  • The composite frame system suggested in this paper consists of steel reinforced concrete beam encased with structural tee and precast concrete column. This system has advantages such as reduction of materials, CO2 emissions and waste. To commercialize the new composite frame system, it is necessary to develop connections that can effectively connect each member. Therefore, a hybrid connection that has steel type connection and reinforced concrete together is utilized to connect easily at the composite frame system. To evaluate the structural performance of the composite frame system, an experimental investigation is presented. In this study, the flexural moment capacity of the composite frame was determined using the strain compatibility approach. The strain compatibility approach can be used to predict the flexural moment capacity at each limit state. As a result, all elements of the beam to column connection are represented to fully interact between each other. The specimens show errors of -1.9% in the yield limit state and 0.9% at the maximum load limit state. Also, testing shows that beam to column connections have characteristics of semi-rigid connection as per Eurocode 3.

  • The efforts for sustainable development in building construction is widely applied by global organizations, governments, etc. However, according to the researchers, if the green rating systems on the building, it is reported that construction costs and durations are increased compared to conventional buildings. In this respect, the objective of this study is to identify the construction costs between LEED and non-LEED buildings. The scope of this study is limited in 21 university buildings of Canada. The methodology is as follows: First, the data of LEED and non-LEED buildings are collected in every university building. Second, the average construction costs per square meter is collected and normality check is conducted. Third, to identify statistical significance, the difference of average construction costs is analyzed by using T-test. As a result, it is concluded that the construction costs of LEED buildings are increased by approximately 3.8% more than non-LEED buildings. In the future, the results of this study can be applied to analyzing the additional costs according to the LEED grade in educational buildings.

  • This study reinterpreted the formative design elements of traditional grate patterns to create new lattice patterns and come up with a design concept for fashion-cultural products that highlight the uniqueness of traditional Korean culture and its characteristic features. Methodologically, the computer design software programs Adobe Illustrator CS2 and Adobe Photoshop were used to make grate patterns motifs. and they were applied to scarves and again to blouses using a three-dimensional simulation technique. In this study, three basic motifs for a new formative image were set using graphical functions such as omitting, simplifying, overlapping, repeating and reducing shapes based on the images of traditional 亞-shaped, arched and floral lattices, and each motif was expanded to have two variations with different colors applied to them. The direction of basic motif design was set to fit for each of fashion-cultural items such as scarves and blouses. Basic colors for motifs were arranged to create a colorful and modern but staid image in pink, blue, purple, green, yellow and brown tones. Based on a developed motif, changes were made in blouse design with lattice patterns through a variety of effects such as repetition, rotation, cross-arrangement, and oblique arrangement, and three-dimensional simulation was used to bring the design to life. Scarf design employed and applied the existing motifs in an appropriate manner for design purposes and reconstructed them through such effects as repetition, rotation, compositional variation and gradation to express a gorgeous and refined image.

  • Light characteristics of the monochromatic red(R), blue(B), green(G) and white(W) and the mixed LED (B-R LED) were investigated by light control a Spectrometer-MMS1 and an illuminometer. The power consumption of each LED was 1W and R LED has five wavelength bands(600nm, 640nm, 660nm, 680nm, 750nm). The light intensity of each LED was changed in a range 10~100%. As a results, the wavelength and the spectrum distribution of R LED increase with increasing light intensity but the wavelength of B, G, W LED decreases. It was found that illumination of each mononochromatic and B-R LED increases linearly with increasing light intensity. It was confirmed that the illumination intensity of R-B light has greater values than those obtained by monochromatic light at the same conditions.

  • Antiferromagnet (AFM)/ferromagnet (FM) bilayer structures are widely used in the magnetic devices of sensor and memory applications, as AFM materials can induce unidirectional anisotropy of the FM material via exchange coupling. The strength of the exchange coupling is known to be sensitive to quality of the interface of the AFM/FM bilayers. In this study, we utilize proton irradiation to modify the interface structures and investigate its effect on the magnetic properties of AFM/FM structures, including the exchange bias and magnetic thermoelectric effect. The magnetic properties of IrMn/CoFeB structures with various IrMn thicknesses are characterized after they are exposed to a proton beam of 3 MeV and $1{\sim}5{\times}10^{14}ions/cm^2$. We observe that the magnetic moment is gradually reduced as the amount of the dose is increased. On the other hand, the exchange bias field and thermoelectric voltage are not significantly affected by proton irradiation. This indicates that proton irradiation has more of an influence on the bulk property of the FM CoFeB layer and less of an effect on the IrMn/CoFeB interface.
