Various studies examining the relationship between Ezrin overexpression and response to chemotherapy and clinical outcome in patients with osteosarcoma have yielded inconclusive results. We accordingly conducted a meta-analysis of 7 studies (n = 318 patients) that evaluated the correlation between Ezrin and histologic response to chemotherapy and clinical prognosis (death). Data were synthesized in receiver operating characteristic curves and with fixed-effects and random-effects likelihood ratios and risk ratios. Quantitative synthesis showed that Ezrin is not a prognostic factor for the response to chemotherapy. The positive likelihood ratio was 0.538 (95% confidence interval [95% CI], 0.296- 0.979; random-effects calculation), and the negative likelihood ratio was 2.151 (95% CI, 0.905- 5.114; random-effects calculations). There was some between-study heterogeneity, but no study showed strong discriminating ability. Conversely, Ezrin positive status tended to be associated with a lower 2-year survival (risk ratio, 2.45; 95% CI, 1.26-4.76; random-effects calculation) with some between-study heterogeneity that disappeared when only studies that employed immunohistochemistry were considered (risk ratio, 2.97; 95% CI, 2.01- 4.40; fixed-effects calculation). To conclude, Ezrin is not associated with the histologic response to chemotherapy in patients with osteosarcoma, whereas Ezrin positivity was associated with a lower 2-year survival rate regarding risk of death at 2 years. Expression change of Ezrin is an independent prognostic factor in patients with osteosarcoma.
This paper considers option and non-use values of rail services. The total economic value of a given transport service can be classified into use, option and non-use values, other grouping rules can be applied though. The use value is the consumer's surplus from the actual rides of a specific mode. The option value, on the other hand, can be defined as a traveler's willingness to pay for reserving a travel mode, which is not his or her main choice, as a standby alternative. Finally, the non-use value represents benefits that are not attributable to the actual use or option use, but to the vicarious, altruistic, functional and existing worth of a transport service. A stated preference survey based on a double-bounded dichotomous choice is conducted. A survival model is applied to the data collected. Calculations of trip makers' willingness to pay for option and non-use values are based on the parameters of the estimated survival model. Some suggestions for transport appraisal are also presented.

Carbon atoms near the surface of W(110) induce reconstructions such as $R(15{\times}12)$ -C/W(110) which consists of two characteristic parts, one square shaped and bright protrusion and two smaller ones. In the atomic resolution STM image, the bigger protrusion shows the periodicities of clean W(110), indicating that it is almost carbon poor region. The smaller protrusion contains hexagonal carbide surface layer of ${\alpha}$-W2C on W(110). Employing this carburized W(110) as templates, we grow Co and Fe clusters of less than ten atoms. Due to the selectivity of bonding sites, growth of larger cluster is highly unfavorable for Co and the size of clusters is very uniform. Since Co atoms prefer to sit on the bigger protrusion rather than smaller one, Co cluster can be arranged one-dimensionally in $R(15{\times}12)$-C/W(110) with quite uniform size distribution. However, Fe clusters sit on both sites without favored site, but still with uniform size distribution. On the other hand, Fe clusters can be grown with quasi one-dimensional order in $R(15{\times}3)$-C/W(110), which consists of only smaller protrusions. We investigate the magnetic properties of the ordered nano-sized clusters. Experiments using XMCD reveals little magnetic moment of Co cluster on $R(15{\times}12)$-C/W(110). This observation is consistent with the predictions of our first principles calculations that small Co clusters can be nonmagnetic or antiferromagnetic with low mean magnetic moment per atom.

