To evaluate the algicidal impact of a newly developed algicide thiazolidinedione derivative, TD49, on dinophyceae Akashiwo sanguinea in aquatic ecosystems, tentative culture experiments for the target species were conducted in small (SS), middle (MS), and large scale (LS) culture vessels. When TD49 was introduced at the final concentration of $2{\mu}M$ in SS and MS, as well as $1{\mu}M$ in LS, the abundance of A. sanguinea decreased significantly in all the treatments. On the other hand, total phytoplankton abundance, except A. sanguinea in the TD49 treatments, gradually increased with culture time, which implies that a cell destruction of A. sanguinea by TD49 is a major cause of the population growth by other phytoplankton species. Also, A. sanguinea was easily destroyed, which was likely to be a source of extracellular substances. In particular, a pH decrease was significant in the treatments than in the control, which indicates that the water in the treatments has been acidified, due to an increase in the heterotrophic metabolisms of bacteria and degradation of A. sanguinea cells. Our results indicate that the TD49 substance is the potential agents for the control of A. sanguinea in the enclosed and eutrophic water bodies.
For the screening and the development of the new bio-material, cultural conditions for the exo-biopolymer (EBP) production throught the submerged cultivation of Ganoderma lucidum mycelium were investigated. Also, the fractionations and the purifications of the exo-biopolymer were carried out and the chemical compositions of the exo-biopolymer were examined. The optimal culture conditions for the exo-biopolymer production were pH 5.0, 30$^{\circ}C$ and 100 rpm of agitation speed in the medium containing of 5% (w/v) glucose, 0.5%(w/v) yeast extract, 0.1% (w/v) ($(NH_4)_2HPO_4$, and 0.05% (w/v) $KH_2PO_4$. In the flask cultivation for 7 days under these conditions, the concentration of the maximum exo-biopolymer and the cell mass were 15.4g/l and 18.8g/l, respectively. The specific growth rate was 0.039 $hr^{-1}$. In addition, the substrate consumption rate, and the exo-biopolymer production rate were 0.043$gg^{-1}$$hr^{-1}$ and 0.025$gg^{-1}$$hr^{-1}$, respectively. The exo-biopolymer was fractionated into BWS (water soluble exo-biopolymer) and BWI (water insoluble exo-biopolymer) by the water extraction, and the sugar contents of two fractions were higher than 97% (based on dry basis). The components sugar of BWS and BWI fractions were glucose, galactose, mannose, xylose, and fucose. Their molar ratios were 3.6:1.5:2.1:0.5: trace and 2.9:3.1:2.0:1.6:0.3, respectively.
In this study, the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent for polydispersed aerosol during dynamic processes was investigated. Log-normal aerosol size distribution was assumed, and a sensitivity analysis of the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent with regards the coagulation and condensation process was performed. The ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent is expected to decrease because of the particle growth due to coagulation and condensation. However, it is difficult to quantify the degree of change. In order to understand quantitatively the change in the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent during coagulation and condensation, different real and imaginary parts of the refractive index were considered. The results show that the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent is sensitive to changes in size distribution and refractive index. The total number concentration decreases and the geometric mean diameter of aerosols increase during coagulation. On the while, the geometric standard deviation approaches monodispersed size distribution during the condensation process, and this change in size distribution affects the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent. The degree of change in the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent depends on the refractive index and initial size distribution, and the size parameter changes with the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent for a given refractive index or chemical composition; this indicates that the size distribution plays an important role in determining the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent as well as the chemical composition. Subsequently, this study shows how the ${\AA}$ngstrom exponent changes quantitatively during the aerosol dynamics processes for a log-normal aerosol size distribution for different refractive indices; the results showed good agreement with the results for simple analytic size distribution solutions.
Seventy eight bacterial strains were isolated from several jeotgals using MRS and M 17 agar media. The probiotic properties such as tolerance of extreme growth condition, production of antimicrobial compound, production of hydrogen peroxide, and enzymatic activity of bile salt hydrolase were investigated. DHK 4, 10, 21 and 74 strains showed_a strong tolerance property against extreme conditions such as low pH and 0.5% oxgall-supplemented medium. DHK 10 and 47 strains produced hydrogen peroxide on TMB agar plate. DHK 8 and 10 strains produced antimicrobial compounds onto MRS agar against E. facalis. DHK 4, 6, 21, 29, 33, 63 and 87 strains had high activities of bile salt hydrolase. Especially, DHK 10 displayed a strong probiotic candidate; the abilities to produce the antimicrobial compound, hydrogen peroxide, and bile salt hydrolase. All these strains are assumed to be useful probiotic candidates. Among 78, twenty seven strains which have probiotic properties were tentatively identified by 16S rRNA sequencing. Among them, 7 Lactobacillus spp., 6 Leuconosotoc spp., 2 Weisella spp., 1 Pediococcus sp., 1 Staphylococcus sp., 1 Enterococcus sp. and 2 Streptococcus spp. were tentatively identified.

