A Study on the Lightning Overvoltage Analysis and Lightning Surge Protection Methods in Underground Distribution System (지중배전계통의 뇌과전압 해석 및 뇌써지 보호방안에 관한 연구)

  • The effects of surge arresters for protection of transmission systems against direct lightning strokes have already been investigated using the digital simulation program EMTP. Distribution lines are spanned on a much large area as compared to transmission lines, and therefore, are more often susceptible to lightning strokes. This paper analyzes the overvoltages on underground cable system against direct lightning strokes to the overhead ground wire using the digital simulation. The effects of lightning protection methods, such as lowering the grounding resistance and installing the surge arrester, for preventing overvoltages on underground cable system caused by direct lightning strokes to the overhead ground wire is investigated. Several schemes have been proposed to protect underground cables. This paper summarizes the main results of a study aimed at analysis of lightning overvoltages in variety underground feeders protected by metal-oxide arresters. This study will provide insulation coordination methods for reasonable system design in 22.9kV underground cable system.

Characteristics and Measurement Method of the Underwater Electromagnetic Signature Emitted from a Naval Ship (함정 발생 수중 전자기장 신호의 특성 및 측정 기법)

  • The underwater electromagnetic signatures of a naval ship are mainly generated from three sources which are the permanent and induced magnetic field in the ship's hull and other ferrous components, the cathodic current electromagnetic field established by the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection(ICCP) system or the Sacrificial Anode and the stray electromagnetic fields generated by onboard equipment. These signatures can be minimized by certain design methods or installation of signature reduction equipment. In this paper, we represented the characteristic of the underwater electromagnetic signature and the signature reduction techniques for a naval ship. Also, we measured the electromagnetic field changes emitted from the real ship using the Electric and Magnetic field Measurement System(EMMS). We found that the underwater electromagnetic signature for a naval ship can be used as input or trigger signal in a surveillance system and an influence mine.

Fundamental Research on the Development of a Risk Based Decision Support System for Maritime Accident Response: Focused on Oil Tanker Grounding (위험도기반 해양사고 초기대응 지원 시스템 개발 기초연구: 유조선 좌초사고를 중심으로)

  • A number of maritime accidents, and accident response activities, including the command and control procedures that were implemented at accident scenes, are analyzed to derive useful information about responding to maritime accidents, and to understand how the chain of events developed after the initial accident. In this research, a new concept of a 'risk based accident response support system' is proposed. In order to identify the event chains and associated hazards related to the accident response activities, this study proposes a 'Brainstorming technique for scenario identification', based on the concept of the HAZID technique. A modified version of Event Tree Analysis was used for quantitative risk analysis of maritime accident response activities. PERT/CPM was used to analyze accident response activities and for calculating overall (expected) response activity completion time. Also, the risk based accident response support system proposed in this paper is explained using a simple case study of risk analysis for oil tanker grounding accident response.

Users' Status Quo Bias in the Mobile Application Context : From the Myopic Loss Aversion Perspective (근시안적 손실회피 관점에서 본 모바일 애플리케이션 사용자의 현상유지 편향에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose While individuals have unique abilities for planned behavior, they also often act irrationally. In this study, we draw on myopic loss aversion perspective as a meta-theoretical lens to explain why mobile applications users have inertia from updating their applications, ultimately leading them to use current version of applications. Design/methodology/approach Based on a survey of 219 users, this study conducts its research model using partial least square analysis and also demonstrates that both subconscious triggers (habit and anxiety) of system 1 thinking and conscious triggers (sunk cost and transition cost) of system 2 thinking promotes user's inertia, thus leading to the willness to continue use current versions. Findings By grounding the research model in the combination of both status quo bias and dual information processing theory from the behavioral economics, this study provide an alternative theoretical lens to describe why mobile users hesitate to update their applications. The results of this research show that all triggers have significant impacts on inertia. This study also found that the relationship between inertia and willingness to continue to use current version was positively significant.

