  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate nurses' knowledge of, and compliance with the multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO) infection control guidelines. Methods: A survey questionnaire was developed based on the institutional and national guidelines and was administered to a convenience sample of 306 nurses in a university hospital. Results: The mean score for knowledge was 33.87 (percentage of correct answers: 82.61%). The percentages of correct answers for basic concepts, route of transmission, hand washing/protective devices and environment management were 74.27%, 94.29%, 92.90% and 75.54% respectively. The mean compliance score was 4.15 (range: 1-5). The compliance scores for education, communication, contact precaution, disinfection, surveillance culture, and hand washing were 3.29, 4.05, 4.20, 4.50, 4.40 and 4.48 respectively. Nurses indicated "lack of time (30.06%)", "lack of means (10.78%)" and "lack of knowledge (9.48%)" as reasons for noncompliance. Conclusion: While most educational programs have focused on hand washing or use of protective devices to prevent transmission of MDRO in acute care settings, hospital nurses' knowledge of the basic concepts of MDRO and environmental management has remained insufficient. Nurses are relatively non-compliant to the guidelines in the areas of education (staff, patient, family) and communication. Comprehensive educational programs are needed to decrease hospital infection rates and to improve the health of patients.

  • The study is to find relative EEG power spectrum and pattern of coherence discriminating attentive and inattentive hand movements. Eight undergraduate students aged from 20 to 27 who had not hand disability participated in this study. Participants were asked to perform visuo-motor task. EEG was measured at C3 in 10~20 international system and four areas orthogonally directed 2.5cm away from C3. Significant result discriminating movement and rest was found through coherence analysis between movement areas or movement area and non-movement area, but was individually different. Because it was anticipated that major factors caused by the differences among individuals were attributed to the attention of the subjects, relative power of alpha and beta bands was identified. As a result, significant relative powers of alpha and beta bands were found in a group of high coherence level, but were not found in a group of low level. Next, participants were divided into two groups according to relative powers of alpha and beta bands. The comparison between two groups was performed. As a result, the coherence of the alpha band in the attentive group was greater than that of the inattentive group. It was found that the coherence of the beta band in the inattentive group was happening. Therefore, individual differences of coherence were influenced by attention. The significant coherence patterns that could discriminate attentive movement and inattentive movement were found.

  • The effect of glucose and 2-thiobarbituric acid on the biosynthesis of cell constituents such as protein, carbohydrate, DNA, RNA, phospholipid and PCA-soluble phosphate compounds in Chlorella duing the life cycle was measured, and the changes in the content of these main cellular components of the algal cell were analyzed in connection with the nuclear and cytoplasmic divison. In the normal autotrophic synchronous culture the contents of protein, RNA, and DNA in the cell showed a chracteristic changes according to the progress of cell development, increasing more or less throughout all the life cycle. The synthesis of protein is more prominent in the division period nad that of DNA is more active in the ripening period, while the synthesis of RNA is more rapid in the growing and ripening periods than other developmental stages. The period of division cycle was little affected by glucose in the medium, although the synchrony of the growth and cellular division was disturbed and the n value increased. The cotents of protein, carbohydrate, RNA nad DNA of the cell were increased by the glucose treatment throughout all the life cycle. On the other hand, both of cellular growth and division were retarded severely and the n value was decreased by the 2-thiobarbituric acid treatment throughout all the life cycle. On the other hand, both of cellular growth and division were retarded severely and the n value was decreased by the 2-thiobarbituric acid treatment. The synthesis of protein, carbohydrate, DNA, RNA and phospholipid of the cell was also retarded by 2-thiobarbituric acid. In the autotrophic, mixotrophic and 2-thiobarbituric acid-treated cultures, each having different mode cytoplasmic division, a common general schema occurring in the cell during the life cycle may be drawn as follows. The ratio of RNA to protein attains maximum value in the $L_1$-cell stage prior to the nuclear division and thereafter decreases during the periods of ripening and division. The ratio of PCA-soluble phosphate compounds to protein increased from the begining of the culture to $L_4$-cell stage successively and thereafter decreased gradually during the division period, while the ratio of protein to DNA kept almost constant up to the division period and thereafter increased during the division period. Therefore, it is presumed that the increase in the ratio of RNA to protein is to be an inducer of nuclear division and that the cytoplasmic division is induced by the increase in the ratio of protein to DNA.

  • This study examined the effects of fetal bovine serum (FBS), goat blood serum (gBS), and poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) on the in vitro development and embryo quality of goats for an improvement of embryo production. For the experiment, an in vitro fertilized embryo culture medium was supplemented with 10% FBS, 10% gBS, and 10% PVA to determine their effects on the embryo development efficiency and blastocyst quality. The results showed that the non-serum supplementation group showed significantly lower cleavage rate and blastocyst formation. On the other hand, the gBS and PVA supplementation groups showed a significant increase in the cleavage rate and better blastocyst formation than the control and FBS supplementation group. Furthermore, a TUNEL assay performed to confirm the blastocyst quality showed the same pattern as the embryo development experiment. These results showed that the supplemented gBS or PVA was more efficient in enhancing the in vitro development efficiency of goats than the supplementation of FBS or non-serum. On the other hand, considering the risk of an unidentified factor in gBS, PVA appears to be safer and more efficient in the in vitro development of goat embryos.

