypersensitivity on hands and feet was $7.78{\pm}1.72$ (p-value 0.015). This shows that the degree of hypersensitivity on hands and feet is not necessarily proportional to the degree of menstrual pain.

Effect of Bilateral Arm Movement on Brain and Muscle Activity in Chronic Stroke Patients (양손 운동이 만성 뇌졸중 환자의 뇌활성도와 근활성도에 미치는 영향)

  • PURPOSE: This study investigated the neurophysiological and behavioral adaptation during one or both hands movement in chronic stroke patients. METHODS: The study included sixteen hemiplegic stroke patients. Neurophysiological data (brain activation and muscle activation) were examined by electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG), and behavioral adaptation was examined by wrist extension angle during wrist extension with one hand or both hands. Outcome variables of one hand or both hands were; mu rhythm of the EEG, EMG amplitude of wrist extensor and flexor muscles, and wrist angle of Myomotion 3D motion analysis. RESULTS: Our results revealed that wrist extension angle was significant increased during both hands movement compared to one hand movement (p<.05). Furthermore, in affected sensorimotor area, there was significant increase in the brain activation during both hands movement compared to one hand movement (p<.05). However, there was no significant different between one hand and both hands movement in muscle activation (p>.05). CONCLUSION: According to the findings of this experiment, bilateral arm movement improved brain activity on affected sensorimotor area and wrist extension angle. Therefore, we suggest that bilateral arm movement would positive effect on stroke rehabilitation in terms of increase in brain activation on affected motor area and wrist extension during bilateral arm movement.

Comparison on the Quality and fatigue of hands-Only CPR According to the Presence or Absence of Verbal counting by Some Middle-aged Women (일부 중년 여성에서 구령 유무에 따른 가슴압박소생술의 질과 피로도 비교)

  • According to the comparing the quality and fatigue of Hands-only CPR with counting by middle-aged women who is most likely to witness the cardiac arrest. This paper wants to provide the basic data to establish a CPR education program for the role of the first responders. After conducted three hours of basic life support training, it divided into two 45-persons groups by assignment of probability. 2-minutes research conducted with dummy by dividing into Group-A that counting the number loudly during the Hands-Only CPR, And Group-B that does not counting the number during the Hands-Only CPR. Between the two groups, the quality of Hands-Only CPR does not showed its difference clearly and the downtime of Hands-Only CPR was reduced, Depending on the over time, the frequency that reduces the depth of Hands-Only CPR was also significantly lower. And after the Hands-Only CPR, the fatigability who felt themselves was also significantly lower.

The Connection between Hand Washing and Brushing Teeth

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to identify the connection between handwashing and toothbrushing, focusing on eating habits, and to verify whether eating habits can be used as an action cue for forming health habits. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study using secondary data from the 2019 community health survey. The participants included 229,099 adults aged 19 years or older, representative of the South Korean people. We employed two dependent variables: one was washing hands, and the other was brushing teeth. Eating habits was a major independent variable. Socioeconomic variables, such as age, gender, income, occupation, economic activity, education, and residence were adjusted as confounders. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to calculate adjusted odds ratio and 95% confidence intervals. Results: Most of the participants had good health behaviors: those who wash their hands and brush their teeth were each approximately 80%. Our finding indicated that brushing teeth and washing hands can be connected with eating habits. After adjusting for confounders, it was found that people who wash their hands before meals (compared to those who did not wash their hands before meals) had a higher toothbrushing rate after meals (i.e., socioeconomic status) (Adjusted Odds Ratio: 2.0, Confidence Intervals: 1.9 to 2.1). Conclusion: Those who practice either washing hands before meals or brushing teeth after meals were found to have a connection between washing hands and brushing teeth based on the results of practicing other health behaviors. This implies that eating habits can be connected as a behavior cue to promote health habits, such as washing hands before meals and brushing teeth after meals.

Effects of a Hands-on training on Sea survival knowledge, Shipboard fire-fighting knowledge and Emergency response leadership in Seafarers -Focusing on the Advanced safety training for coastwise vessels under the Seamen Act- (체험 실습 교육이 현직 선원의 해상생존 및 선상소화 지식과 비상대응 리더십에 미치는 효과 -선원법상 국내선 상급안전재교육 중심-)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of a hands-on training regarding maritime safety including abandon ship and fire-fighting as related to sea survival, fire-fighting knowledge and emergency response leadership in seafarers engaged on a seagoing ship. The study was conducted with a nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design. Two hundred-sixty-six participants were assigned to either the experimental group(128) or control group(138). The hands-on training regarding maritime safety included sea survival and fire fighting drill, and it was implemented with the experimental group for two days from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. Data was analyzed using chi-square, t-test and ANCOVA by using IBM SPSS Statistics(version 24) program. The experimental group who had the hands-on training showed significantly higher sea survival knowledge(F=902.32, p<.001), shipboard fire-fighting knowledge(F=1013.76, p<.001) and emergency response leadership(F=1802.62, p<.001) for maritime safety compared with the control group who had traditional education. The results indicate that a hands-on training is an effective teaching method to improve sea survival, fire-fighting knowledge and emergency response leadership in seafarers engaged. Further study is needed to identify the effect of a hands-on training regarding maritime safety according to the environmental changes of seafarers.

A Case Report of Cold Sensitivity of Hands and Feet Patient (수족냉증 환자 치험 1례)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM) on cold sensitivity of hands and feet. And we wanted that cold sensitivity of hands and feet was measured objectively and diagnosed definitely using Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging(DITI). Methods: The patient in this case was a 29-year-old female. The chief complaint was cold sensitivity of hands and feet. We treated her by TKM and evaluated the progress of symptoms by DITI. And then we compared DITI before treatment and after treatment. Results: After TKM treatment, the differences of temperature of hands and feet were decreased on DITI, respectively. Conclusion: TKM treatment is effective on cold sensitivity of hands and feet. And DITI would be valid to measure for treatment's effect of cold sensitivity of hands and feet.
