  • An Unrelated Parallel Processing with Weighted jobs and Setup times scheduling prolem is studied. We consider a parallel processing in which a group of processors(machines) perform a single operation on jobs of a number of different job types. The processing time of each job depends on both the job and the machine, and each job has a weight. In addition each machine requires significant setup time between processing jobs of different job types. The performance measure is to minimize total weighted flow time in order to meet the job importance and to minimize in-process inventory. We present a 0-1 Mixed Integer Programming model as an optimizing algorithm. We also present a simple heuristic algorithm. Computational results for the optimal and the heuristic algorithm are reported and the results show that the simple heuristic is quite effective and efficient.

  • This study explores the development process of an farmers' group in Asan City that now plays an important role in the development of organic farming of the region. While increase in income in general may be one of main purposes making farmers join or form a group, the farmers group in Asan, instead, has tried to form a cooperative of local organic farmers. In doing so, they experienced a lot of difficulties and leant by trial and error. As a result, the farmers' group has recently developed in terms of business and organisational growth. The growth is not merely due to the growth of organic food markets but also due to the strong internal ties and trust that made possible to expand into food processing as well as to do social and cultural activities fur the rural residents. It implies that trust and cooperative identity between farmers should be the most important thing to be locally embedded farmers groups in a specific region.

  • In this paper, a new multi-group neutron-gamma transport calculation code system STRAUM-MATXST for complicated geometrical problems is introduced and its development status including numerical tests is presented. In this code system, the MATXST (MATXS-based Cross Section Processor for SN Transport) code generates multi-group neutron and gamma cross sections by processing MATXS format libraries generated using NJOY and the STRAUM (SN Transport for Radiation Analysis with Unstructured Meshes) code performs multi-group neutron-gamma coupled transport calculation using tetrahedral meshes. In particular, this work presents the recent implementation and its test results of the Krylov subspace methods (i.e., Bi-CGSTAB and GMRES(m)) with preconditioners using DSA (Diffusion Synthetic Acceleration) and TSA (Transport Synthetic Acceleration). In addition, the Krylov subspace methods for accelerating the energy-group coupling iteration through thermal up-scatterings are implemented with new multi-group block DSA and TSA preconditioners in STRAUM.

  • For three and more rapidly moving vehicles, they want to search the nearest location for meeting. Each vehicle has a different velocity and a efficient method is needed for shifting a short distance. It is observed that the existing group nearest-neighbor query has been investigated for static query points; however these studies do not extend to highly dynamic vehicle environments. In this paper, we propose a novel Dynamic Nearest-Neighbor query processing for Multiple Vehicles (DNN_MV). Our method retrieves the nearest neighbor for a group of moving query points with a given vector and takes the direction of moving query points with a given vector into consideration for DNN_MV. Our method efficiently calculates a group nearest neighbor through a centroid point that represents the group of moving query points. The experimental results show that the proposed method operates efficiently in a dynamic group nearest neighbor search.

  • In order to operate the automatic devices of manufacturing process more efficiently and to solve the needs of the resource sharing, network technology is applied to the unit control devices located in common manufacturing zone and operated by connecting them.In this paper, functional standard of the network operation layer is set as MAP standard application layer of MMS(manufacturing message standard)for the cell or group, which is suggested by CIM (computer integrated manufacturing) standardization as common manufacturing zone.MMS is composed of abstract message which is not consider specific devices. Then, specific message standard must be defined to operate MMS.It is designed as VMD (virtual manufacturing device)objects which are abstract objects to perform group management based on the companion standard. Also they are operated in the group management model system.Group management operation takes multicast communication method which is the communication from single source to the multiple sinks, and the group management system and unit control devices are performed as VMD and real device mapping.

  • The effect of some peptides on hepatoprotection and cecal fermentation against D-galactosamine (GalN)-treated rats was studied. In acute hepatic injury tests, serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotranferase (AST), and lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) activities were remarkably increased after injection of GalN. However, potato and soybean peptides significantly decreased GalN-induced alterations of serum ALT and AST activities. Hepatic thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance (TBARS) concentration in GalN-treated groups fed potato and soybean peptides was significantly lower than that in GalN-treated control group. Hepatic glutathione level in the GalN-treated group fed potato peptide was significantly higher than that in GalN-treated control group. Furthermore, cecal Lactobacillus level in GalN-treated groups fed potato and soybean peptides was significantly higher than that in GalN-treated control group, and cecal short-chain fatty acid concentrations in GalN-treated group fed potato peptide were significantly higher than in GalN-treated control group. These results indicate that potato peptide may improve the cecal fermentation and prevent the GalN-induced liver damage in rats.

