Applicability of Similitude Law for 1-g shaking table tests (1-g 진동대 모형시험에서의 상사법칙 적용성 평가)

  • Shaking table model tests are performed to reproduce the dynamic behavior of a gravity quay wall and a pile-supported wharf damaged by Kobe earthquake in 1995. Using the scaling relations suggested by Scott and Iai(1989), the results of the model tests are compared with field measurements as well as with those of the model tests previously executed. The displacements of the gravity quay wall predicted by the current model tests are, at most, one third of the measured displacements, while the displacements of the model pile-supported wharf are about two thirds of the measured values. One possibility for the discrepancy is speculated to be the use of too big scaling factor, i.e., too small size of model.

  • The manipulability of robot provides useful Information for the design and path planning of robots. This paper shows an influence of joint velocities to acceleration of robot end-effector using a dynamic manipulability polytope. The main idea of this paper is that the dynamic manipulability polytope of robot can be divided to three intermediate polytope, the torque-dependant polytope, velocity-dependent polytope, and gravity-dependant polytope. The velocity-dependant polytope is made from the limits of robot joint velocities while the torque-dependant polytope is made from the limits of the joint torques. Combining of these two intermediate polytopes and considering the gravity-dependant polytope, the overall dynamic manipulability polytope of robot is obtained. This investigation will be useful on the field of space robot and high-speed application.

  • In this study, the control of the free surface deformation of a magnetic fluid for the change in electromagnetic force is discussed. The free surface of magnetic fluid is formed by the balance of surface force, gravity, pressure difference, magnetic normal pressure and magnetic body force. Magnetic fluid in characteristics of fluid adjusted to the opposite direction of the gravity direction. Thus, the device of a magnetic fluid proposed the complete zero-leakage sealing, oscillator for surface control, boundary layer control, MHD, flow control, flow using magnetic levitation system and surface actuator. This study show the deformation of surface rise due to the intensity of the magnetic field and possibility of two-dimensional control of magnetic fluid through the feedback data of hall sensor.

  • The characteristics of a two-dimensional jet through a symmetric slot in a gravity field are considered here as an extension of a gravity-free problem. The coefficient of discharge $C_d$ is found to be $C_d~0.61102(1+0.31857$\varepsilon$^2)$ in terms of a small parameter $\varepsilon$. The shape of jet is derived and computed correctly up to first order.

  • Stability of laminar premixed planar flames inclined in the gravitational field is asymptotically examined. The flame structure is resolved by a large activation energy asymptotics and a long wave approximation. The coupling between hydrodynamics and diffusion processes is included and near-unity Lewis number is assumed. The results show that as the flame is more inclined from the horizontal plane it becomes more unstable due to not only the decrease of stabilizing effect of gravity but also the increase of destabilizing effect of rotational flow. The obtained dispersion relation involves the Prandtl number and shows the destabilizing effect of viscosity. The analysis predicts that the phase velocity of unstable flame wave depends on not only the flame angle but also the Lewis number. For relatively short wave disturbances, still much larger than flame thickness, the most unstable wavelength is nearly independent on the flame angle and the flame can be stabilized by gravity and diffusion mechanism.

  • In this paper, we confirmed the yellowish gravity-mura phenomenon in Fringe-Field Switching (FFS) mode using 2-D simulation. As the cell gap increases, while the LC efficiency of blue wavelength remains almost same, that of red and green wavelength increases continuously. As a result, yellowish phenomenon occurs.

  • Si wafer, which was treated with TMSP-TBA (N-trimethoxysilylpropyl-n,n,n-tri-n-butylammonium bromide), was used foF a substrate to grow a MFI membrane. Growth of membranes was conducted in various conditions such as temperature and gravity, and their structures were in detail studied with field emission scanning electron microscope and x-ray diffractometer. The structures of membranes grown on substrates were strongly dependent on growing temperature and gravity.

  • In this paper, the tracking control of an automatic pipe cutting robot, called APCROM, with a magnetic binder is studied. Using magnetic force APCROM, a wheeled robot, binds itself to the pipe and executes unmanned cutting process. The gravity effect on the movement of APCROM varies as it rotates around the pipe laid in the gravitational field. In addition to the varying gravity effect other types of nonlinear disturbances including backlash in the driving system and the slip between the wheels of APCROM and the pipe also cause degradation in the cutting process. To maintain a constant velocity and consistent cutting performance, the authors adopt a repetitive learning controller (MRLC), which learns the required effort to cancel the tracking errors. An angular-position estimation method based on the MEMS-type accelerometer is also used in conjunction with MRLC to compensate the tracking error caused by slip at the wheels. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • I present a simple scheme for the treatment of gravitational interactions on galactic scales. In analogy with known mechanisms of quantum field theory, I assume ad hoc that gravitation is mediated by virtual exchange particles - gravitons - with very small but non-zero masses. The scheme predicts the asymptotic flattening of galactic rotation curves, the Tully-Fisher/Faber-Jackson relations, the mass discrepancy-acceleration relation of galaxies, and the surface brightness-acceleration relation of galaxies correctly; additional (dark) mass components are not required. The well-established empirical scaling laws of Modified Newtonian Dynamics follow naturally from the model. The scheme I present is not a consistent theory of gravitation; rather, it is a toy model providing a convenient scaling law that simplifies the description of gravity on galactic scales.

An Experimental Study for Cement Setting Property of Wood Chip Board Using Construction Waste Wood (건설폐목을 이용한 목질계보드의 시멘트응결 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study we experimented setting time and basic properties as waste wood fiber and sodium silicate substitution rate to reuse waste wood fiber produced in construction field to wood chip board. To do this construction waste woods were crushed with the size less than 10mm, mixed with the rate of 1:2, 2.5, 3, and added sodium silicate with the rate of 0, 5% of cement content. The results are as follows. As the substitution rate of construction waste wood was increased delay of setting time was also increased, and the batch of adding 5% accelerator had a 13~17 hours faster setting time than non accelerator batch. The compressive strength was lower as wood substitution rate was higher, and as the specific gravity was higher, the strength was also higher. As wood substitution rate was higher, heat conductivity was lower, and as specific gravity was higher, heat conductivity also was higher.
