Modern people express their beauty through hair coloring, but hair can be damaged by repeated chemical treatments. In order to increase the durability of dyeing and minimize the hair damage, in this study, the acidic amino acids including aspartic acid (Asp) and glutamic acid (Glu) were used to post-treat hair during hair coloring. The post-treatment with 0.75% Asp and Glu solution was carried out at room temperature for 20 minutes after dyeing bleached hair with cherry red and blue silver colors. After repeated shampooing of 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 times, L*a*b* value of dyed hair was measured to confirm the dyeing durability, and the changes in tensile strength, porosity, and surface properties of the hair were also analyzed to determine the condition of the hair. In the case of cherry red and blue silver staining, the Asp and Glu experimental group showed higher color persistence than the control group, and the Asp and Glu experimental group showed higher tensile strength, lower porosity and smooth surface properties than the control group. In particular, the Asp test group showed superior color persistence and lower hair damage than the Glu test group. This study, therefore, if damaged in dyeing and bleaching in the field of hair after treatment with asp glu a combination of hair cosmetics in the development of basic data look forward to be.
The ultrastructure of damaged hair shaft from blow-drying at typical temperature $40{\sim}170^{\circ}C$ for daily beautiful face have been investigated by using transmission electron microscope and scanning electron microscope. When we used to hair dryer for a long time in our everyday life, the following morphological alternations were found in hair. First, the partial of scales in outer cuticle were detached simultaneously with separation of intercellular membrane complex of cuticle cells. Then hair broke cuticle off and exposed to cortex. Secondly, the cortical cell in the cortex was fissured into its macrofibril. The melanin granules were scattered between macrofibrils. As a result, I confirmed that blow-drying removed the hair's bonded water and made hard on hair which lost elasticity. After all, hair showed irregular, rough surface and vanished its luster.
The feasibility of earthworm protease as a new cosmetic material for human hair care was investigated. The effectiveness of the earthworm protease treatment was assessed by thickness change of hairs, optical microscope examination, aminoacid analysis, surface morphology, angular resolution analysis through methylene blue staining method and tensile strength change. The protease treated hair became thinner and the soil on the surface removed in experimental groups unlike control group. Tensile strength decreased in experimental group in which the enzymes may decompose polypeptide bonds.

Measured the chromaticity and thickness according to kinds of curly hair and chemical treatment with Spectrum colormeter and Micrometer. Measured the tensile strength of hair then calculated the damage rate. After tensile test, took photographs of the section and surface with the electron microscope.
Studies were Performed to determine whether the water fraction of Panax ginseng Protected radiation damage to hair medullar cells of N:GP(s) mice after in vivo irradiation with $^{60}Co{\;}{\gamma}-rays$. The hair follicles in the middle of the growth cycle were analysed 3 days after 3 Gy irradiation for the changes in the number of cells in the forming medulla of the hair in the region just above the germinal matrix of the growing (anagen) hair follicle. The radioprotective effect of ginseng was compared with the irradiation control. The medullar cell count per unit length ($100{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$) of hair follicle was higher in the pretreated-groups of ginseng, both oral (2 mg/ml of drinking water, p<0.05) and intraperitoneal (0.3 mg/head, p<0.001) treatments, than the irradiation control. These data suggested that the water fraction of Panax ginseng may reduce cell damages on the body surface caused by ${\gamma}-rays$.

Recently, it has been reported that chemical hair coloring can cause allergic reactions, the toxicity issue of chemical hair color was issued. Therefore, there is an increasing interest in the hair coloration technique using non-toxic and bio-compatible hair color gotten from natural resource. In this study, the possibility using fermented Indigo as natural hair coloring agent was investigated. Bleached hair samples were dyed using Indigo, and the effect of dyeing frequency, the physical change after dyeing, color, surface and cross-section characteristics, and tensile property were also studied. In addition, the protection property of cationic detergent finishing on damaged hair samples were also studied. The following conclusions are made; 1. While bleached hair samples with low value showed the negligible effect of repeated dyeing, bleached hair samples with high value showed the good effect of repeated dyeing. 2. Hair sample dyed with Indigo showed a high light-fastness, however, tensile strength and elongation showed very low values (high damage on hair sample). 3. Cationic detergent finishing did not affect on the colorfastness because of decoloration after dyeing, however, it increased the smoothness of hair sample, and therefore, can use as protectant of damaged hair. 4. Hair scale was damaged after dyeing. It seemed that the alkali, potassium carbonate, increased pH of dyeing bath to 11, as a result, the hair was swollen, weaken, and dissolved on the prolonged dyeing time. Dyed hair sample became stiff and fine. 5. The color difference was 4.62 (a high fastness value) in the test of sunlight exposure, shampoo, cationic detergent finishing, and acid perspiration fastness.