  • A brassier supports and protects breasts and makes a better shape of the upper half of the body through shaping breasts. A brassier, therefore, is recognized as the key underwear for female. Recently, the distribution structure and channels of the brassiere industry is diversified from conventional type of markets to department stores, convenience stores, and internet shopping mall. Studies on the sales of brassieres via internet, however, is not sufficient even though the market size has been dramatically increased thursdays. The study on the size structure (including the size and the materials fabric of brassieres circulating via internet) is especially rare. Therefore, this study tries to comply with increasing requests of consumers through comparing brassier brands on internet. In depth, this study compares cases of Korea and Japan in terms of availability of website on sales, quality indication like materials and functions, and size. The results indicated that there were three companies in Korea which run a website and make a sale through a website. All three Japanese companies operate a website and make sales on a website as well. In terms of size, Korean companies diversify their size of products in two ways. It varies from A cup to D cup based on cup size, and 65 to 100 according to its entire size. On the other hand, Japanese companies use AA, A to I to measure cup size, and 65 to 100 for entire size.

  • This study examined the images and formative features of female characters portrayed in fantasy films. This study aimed at providing an applicable theory to modern fashion by reconsidering the images of women appearing in fantasy films and arranging fantastical features reflected in costumes of female characters. The followings were the results of the study: The first divine nature that human beings discovered was woman nature. The discovered stone worked of the prehistoric age had a meaning of the great mother of universe and expressed a positive image. Such positive images of the goddess were variously differentiated to negative images or reduced in their roles and meanings in the settlement process of patriarchy as well as sociocultural transition. The foremost examples of negative image were expressed as grotesque, destructive, otherness, sensual, and exotic. The positive image of a goddess in fantasy films was not especially emphasized. On the other hand, the negative images of the goddess and the case of costumes were variously expressed as well as emphasized the typicality of the negative image of the characters. It was reconsidered that the typical features of characters in fantasy films were a result of the image of women following sociocultural transition. In addition, it was confirmed that such result was being reflected in film costume.

  • This study carried out empirical analysis of the effect on conspicuous consumption and purchase intention by social face sensitivity of customers who have eaten at luxury restaurants. Adult male and female customers aged 20~60 years who lived in Seoul and who had experience eating at luxury restaurants were selected as survey participants. The results of this study are as follow. First, social face sensitivity factor had a significant effect on preference for famous brands and seeking fashion. On the other hand, among social face sensitivity factors, shame consciousness had a significant effect on other-oriented conspicuous consumption. Thus, the hypothesis was partially accepted. Second, among social face sensitivity factors, other-conscious social face had a significant effect on purchase intention. Thus, the hypothesis was partially accepted. Third, preference for famous brand and seeking fashion had a significant effect on purchase intention. However, other-oriented conspicuous consumption tendency had no effect on purchase intention. Thus, the hypothesis was partially accepted. If studies on various consumption sentiment variables continue to be made, these may be usefully utilized for establishing marketing strategies of companies.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze methods and contents of global Korean food marketing. In-depth interviews were conducted from July to October in 2010 using a qualitative research approach. Government agencies and restaurant companies emphasized well-being and healthy aspects as a Korean food identity. Regarding the marketing contents, government agencies commonly included standard loanword orthography and recipes. On the other hand, restaurant companies contained their own contents differentiated from other brands. Government agencies used CF, video, book and newspaper as communication channels but restaurant companies did not have systematic communication channels. Government agencies attempted to use holding, supporting and participating expositions as communication methods, whereas restaurant companies mainly used sales promotion and point-of-purchase as communication methods.

  • Restaurant managers seeking to maximize revenue should look carefully at how long their tables are occupied and how much the average diner spends. This study examined the effect of the customer's party size on restaurant revenue. The dining periods were divided into 2 types (lunch vs. dinner/weekdays vs. weekends), which were combined to show the average spending per minute (SPM), to determine if the dining periods have measurable effects on the dining duration and average bill. The results show that the dining duration for dinner was much longer than that for lunch and there was no significant difference in dining duration between weekdays and weekends. On the other hand, customers in larger parties at lunch time had a higher SPM than those in smaller parties. A larger customer party size was associated with a longer dining duration for dinner and on weekdays. During all operating periods (lunch, dinner, weekdays, weekends), the party size had a significantly positive effect on the mean spending per minute. For restaurant managers, these findings suggest opportunities to increase revenue and adopt revenue management strategies.
