Purpose: In this study, a grout material mixed using non-alkaline silica-based materials, which is an eco-friendly injection material to stabilize ground, is investigated to improve conventional problems. Method: The homogel specimens of Eco-Friendly Non-Alkaline Silica Sol (ENASS) and L.W. and S.G.R., representative silicate grouting are manufactured. Physicochemical and engineering properties of the specimens are evaluated in laboratory with uniaxial compression strength, hydraulic conductivity, shrinkage, chemical resistance, elution, fish poison, waste leaching. Result: Laboratory test results show that the ENASS was superior in all aspects compared to the existing injection matirial. The suitability of the grout material with ENASS is investigated with filed tests. Conclusion: The results of laboratory and field tests demonstrates that the grout material with ENASS is eco-friendly material that increases the strength, decreases the permeability, and discharges pollutants without leaching.
Grouting has been widely used to enhance the strength of the ground and prevent waterflow into the underground space in the geotechnical engineering field. Cement with bentonite can be considered a helpful grouting material because the bentonite has a swelling ability with water. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate the characteristics of grouting materials according to the mixing ratio for a successful grouting process. In this regard, the study investigated the viscosity and bleeding characteristics of grouting materials according to the mixing ratio (i.e., water/cement ratio and bentonite/cement ratio). In the experimental result, the viscosity increases with decreasing water/cement ratio and rising proportion of bentonite by weight of cement. However, the results of the bleeding ratio show the tendency is inversely proportional to the viscosity results. Bentonite was explored in terms of the viscosity and bleeding criterion. This result is expected to be meaningful to determine the optimized mixing ratio of bentonite-cement in the grouting field.

In installation of groundwater wells, grouting materials are injected between the groundwater borehole and the inner casing in order to prevent infiltration of contaminated groundwater from the top soil layers into wells. The injection device of grouting materials is commonly composed of an inlet head device with an expansion packer, a cylinder capable of storing the grouting materials, and an air cylinder. In this work, two types of common grouting materials, silicon and cement materials, were tested for their performances as grouting media. For silicon. silicon was mixed with clay or calcite, and tested for their tensile strength and underwater reactivity. Both silicon-clay and silicon-calcite mixtures had adequate flow and adhesiveness. For cement material, general cement, ultra-rapid harding cement, and natural cement were respectively mixed with three different soil types including coarse-grained granite, fine-grained granite, and gneiss, and direct shearing tests were conducted after hardening. Under grouting depth condition of 30 m, the minimum adhesive strength was greater for weathered gneiss than non-weathered gneiss with its maximum values obtained from the mixtures of ultra rapid-harding cement.
With the increasing number of underground projects, the problem of rock-water coupling catastrophe has increasingly become the focus of safety. Grouting reinforcement is gradually applied in subway, tunnel, bridge reinforcement, coal mine floor and other construction projects. At present, cement-based grouting materials are easy to shrink and have low strength after solidification. In order to overcome the special problems of high water pressure and high in-situ stress in deep part and improve the reinforcement effect. In view of the mining conditions of deep surrounding rock, a new type of cement-based reinforcement material was developed. We analyses the principle and main indexes of floor strengthening, and tests and optimizes the indexes and proportions of the two materials through laboratory tests. Then, observes and compares the microstructures of the optimized floor strengthening materials with those of the traditional strengthening materials through scanning electron microscopy. The test results show that 42.5 Portland cement-based grouting reinforcement material has the advantages of slight expansion, anti-dry-shrinkage, high compressive strength and high density when the water-cement ratio is 0.4, the content of bentonite is 4%, and the content of Nano Silica is 2.5%. The reinforcement effect is better than other traditional grouting reinforcement materials.

This paper describes field installation and load test results performed for three types of micropiles in the process of developing a new micropiling method. Field tests were performed for two conventional types(i.e., micropile reinforced with steel bar and gravity grouting, micropile reinforced with steel bar and steel casing and gravity grouting) and a proposed type(i.e., micropile reinforced with hollow steel pipe wrapped with geotextile-pack and pressurized grouting). The load test results subjected to axial compression and tension and lateral loading conditions are described in this paper. The micropiles were exposed in the air in order to verify the installation quality and curing condition of grouting material via ground excavation. Axial compression and tension test results indicate that the new micropile type provide at least 40% higher bearing capacity than that of conventional types. Based on the examination of exposed piles, it is induced that the proposed method, packed micropile, provides better interlocking between grouts and surrounding soils and increases higher frictional resistance comparing to conventional types.
The particle size of microfine cement(MC) is so small that it can be injected into silt layer. But the more particle size is miniaturized, the more the cohesion increases. This phenomenon results in the decrease of the perviousness of MC. In this study, the grouting effects of microfine cement with superplasticizer to maintain cohesion low and that of normal cement were investigated in rock. To estimate the grouting effects, TCR/RQD test for rock quality, lugeon test, borehole loading test for coefficients of elastic and deformative stress, borehole shear test for shear stress, detection p~q~t(pressure~flow~time) chart tests were carried out. The results using MC show a better permeability, modulus of elasticity, deformation, charge per unit, and recover efficiency of grouting material than those of ordinary portland cement except shear stress.

