  • In this paper, the effects of grinding conditions on the surface roughness of $ZrO_2$ ferrule applying to the optical fiber connector were investigated. The mesh number of grindstone, the grinding speed and the time schedule during grinding were regarded as main cutting parameters that have an effect on the surface roughness. And then, optimal combinations for chamfering grinding were obtained by using the Taguchi method. In addition, analytic values for maximum surface roughness ($R_{max}$) estimated by the theoretical equations which were derived from the formative model of surface roughness on the chamfering grinding were compared with those of the experiments.

  • A CBN wheel was used for the highly efficient and precision grinding of the mold material(STD11). The grinding form accuracy by a CBN wheel is very excellent due to its low wheel wear, but grinding fragments resemble fine powders rather chips. A fine powders by this fragmentation can easily get attached to the wheel surface and therefore causing a loading. In order to prevent this fragmentation phenomena, the alumina stick is use to processing. Because the dressing with alumina stick should be interrupted for a processing, the automation of the processing and high productivity was very difficult. The investigation on the effect of Ultrasonic In-Process Dressing(ULID) on the grinding characteristics focuses in this Paper. This ULID method is that ultrasonic vibration in my Position of wheel is used to remove impurities on the wheel surface. Finally, the rate of surface roughness change in grinding by the ULID method was less than grinding without ultrasonic vibration. Loading phenomena by the ULID method were more prevented than grinding without ultrasonic vibration.

  • This paper has studied to obtain the grinding characteristics and optimal grinding renditions of ceramic materials in the grinding with diamond wheel by the experimental plan method. The load on wheel by varying the feed rate was related with the surface roughness due to the minute destruction phenomenon of grains for the Si$_3$${N^4} and Zr{O_2}$. The depth of cut is related with the surface roughness because the grinding is carried out by grain shedding process due to the brittle fracture phenomenon for the ${Al_2}{O_3}$. The major factors affecting the surface roughness and the optimum grinding conditions were obtained with minimum experiments using the experimental plan method.

  • Electrolytic In-Process Dressing grinding technique which enables application of metal bond wheels with fine superabrasives in mirror surface grinding operations has developed. This paper provides charateristic evaluation of power supply supply that we developed and general charateristics of ELID grinding. The electric behaviors are compared each about two different electrode which has 1/4, 1/6 the area of entire wheel surface, and two different fluids which has 1:50, 1:30 the quantity of water was used to dillute grinding fluids. The results show that ELID grinding method is useful for mirror surface machining.

  • In this study, an experimental research of grinding characteristics using super-abrasives for surface carburized and heat treated SCM415 materials, which were usually used to make a linear motion guide block and were comparatively hard-to-machine materials, was carried out. In order to conduct a high efficiency and a accuracy grinding of such materials, grinding processes using CBN (Cubic boron nitride) and 38P grinding wheels have been attempted on a surface grinding machine. The grindability according to each grinding conditions was evaluated by means of a grinding force, a surface roughness and a residual stress. The experimental methods and results were presented in this paper. And also, from a proposed truing method the CBN wheels that combined a copper and a break truer gave a full scope to the wheel's performance.

  • Grinding experiments for Al 7075 alloy were carried out to study the influence of grinding conditions and supply methods of grinding fluid on residual stress and surface roughness and grinding force. The residual stress was measured by an X-ray method. The supply method of grinding fluid with a guide nozzle has large decrease value of the tensile residual stress and of grinding force than a normal nozzle. In sparking out state of the grinding work, it is desirable to decrease the depth of cut and the workpiece feedrate for improving surface roughness and mechanical properties.

  • A diamond grinding wheel is generally used to grind hard and brittle materials, such as advanced ceramics. It is, however, quite difficult to dress a diamond grinding wheel efficiently because of its high degree of hardness. In this study, some investigations are carried out to increase dressing efficiecy of resinoid bonded diamond grinding wheel. Dressing forces are measured over a wide range of dressing conditions, and SEM observation of a grinding wheel is carried out. Special attention is paid to comparison between stick method and rotary brake method. Results obtained in this study provide useful information determining reguired dressing time, and for choosing efficient dressing condition for diamond grinding wheel.

  • Non-Parallelism the axial direction occurs during grinding process of long slender shafts. The reason for the axial error is due to elastic deformation of the components, accumulation phenomenon of the grinding and wheel wear during the grinding process. The accumulation phenomenon, the size generation mechanism and the wheel wear process during traverse grinding result in complicated process at each step on the wheel surface. The grinding system stiffness obtained from the stiffness of the center on the tailstock and the workpiece varing according to the relative position of the wheel and the workpiece. Further more, the value of wheel wear increases as the grinding process advances. The above mentioned issues make the shape generation process during traverse grinding quite complicated. This research analyzes the shape generation process in the direction of the work spindle. First, the formulation of the grinding system stiffness was conducted and the simulation analysis method of the traverse grinding was established. Also, a measuring system for assessing the dimensinal accuracy of the workpiece has been developed.

  • In surface grinding, the contact between the grinding wheel and the workpiece introduces heat and resistance, which restrict the self-dressing of the grits and result in burrs and cracks on the workpiece. Therefore, before or during th grinding wheel for more accurate performance. In order to determine the dressing time monitoring method of grinding wheel in surface grinding, a three-dimensional computer simulation of the grinding operation has been attempted based on the contact mechanism and surface-shaping system between the grinding wheel and the workpiece. The optimal dressing time is determined based on the amount of the grain wear and work surface roughness.