This studies conducted to investigates shelf-life of fresh pork chop by using various packaging method such as aerobic packaging, aerobic packaging with lactobacilli, vacuum packaging and vacuum packaging with lactobacilli. Bacteriological and physicochemical proper ties of fresh pork chop were also investigated during storage at $4^{\circ}C$. The effect of lactobacilli treatment showed significantly in aerobic packaging and vacuum pactaging. The growth of lactobacilli did not occur in lactobacilli inoculated fresh pork chops. The gram-negative bacteria which caused to meat spoilage was inhibited by lactobacilli. The PH of Pork showed increasing tendancy regardless of treatments, TBA and VBN value appeared to be relatively low during storage at $4^{\circ}C$. The maximum shelf life of each treatments was 12-15 days of aerobic packaging. 20-25 days of vacuum packaging and aerobic packaging with lactobacilli and 30-35 days of vacuum pactaging with lactobacilli at $4^{\circ}C$ respectively.
Sixteen pigs from 2 distinct genetic lines (LGAH and VFIL) obtained after eight generations of divergent selection for high (H) and low (L) lean tissue growth rate with ad-libitum feeding (LGA) and voluntary feed intake (VF1), respectively, were used in this study. The objectives of this investigation were to establish appropriate working conditions for the postheparin plasma lipoprotein lipase (LPL) assay and to study relationships between fat deposition and plasma lipids, very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) lipids, VLDL-subfractions and postheparin plasma LPL activity in growing pigs. Four preliminary experiments were performed to determine the appropriate working conditions for the postheparin plasma LPL assays. Postheparin plasma preincubated with SDS (20-50 mM) at $26^{\circ}C$ for 45 minutes inhibited hepatic lipase activity. A total of $2{\mu}l$ VLDL/assay produced maximum stimulation of LPL activity. Postheparin plasma protein and increasing incubation time contributed an optimum response. LGAH pigs had a significantly higher proportion subtraction 2 than VFIL pigs. No differences were observed in postheparin plasma LPL activity and backfat thickness for two lines of pigs. There were positive correlations between backfat thickness and proportion of subtractions 2 and postheparin plasma LPL activity but the results were not statistically significant. Backfat thickness was not statistically correlated with proportion of subtraction 2 and postheparin plasma LPL activity in a multiple regression analysis. It is believed that the apolipoprotein E, which is present in higher quantities in VLDL-subfraction 2 plays an important role for clearing VLDL triacylglycerol into adipose tissue. LPL activity of pigs can be measured by using postheparin plasma technique. If the relationships of backfat thickness and VLDL-subfraction 2 and postheparin plasma LPL activity can be established, it suggests that these parameters could be used as indicators in selection programmes. Further experiments need to be conducted by using larger sample size and different breed of pigs with greater differences in backfat thicknesses to confirm these trends.
This work was undertaken to study the effect of dietary fat source on the fatty acid profile of pork, and to evaluate the effect of inclusion of vitamin E in pig diets on lipid oxidation of pork tissue and processed pork products. Fifty-six pigs were allocated to four treatments, that included two dietary fat sources and two levels of vitamin E inclusion. Dietary fat was derived from either tallow, a source of saturated fatty acids (SFA), or from a mixture of soybean and linseed oils, which contain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Vitamin E was included at either 0% or 0.011% of the diet. Growth and carcass characteristics were not affected by the dietary treatments. Dietary fat source affected the fatty acid profile of the longissimus muscle and subcutaneous fat tissue, with the PUFA diet resulting in significantly more polyunsaturated fatty acids in the tissues, and more favourable ratios of SFA to PUFA and C18:2 to C18:3 in terms of human health considerations. Lipid oxidation was significantly greater in tissues and processed products from PUFA-fed pigs. Inclusion of vitamin E in the diets, however, reduced the extent of lipid oxidation in the meat and meat products. Dietary manipulation of the fatty acid profile of pigs is an effective means of altering the fat composition of pork in order to provide human consumers with a healthy product. Vitamin E is effective as an antioxidant agent, particularly where processed products are concerned.