Analysis of Flashover Rate by Lightning in Korea Distribution Line using CRIEPI Method (CRIEPI 방식을 이용한 국내 가공 배전선로에서의 뇌 섬락률 산정)

  • This paper analyzes the flashover rate by lightning in Korea distribution system. Because of random characteristics of lightning, the Monte Carlo method is applied to estimate the lightning performance. The magnitude of lightning stroke is based on the curve measured in field. The classification of direct and indirect lightning depends on the striking distance. The striking distance and flashover rate are calculated by using the method based on Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry(CRIEPI). The distribution system and lightning is modeled by using EMTP and MATLAB, and the accuracy of modeling is discussed. The simulations for the various spacing between two adjacent surge arresters and the various grounding resistance of GW according to the existence of GW are performed and the simulation results are analyzed.

  • Marine risk assessment considers events such as collision/grounding, sinking/capsize, fire/explosion and flooding, developing relationships between their causes and effects. In addition, risk assessment of previously sunken ships are also necessary since they continuously have possibility for further oil spill or can cause other marine accidents. The objective of this paper is to develop the risk assessment systems for sunken ships to prevent oil spill and further marine causalities in order to preserve safe and clean oceans around Korea peninsula. The risk assessment systems for sunken ships comprise of database management sub-system for sunken ships, qualitative risk assessment sub-system, quantitative risk assessment sub-system, and cost-benefit analysis subsystem.

  • According to the realization of highly information dependent society, the recent building system is developed into the concept of suitable for management of intellegent work, which is demanded to unify of IBS(Intelligent Building System), IC(information communication), OA(office automation), BA(building automation) system and computer technology. However inspite of the presence arrester, cable shielding, insulated TR, filter, earth etc., in the IBS building for the cope with several surge and noise has several problems from the wrong operation of the equipment which caused from several surge, damage of equipment, and noise etc. And the miss operation caused by wrong earth works, which must be considered at first during the building construction. In order to minimize these problems, it's necessary that various earth project are performed effectively, and bonding methods between the mutual wiring of earth system and the equipments in the building should be improved sucessively. So in this paper, we analyze present domestic conditions of the earth technology in IBS building, and propose minimization method for the various surge and noise problem, and examine and analyze through the applied works.

  • In this study, there are examined to the grounding of lightning protection system and electrical continuity tests in the field. The standard for lightning protection system is different design or construction according to the characteristics of the structure. Ground is measured and compared at least four locations. According to the measured results in the field, the sampled values of the ground resistance are measured $5{\Omega}$ or less and the difference between each value is suitable as $0.2{\Omega}$ or less. The values of the electrical continuity test between ground and metal bodies are measured 3 groups such as isolated portion, the mechanical contacted portion, and the electrical continuity portion measuring $0.2{\Omega}$ or less. It is measured to be less than $0.2{\Omega}$ at all in metal bodies of underground. A metal body installed inside the structure is not isolated, but the resistance values are higher than $0.2{\Omega}$. Therefore, It must be carried out the structure having lightning protection system confirm the LPL(lightning protection level) and design the strategy.

  • KEPCO has built, for the first time in the world, 765㎸ double circuit transmission lines which use vertically arranged phase conductor, while 765㎸ transmission lines in other countries are single circuit lines and use horizontally arranged phase conductor. System operating voltage, switching overvoltage, and lightning overvoltage were considered in determining the air gap. Recently, however, lightning outage rate of some 765㎸ transmission lines in KOREA shows that it is more than what is expected. Lightning fault of 765㎸ transmission lines is mostly single phase grounding fault which can be reclosed. But it still needs to be carefully managed, for the bulk system like 765㎸ transmission lines have huge effects on whole power system. This paper introduces analysis and countermeasure of KEPCO's 765㎸ transmission line lightning outage.

  • This paper describes sheath voltage limiter(SVL) transient characteristics by switching overvoltage considering single point bonding in underground transmission cables. The crossbonding system is generally used for grounding methods of underground transmission system. However, the single point bonding system is used in selective area which is difficult to consist of crossbonding major section. The sheath voltage limiters are connected between joints in the single point bonding. Specially, the high overvoltage might be generated in that section as well as the aging of sheath voltage limiter might be progressed by various electrical stress including lightning overvoltage, switching overvoltage and power frequency overvoltage. Therefore, in this paper, the switching overvoltage characteristics in underground cables are firstly analysed using EMTP simulation. Then, the switching overvoltage of sheath voltage limiter is also studied in single point bonding. Finally, the reduction method of sheath voltage limiter switching overvoltage is proposed by various simulation studies including circuit breaker operating order.
