In this presentation I will review the expanding thermal plasma chemical vapour deposition (ETP-CVD) technology, a deposition technology capable of reaching ultrahigh deposition rates. High rate deposition of a-Si:H, ${\mu}c$-Si:H, a-SiNx:H and silicon nanocrystals will be discussed and their various applications, mainly for photovoltaic applications demonstrated. An important aspect over the years has been the fundamental investigation of the growth mechanism of these films. The various in situ (plasma) and thin film diagnostics, such as Langmuir probes, retarding field analyzer, (appearance potential) mass spectrometry and cavity ring absorption spectroscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry to name a few, which were successfully applied to measure radical and ion density, their temperature and kinetic energy and their reactivity with the growth surface. The insights gained in the growth mechanism provided routes to novel applications of the ETP-CVD technology, such as the ultrahigh high growth rate of silicon nanorystals and surface passivation of c-Si surfaces.

During the growth of macroscopically dislocation-free Czochralski silicon crystal, micro precipitates causing stacking faults in the silicon wafer during the oxidation are formed Thermal history the cryscausing acquire during the growth process is known to be a key factor determining the nucleation of this micro precipitates. In this article, various mechanisms suggested on the formation of microdefects in the silicon crystal are reviewed to secure the nucleation mechanism of the micro precipitates causing OSF whose pattern is normally ring or annular in CZ silicon crytal. B-defects which are known as vacancy clustering are considered to be the heterogeneous nucleation sites for the micro precipitates causing OSF in the CZ silicon crystals.
A new computer simulation method for film growth, the kinetic Monte Carlo simulation in combination with the results obtained from molecular dynamics simulation for the transient process induced by deposited atoms, was developed. The behavior of energetic atom in Au/Au(100) thin film deposition was investigated by the method. The atomistic mechanism of energetic atom deposition that led to the smoothness enhancement and the relationship between the role of transient process and film growth mechanism were discussed. We found that energetic atoms cannot affect the film growth mode in layer-by-layer at high temperature. However, at temperature of film growth in 3-dimensional mode and in quasi-two-dimensional mode, energetic atoms can enhance the smoothness of film surface. The enhancement of smoothness is caused by the transient mobility of energetic atoms and the suppression for the formation of 3-dimensional islands.

(1) The solute distribution mechanism was analyzed for the Si0.95Ge0.05 single crystal fiber by u-PD method. (2) The steady-state solutions were obtained for the molten zone and the capillary zone. (3) The effect of the convection in the molten zone on partitioning was not significant for many cases. (4) Intermediate transient rise of Ge was shown by the sudden change of the growth velocity or molten zone height. (5) Periodic compositional modulation can be designed by using the intermediate transient.

We present theoretical investigations of the self-assembled growth of one-dimensional (1D) molecular lines directed across the dimer rows on the H-terminated Si(001) surface [1]. Based on density-functional theory calculations, a new growth mechanism of the 1D acetylacetone line is proposed [2], which involves the radical chain reaction initiated at two dangling-bond sites on one side of two adjacent Si dimers. It is also enabled that, if an H-free Si dimer were employed as the initial reaction site, a 1D acetylacetone line can grow along the dimer row. Our findings represent the first insight into the growth of 1D molecular lines not only across but also along the dimer rows on the H-terminated Si(001) surface.

The flame structure and soot formation in the counterflow Ethylene-Air nonpremixed flame are numerically analyzed. The present soot reaction mechanism involves nucleation, surface growth, particle coagulation, and oxidation steps. The gas phase chemistry and the soot nucleation, surface growth reactions are coupled by assuming that the nucleation and soot mass growth has the certain relationship with the concentration of benzene and acetylene. In terms of the centerline velocity and the soot volume fraction, the predicted results are compared with the experimental data. The detailed discussion has been made for the sensitivity of model constants and the deficiencies of the present model. Numerical results indicated that the acetylene addition to the soot surface plays the dominant role in the soot mass growth for the counterflow nonpremixed flame.
Phytobiotics, also known as phytochemicals or phytogenics, have a wide variety of biological activities and have recently emerged as alternatives to synthetic antibiotic growth promoters. Numerous studies have reported the growth-promoting effects of phytobiotics in chickens, but their precise mechanism of action is yet to be elucidated. Phytobiotics are traditionally known for their antioxidant activity. However, extensive investigations have shown that these compounds also have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and transcription-modulating effects. Phytobiotics are non-nutritive constituents, and their bioavailability is low. Nonetheless, their beneficial effects have been observed in several tissues or organs. The health benefits of the ingestion of phytobiotics are attributed to their antioxidant activity. However, several studies have revealed that not all these benefits could be explained by the antioxidant effects alone. In this review, I focused on the bioavailability of phytobiotics and the possible mechanisms underlying their overall effects on intestinal barrier functions, inflammatory status, gut microbiota, systemic inflammation, and metabolism, rather than the specific effects of each compound. I also discuss the possible mechanisms by which phytobiotics contribute to growth promotion in chickens.
Aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloy is a well-known alloy that is both strong and lightweight. Precipitation strengthening plays a significant role in the strength mechanism of this alloy, with nano-sized η-based precipitates being the representative precipitates. However, the growth of η precipitates can lead to a decrease in strength, necessitating research into ways to control their growth. In this study, we observed the atomic-level behavior of η2 precipitates and discovered that the precipitates grew through a combination with magnesium after a zinc segregation layer was formed around them.
Resistance Spot Welding has been one of the important process in the sheet metal fabrication of auto-body industry It is well known that the nugget formation of RSW is the major factor for the strength of the body. A high speed camera was used to consider initial melting and growth of the weld nugget in order to find out the nugget formation mechanism. It was observed that such mechanism had an effect on the dynamic resistance, which was a process parameter of resistance spot welding. Also, the relationship between the mechanism and process parameter was considered for the industrial application.