On multimedia databases, in order to realize the fast access method, indexing methods for the multidimension data space are used. However, since it is a premise to use the Euclid distance as the distance measure, this method lacks in flexibility. On the other hand, there are metric indexing methods which require only to satisfy distance axiom. Since metric indexing methods can also apply for distance measures other than the Euclid distance, these methods have high flexibility. This paper proposes an improved method of VP-tree which is one of the metric indexing methods. VP-tree follows the node which suits the search range from a route node at searching. And distances between a query and all objects linked from the leaf node which finally arrived are computed, and it investigates whether each object is contained in the search range. However, search speed will become slow if the number of distance calculations in a leaf node increases. Therefore, we paid attention to the candidates selection method using the triangular inequality in a leaf node. As the improved methods, we propose a method to use the nearest neighbor object point for the query as the datum point of the triangular inequality. It becomes possible to make the search range smaller and to cut down the number of times of distance calculation by these improved methods. From evaluation experiments using 10,000 image data, it was found that our proposed method could cut 5%~12% of search time of the traditional method.
Infrared absorption spectra of alkyl alcohols in the OH stretching region were obtained from varying the concentrations of alcohols in $CCl_4$. The OH stretching bands were broadened and shifted to lower frequencies due to the hydrogen-bond formation. Three bands were obtained from the breakdown of these bands by the simplex method. Each band was assigned to various types of hydrogen-bonded OH groups. The electronic structures and interaction energies of dimeric and trimeric alcohols were calculated by semi-empirical MO(CNDO/2, INDO) methods. These results were in good agreement with those of deconvoluted ir spectra. The EDA(electron donor-acceptor) effect of alkyl group on hydrogen-bond formation was in the decreasing order of butyl > propyl > ethyl > methyl group. On the other hand, the experimental results were in the order : propyl > ethyl > butyl > methyl group. This seemed to be ascribed to the bulkiness of butyl alcohol.

Background: Methodologies for a series of radiological consequence assessments show a distinctive difference according to the design principles of the original nuclear suppliers and their technical standards to be imposed. This is due to the uncertainties of the accidental source term, radionuclide behavior in the environment, and subsequent radiological dose. Both types of PWR and PHWR are operated in Korea. However, technical standards for evaluating atmospheric dispersion have been enacted based on the U.S. NRC's positions regardless of the reactor types. For this reason, it might cause a controversy between the licensor and licensee of a nuclear power plant. Materials and Methods: It was modelled under the framework of the NRC Regulatory Guide 1.145 for light-water reactors, reflecting the features of heavy-water reactors as specified in the Canadian National Standard and the modelling features in MACCS2, such as atmospheric diffusion coefficient, ground deposition, surface roughness, radioactive plume depletion, and exposure from ground deposition. Results and Discussion: An integrated accident consequence assessment code, ACCESS (Accident Consequence Assessment Code for Evaluating Site Suitability), was developed by taking into account the unique regulatory positions for reactor types under the framework of the current Korean technical standards. Field tracer experiments and hand calculations have been carried out for validation and verification of the models. Conclusion: The modelling approaches of ACCESS and its features are introduced, and its applicative results for a hypothetical accidental scenario are comprehensively discussed. In an applicative study, the predicted results by the light-water reactor assessment model were higher than those by other models in terms of total doses.
Crystal structure of $Ba_5-5X$Y$_10/3$Nb$_10$O$_30$ was tried to determine by Rietveld analysis using powder X-ray diffraction data. This compound has tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) structure with general formula, (Al)$_2$(A2)$_4$(B1)$_2$(B2)$_8$(O1)$_8$(O2)$_8$(O3)$_4$(O4)$_2$(O5)$_4$(O6)$_4$. However, it was difficult to determine the distribution of Ba and Y in Al and A2 sites by the analysis only. Combination of Rietveld analysis and site potentials calculation as well as lattice energy calculations helped to determine the distribution. As the result, it was clarified that $Ba^2+$ cations occupy A2 (pentagonal tunnel site) and $Y^3+$ cations occupy Al (cubic site). The distribution of cations at each site coincides with the distribution estimated by the difference of ionic radii. This supports the formation condition of TTB which was proposed in our previous report. $Ba_5-5X$Y$_10X/3$Nb$_10$O$_30$ shows ferroelectric characteristics. In this compound, remanent polarization decreases slightly with the composition X. On the other hand, the result of crystal structure determination reveals that atomic positions along c-axis for A1, A2, B1 and B2 cations are also decreased with the composition X. This would suggest that the dependence of remanent polarization on composition X is derived by the dependence of atomic coordinates on composition X.