This study was conducted to assess the effect of heptapeptide, composed of seven amino acids, on the activation of human hair cells isolated from human hair follicles. We have confirmed that the heptapeptide could bind to Lgr5 from the results of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analysis. Heptapeptide enhanced the proliferation of human hair follicle dermal papilla cells (HHFDPCs) in a dose dependent manner. It induced the protein level of nuclear β-catenin, and the expressions of β-catenin downstream target genes, including LEF1, Cyc-D1 and c-Myc, in HHFDPCs. Heptapeptide significantly induced the phosphorylation of Akt and ERK, and the mRNA expressions of growth factors, including hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), in HHFDPCs. In addition, heptapeptide significantly increased mRNA expression levels of differentiation-related transcription factors of human hair germinal matrix cells (HHGMCs) and differentiation markers of human hair outer root sheath cells (HHORSCs). Additionally, we investigated the effect of heptapeptide on human hair follicle stem cells (HHFSCs) differentiation and found that the heptapeptide reduced the mRNA and protein levels of stem cell markers, while it increased those levels of differentiation markers. These results have indicated that the heptapeptide promotes proliferation or differentiation of various types of hair follicle constituent cells through the induction of Wnt/β-catenin signaling. From the results, we have suggested that the heptapeptide in this study could be applied as a new functional material for the improvement of hair growth and alopecia.
The goal of this study is to provide beauticians with the fundamental material to use effectively heat permanent wave in beauty industry as well as their customer's satisfaction. It carried out an experiment with damaged hair of a woman in her late twenties to investigate the change of physical and morphological characteristics by its water content when performing heat permanent wave. After spreading 0g, 1g, 2g, 3g, and 4g of water on damaged hair respectively, heat permanent wave was treated and the change of hair was observed. The change of physical characteristic was compared through permanent wave form of hair, tensile strength and elongation. The change of morphological characteristic was observed through Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope(TEM). The result of experiment on the physical specificity revealed that permanent wave form was the most ideal when the water content was 2g, also 3g. Though the materials with much moisture content formed the results were not satisfied. The material with 0g of water content didn't make the wave. In terms of tensile strength and elongation, tensile strength was generally reduced as per the damaged degree of hair. On the contrary, elongation was increased. It observed the changes of morphological characteristic that the damage on hair cuticle was deepen, as its moisture content was decreased, and cuticle's surface was worn away. The observation of fine structure on hair section by transmission electronic microscope also certainly showed the result that damaged hair having experience with chemical treatment had got much damaged to hair cuticle as well as hair cortex. Generally chemical treatment makes hair damaged. Under consideration of this aspect, the ultimate goal of this thesis is to minimize the damage of hair caused by chemical treatment and get the satisfaction on the hair style. According to the result of experiment, the damaged hair whose moisture content was 3g showed the best permanent wave form.
The current study aimed to find the effects of hair treatment with shea butter on bleached hair and hair protection. The agent for hair treatment with shea butter was developed in different concentration levels (0%,1%,3%,5%) for experimentation. After applying the agent to bleached hair, hair samples were evaluated as follows. Increase in hair thickness was highest in the hair sample that had 5% of shea butter. The amount of amino acids was also highest in the hair sample that contained 5% of shea butter. Comparing the difference of the surface color, hair sample with 5% of shea butter showed low level of L⁎ while the level of a⁎ value that reflects the redness was high and the level of b⁎ value that reflects yellowness was low. Observation through the scanning microscope confirmed the positive effects by showing smoother surfaces in the sample with shea butter than in the bleached hair. This study showed shea butter is considered to be cosmetics to protect damaged hair by bleaching.
The preservative condition and ultrastructure on the mummified hair collected from newly found female mummy in Paju, were investigated by using scanning and transmission electron microscopes. The female mummy was found in september, 2002 during the traditional reburial process for the buried ones. The hair of 16th century mummy showed very intact appearances during observation with electron microscope. And the structures of the cortex, medulla and cuticle were well preserved. The cuticle layer was easily discernable, which are composed of six to seven cuticular cells. Each cuticular cells surrounded and thus seperated from its neighbors by intercellular membrane complex. In the cortex, many macrofibrils and some melanin granules between them were observed. We observed well preserved rod form macrofibrils running parallel along the direction of hair shaft. Especially, melanin granules were aggregated in the cortex which was adjacent to the cuticlu layer. As to the cause for the well-preservation of 440 year old hair sample, the presence of surface coat on the hair, which are composed of various materials. As calcium was included in the surface coat in Electron Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), the hardening process of the surface coat by calcium might inhibit the water or microorganism infiltration into the hair.