The fatigue behavior of GFRP composites is affected by environmental parameters. Therefore, we have to study on effect of sea water on fatigue behavior of GFRP composites as to maintain the safety and confidence in design of ocean structure of GFRP. In this paper, we investigated the fatigue properties of chopped strand glass mat/polyester composite in synthetic sea water. (pH 8.2) In case of the glass fiber (CSM type) reinforced polyester composite materials, the fatigue crack in the both dry and wet specimens tested in air or synthetic sea water occurred at the initial of cycle. Thereafter, it was divided with two regions that one decreased with the crack extension and the other increased with the crack extension. The transition point occurred during the crack propagation shifted to high ${\Delta}K$ value as load increase but its point is not changed regardless of immersion or test environment under a constant load. The synthetic sea water degrades the bond strength between fiber and matrix, thereby the tendency of rapid deceleration and acceleration of the crack growth was appeared.
Strptomyces albus T-12 which ahd been isolated and identified in the laboratory, was selected for the studies on the cultural conditions on the production of D-xylose iosmerase and the enzymological characteristics using the partially purified enzyme. The best results in the enzyme production came from D-xylose medium than wheat bran. The divalent metla ions as $Co^{2+},\;Fe^{2+},\;Zn^{2+}\;and\;Cu^{2+}$ retard or inhibit the cell-growth at the early stages of mycelia propagations, and T-12 strain is especially sensitive to $Co^{2+}$. After 60 hours of shaking cultivation at $30^{\circ}C$ and 200 rpm, a maximum enzyme activitz, 0.49 enzyme units, was obtained. Cell-free enzyme obtained from mycelia heat-treated in the prescence of 0.5mM $Co^{2+}$, showed a 2.4-fold increase in specific than the enzyme from untreated mycelia. The specific activity of the purified enzyme through Sephadex G-150 columm showed 180 fold to the crude enzyme. The effective activators of the enzyme appeared to be $Mg^{2+}\;and\;Co^{2+}$ ions, and it exhibited the maximal enzyme activity showed at pH 7.0 and at tempersture around $80^{\circ}C$ when $Mg^{2+}\;and\;Co^{2+}$ ions were added. The enzyme isomerized D-glucose, D-xylose, D-ribose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, and L-rhamnose in the present of $Mg^{2+}\;and\;Co^{2+}$ ions as an activatiors. $Mg^{2+}\;and\;Co^{2+}$ ions were non-competitively bound at different allosterix sites of enzyme molecule. $Mg^{2+}(5mM)\;or\;Co^{2+}(1.0mM)$ protected against the thermal denaturations of the enzyme activities. The michelis constant(Km) and $V_{max}$ values of the emzyme for D-glucose and D-xylose were 0.52M, $2.12{\mu}moles/ml{\cdot}min.\;and\;0.28M,\;0.65moles/ml{\cdot}min.$, respectively.
By the successive enrichment culture, more than 250 methanol-utilizing bacteria were isolated from various samples such as soil, waste water and sewage. Two strains of which were selected and tentatively identified as Acinetobacter sp. and Pseudomonas sp. experiments were carried out to determine the growth conditions for the higher biomass yield and to demonstrate the difference to protein composition dependent upon carbon sources of these two species. the results were as follows ; 1. the optimum pH was determined as 8 in the both species. The optimum temperature in Acinetobacter sp. was $25^{\circ}C{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ and pseudomonas sp. was $30^{\circ}C-35^{\circ}C$. The optimum initial concentration of mthanol was determined as 1-2% in Acinetobacter sp. and 2-3% in pseudomonas sp. 2. The optimum concnetrations of nitrogen source, micro-elements, and vitamins such as biotin and thiamine-HCl in Acnetobactar sp. were 1g $(NH_4)_3SO4,\;1{\sim}3mg\;Mn^{++},\;4mg\;Fe^{++},\;10{\mu}g\;biotin,\;and\;100{\mu}g$ thiamine-HCl per liter medium. In the Pseudomonas sp., 2g $(NH_4)_3SO4,\;1mg\;Mn^{++},\;trace\;amounts\;of\;Fe^{++},\;5{\mu}g\;biotin,\;and\;100{\mu}g$ thiamine HCl per liter were effective. Maximum biomass yield was 2.5g/l in Acinetobacter sp. and 4.8g/l in Pseudomonas sp. 3. Protein composition of the two strains exhibited that alkai-labile protein was higher than alkali-stable protein. In Pseudomonas sp., the contents of acid soluble fraction and alkali-stable protein of the cells grown in the methanol medium were higher than in sucrose medium. On the other hand, in Acinetobacter sp., alkalilabile protein of the cells grown in sucrose medium was higher than in methanol medium.