  • PURPOSE. This study aims to evaluate the effects of exposure energy on the lateral resolution and mechanical strength of dental zirconia manufactured using digital light processing (DLP). MATERIALS AND METHODS. A zirconia suspension and a custom top-down DLP printer were used for in-office manufacturing. The viscosity of the suspension and uniformity of the exposed light intensity were controlled. Based on the exposure energy dose delivered to each layer, the specimens were classified into three groups: low-energy (LE), medium-energy (ME), and high-energy (HE). For each energy group, a simplified molar cube was used to measure the widths of the outline (Xo and Yo) and isthmus (Xi and Yi), and a bar-shaped specimen of the sintered body was tested. A Kruskal-Wallis test for the lateral resolution and one-way analysis of variance for the mechanical strength were performed (α = .05). RESULTS. The zirconia green bodies of the ME group showed better lateral resolution than those of the LE and HE groups (both P < .001). Regarding the flexural strength of the sintered bodies, the ME group had the highest mean value, whereas the LE group had the lowest mean value (both P < .05). The ME group exhibited fewer agglomerates than the LE group, with no distinctive interlayer pores or surface defects. CONCLUSION. Based on these findings, the lateral resolution of the green body and flexural strength of the sintered body of dental zirconia could be affected by the exposure energy dose during DLP. The exposure energy should be optimized when fabricating DLP-based dental zirconia.

  • Recently, embedded systems, such as mobile platforms, have multiple processing units that can operate in parallel, such as centralized processing units (CPUs) and neural processing units (NPUs). We can use deep-learning compilers to generate machine code optimized for these embedded systems from a deep neural network (DNN). However, the deep-learning compilers proposed so far generate codes that sequentially execute DNN operators on a single processing unit or parallel codes for graphic processing units (GPUs). In this study, we propose PartitionTuner, an operator scheduler for deep-learning compilers that supports multiple heterogeneous PUs including CPUs and NPUs. PartitionTuner can generate an operator-scheduling plan that uses all available PUs simultaneously to minimize overall DNN inference time. Operator scheduling is based on the analysis of DNN architecture and the performance profiles of individual and group operators measured on heterogeneous processing units. By the experiments for seven DNNs, PartitionTuner generates scheduling plans that perform 5.03% better than a static type-based operator-scheduling technique for SqueezeNet. In addition, PartitionTuner outperforms recent profiling-based operator-scheduling techniques for ResNet50, ResNet18, and SqueezeNet by 7.18%, 5.36%, and 2.73%, respectively.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: There is intense interest in soy isoflavone as a hormone replacement therapy for the prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis. A new kind of isoflavone-enriched whole soy milk powder (I-WSM) containing more isoflavones than conventional whole soy milk powder was recently developed. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of I-WSM on bone metabolism in ovariectomized mice. MATERIALS/METHODS: Sixty female ICR mice individually underwent ovariectomy (OVX) or a sham operation, and were randomized into six groups of 10 animals each as follows: Sham, OVX, OVX with 2% I-WSM diet, OVX with 10% I-WSM diet, OVX with 20% I-WSM diet, and OVX with 20% WSM diet. After an 8-week treatment period, bone mineral density (BMD), calcium, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) 5b, osteocalcin (OC), procollagen 1 N-terminal propeptide (P1NP), and osteoprotegenin (OPG) were analyzed. RESULTS: BMD was significantly lower in the OVX group compared to the Sham group but was significantly higher in OVX + 10% I-WSM and OVX + 20% I-WSM groups compared to the OVX group (P < 0.05). Serum calcium concentration significantly increased in the OVX + 10% and 20% I-WSM groups. Serum ALP levels were significantly lower in the OVX + 10% and 20% I-WSM groups compared to the other experimental groups (P < 0.05). OC was significantly reduced in the OVX group compared to the Sham group (P < 0.05), but a dose-dependent increase was observed in the OVX groups supplemented with I-WSM. P1NP and OPG levels were significantly reduced, while TRAP 5b level was significantly elevated in the OVX group compared with the Sham group, which was not affected by I-WSM (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that I-WSM supplementation in OVX mice has the effect of preventing BMD reduction and promoting bone formation. Therefore, I-WSM can be used as an effective alternative to postmenopausal osteoporosis prevention.