Traditional acceptance sampling plans have focused on the proportion of nonconforming items as an attribute criterion for quality. In today's modern quality management under high quality production environments, the reduction of the deviation from a target value in a quality characteristic has become the most important purpose. In consequence, various inspection plans for the purpose of reducing the deviation from the target value in the quality characteristic have been investigated. In this case, a concept of the quality loss evaluated by the deviation from the target value has been accepted as the variable evaluation criterion of quality. Further, some quality measures based on the quality loss have been devised; e.g. the process loss and the process capability index. Then, as one of inspection plans based on the quality loss, the rigorous design procedure for the variable sampling plan having desired operating characteristics (VS-OC plan) indexed by the quality loss has been proposed by Yen and Chang in 2009. By the way, since the estimator of the quality loss obeys the non-central chi-square distribution, the rigorous design procedure for the VS-OC plan indexed by the quality loss is complicated. In particular, the rigorous design procedure for the VS-OC plan requires a large number of the repetitive and complicated numerical calculation about the non-central chi-square distribution. On the other hand, an approximate design procedure for the VS-OC plan has been proposed before the proposal of the above rigorous design procedure. The approximate design procedure for the VS-OC plan has been constructed by combining Patnaik approximation relating the non-central chi-square distribution to the central chi-square distribution and Wilson-Hilferty approximation relating the central chi-square distribution to the standard normal distribution. Then, the approximate design procedure has been devised as a convenient procedure without complicated and repetitive numerical calculations. In this study, through some comparisons between the rigorous and approximate design procedures, the applicability of the approximate design procedure has been confirmed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the changes in electroencephalogram (EEG) coherence and brain wave activity for first-person perspective action observation (1AO) and third-person perspective action observation (3AO) of healthy subjects. Methods: Thirty healthy subjects participated in this study. EEG was simultaneously recorded during the Relax period, the 1AO, and the 3AO, with event-related desynchronization (ERD) and coherence connectivity process calculations for brain wave (alpha, beta and mu) rhythms in relation to the baseline. Results: Participants showed increased coherence in beta wave activity in the frontal and central areas (p<0.05), during the 1AO using right-hand activity. Conversely, the coherence of the alpha wave decreased statistically significantly decreased in the frontocentral and parieto-occipital networks during the observation of the 1AO and the 3AO. The ERD values were larger than 40% for both central regions but were slightly higher for the C4 central region. The high relative power of the alpha wave during 1AO and 3AO was statistically significantly decreased in the frontal, central, parietal, and occipital regions. However, the relative power of the beta wave during 1AO and 3AO was statistically significantly increased in the parietal and occipital regions. Especially during 1AO, the relative power of the beta wave in the C3 area was statistically significantly increased (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that 1AO and 3AO action observations are relevant to modifications of specific brain wave coherence and ERD values. EEG cortical activity during action observation may contribute to neural reorganization and to adaptive neuroplasticity in clinical intervention.

In this paper, 2-DOF vehicle suspension system with a semiactive on-off damper was studied for improving the ride comfort. It is known that a nonlinear hydraulic damper, which generates force proportional to the square of the relative velocity, can describe the actual fluid resisting type damper more properly than the traditional viscous damping model. On the other hand, hydraulic damper adoption in analysis makes the system nonlinear and causes difficulties to get the system response. In this work, time domain direct integration method was used to calculate system displacement and acceleration. first of all, the response of the suspension system experiencing a given road profile was optimized by Lagrangian multiplier method within the range of given damping coefficients. The appropriate on-loaf damping values were obtained by averaging the already calculated optimum damping coefficients from Lagrangian techniques. The criterion to control the on-off mechanism was determined by examining the suspension efficiency. It was found that the best out of practically applicable criteria is following the sign (positive and negative) of the multiplication of relative displacement and velocity. Judging from the theoretical calculations, it was proved that the semiactive on-off damper can increase suspension efficiency as much as 8-11% in object function.