This study is about penetrability of Micro Cement(MC) used for ground improvement. In this study, the characteristics of chemical grouting such as solidification, penetrability were analyzed experimentally by changing permeability of ground, grain size and relative density of grout material. For evaluating applicability of grout material, solidification test and penetrability test were performed. From the results of the tests, effective solidification ratio and penetrability ratio of MC was each 75%, 86% to be excellent when ground permeability was in the range of 10$^{-2}$ and 10$^{-4}$ cm/sec. Otherwise, those of Ordinary Portland Cement(OPC) were both lower than 50% to be poor. When penetrability of grout material is needed for improvement of dam foundation and soft ground, application of MC Is much superior to that of the other materials. The results of the grouting tests in the water flowing ground show that solidification effect of long gel-time grout material is excellent as injection pressure increases when groundwater velocity is relatively low. But when groundwater velocity is relatively high, solidification effect of long gel-time grout material is very poor because most grout materials are outflowed. Therefore, as groundwater velocity is high, effective solidification ratio of long gel-time grout material is better than that of short gel-time grout material, also penetration distance of long gel-time grout material is longer than that of short gel-time grout material.
Numerical experiments using a distinct element code (PFC3D) were carried out for the analysis of grout-material transfer in soil layers and also for the analysis of increase in mechanical strength after permeation grouting. For rapid analysis, up-scaling analysis in length scale was adopted, and the following observations were made from the numerical experiments. Firstly, the relative size of grout material with respect to the in situ soil particles controlled the transfer distance of the grout particles. When the size of grout particle was 0.2 to 0.25 times of the in situ soil particles, clogging of pore spaces among the in situ soil particles occurred, resulting in restricted propagation of grout particles. It was also found that there was a threshold value in the size of grout particle. Below the threshold value, the transfer distance of the grout particle did not increase with the decrease of particle size of the grout material. Secondly, the increase in cohesion and internal friction angle was observed in the numerical specimen with grouting treatment, but not with the untreated specimen.

Grouting is frequently used before the construction of subsea tunnels to mitigate problems that can occur in weak ground zones such as joints, faults or unconsolidated settlements during construction. The grout material injected into rock mass often flows through the discontinuities present in the host rock and hence, joint properties such as its distribution, roughness and thickness greatly affect the properties of grouting-improved rocks. The grouting-improved zones near subsea tunnels are also subjected to high water pressures that can cause long-term weathering in the form of changes in grout microstructure and crack formation and lead to subsequent changes in ground properties. Therefore, an assessment method is needed to accurately measure changes in the grouting-improved zones near subsea tunnels. In this study, the elastic wave propagation characteristics in grouting-improved rocks were tested for various axial stress levels, curing time, joint roughness and thickness conditions under laboratory conditions and the results were compared with wave velocity standards in different Korean rock mass classification systems to provide a basis for inferring improvement in grouted rock-mass.
In order to ground reinforcement, the chemical grouting, the anchor, the soil nailing system, the micropile, etc. can be mentioned by the methods widely used in domestic. The above ground reinforcement methods are developed by various methods depending on the type of reinforcement, installation method, presence of prestress, grouting method, etc. However, in common, the strength of reinforcement, the friction force of grout and reinforcement and the friction force of grout and ground are the main design variables. Therefore, the optimized ground reinforcement is a material with a high tensile strength of the reinforcement itself, the friction force between the reinforcement and the grout is high, and the application of an optimal grouting method is necessary to improve the friction force between the grout and the ground. In this study, a total of 20 model tests were conducted to analyze the reinforcement effects according to the shape of the reinforcement and the grouting method. As a result of the test, As a result of the experiment, it is judged that the reinforcing effect is superior to the perforated + wing type reinforcement and post grouting method.
