Buoyancy and Vertical Distribution of Mackerel Scomber japonicus Eggs in Korean Waters (한국 연근해 고등어(Scomber japonicus) 알의 비중과 수직분포)

  • This study simulated the egg vertical distribution of mackerel Scomber japonicus in Korean waters using general numerical models. All eggs were spawned naturally by raising broodfishes (May-June 2013), and the egg specific gravity was measured by a density-gradient column. CTD surveys provided environmental data (e.g., temperature and salinity) in May near Jeju Island, Korea. The egg specific gravity during the early stages ranged from 1.0203-1.0211. In general, the fertilized eggs showed a gradual decline in egg specific gravity until full development of the main organs, with a sudden increase just before hatching. Modeled egg vertical distributions were influenced more by wind speed than by egg buoyancy and vertical structure of the sea water. During calm and normal wind speeds, the eggs were distributed from the surface to 25-m depths. Under strong wind conditions (three times higher than the normal speed), the egg concentration on the surface decreased, and the egg distributional depth was deeper (~50 m).

Does Urbanization Affect Bilateral Trade? (양국의 도시화가 무역에 미치는 영향: 중력 모형의 활용)

  • In this paper we explore the two analyses to know the urbanization effect on trade. First, the granger causality test to examine the relationship between trade and urbanization. The Granger causality test is a statistical hypothesis test for determining whether one time series is useful for forecasting another. The results indicated that the existence of a bidirectional causality running from trade to urbanization when six lags were applied. When eight lags were applied, we found unidirectional causality running from urbanization to trade. Second, gravity models were used to investigate the urbanization effect on trade. The production cost and specification are affected by the economies of scale, and the economies of scale increased as the greater geographically agglomeration. However, the gravity model to explain the bilateral trade flows ignores the urbanization variables. Therefore we added the urbanization variable represented as the geographically agglomeration into gravity model. The results show that the degree of urbanization of both countries has statistically positive effect on trade (export and import) and the bigger coefficients of trade partner's urbanization. The reason is that the trade share of industrial supplies, intermediate goods and capital goods is much higher than finished consumer goods. The urbanization is more important the improved the efficiency of production than demand market.

A Method of Hand Recognition for Virtual Hand Control of Virtual Reality Game Environment (가상 현실 게임 환경에서의 가상 손 제어를 위한 사용자 손 인식 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a control method of virtual hand by the recognition of a user's hand in the virtual reality game environment. We display virtual hand on the game screen after getting the information of the user's hand movement and the direction thru input images by camera. We can utilize the movement of a user's hand as an input interface for virtual hand to select and move the object. As a hand recognition method based on the vision technology, the proposed method transforms input image from RGB color space to HSV color space, then segments the hand area using double threshold of H, S value and connected component analysis. Next, The center of gravity of the hand area can be calculated by 0 and 1 moment implementation of the segmented area. Since the center of gravity is positioned onto the center of the hand, the further apart pixels from the center of the gravity among the pixels in the segmented image can be recognized as fingertips. Finally, the axis of the hand is obtained as the vector of the center of gravity and the fingertips. In order to increase recognition stability and performance the method using a history buffer and a bounding box is also shown. The experiments on various input images show that our hand recognition method provides high level of accuracy and relatively fast stable results.

A Numerical Study on the Selection of Main Specification of the 18.5ft Bass Fishing Boat (18.5ft급 경기용 배스보트의 주요제원 선정에 관한 수치해석 연구)

  • Recently, bass fishing has become a marine leisure sport in Korea. There are 4 major fishing associations in Korea, and each association holds 10-15 tournaments each year. However, supply of 17 ft bass boats, which are preferred in leagues, depends 100 % on imports. In this study, we have derived the main specifications to develop the initial hull forms of a 18.5ft bass boat through statistical analysis based on mothership data. In addition, CFD numerical analysis was carried out according to deadrise angle and longitudinal center of gravity, which strongly influenced the resistance and planing performance. For numerical analysis, design speed was set to $Fn=3.284 (Re=9.858{\times}10^7)$, the deadrise angle was set from 12 to $20^{\circ}$, and the longitudinal center of gravity was set in the range of 0 to $8%L_{wL}$ from the center of buoyancy to the stern. Based on the numerical results, we first set the range of these factors by resistance performance and immersion keel length. Furthermore, using a correlation graph of Savitsky's Drag-Lift ratio, we derived the deadrise angle ($14-16^{\circ}$) and longitudinal center of gravity ($4-6%L_{wL}$).

  • A reduced order observer is developed for depth control of a hybrid underwater glider which combines the good aspects of a conventional autonomous underwater vehicle and a underwater glider. State variables include the center of gravity of the robot and the weight of the buoyancy bag, which can not be directly measured. By using the mathematical model and available information such as directional velocities, accelerations, and attitudes, we developed a Luenberger's reduced order observer to estimate the center of gravity and the buoyancy weight. By simulations using Matlab/Simulink, the efficiency of the proposed observer is shown, where a LQR controller using full state variables is adopted as a depth controller.

  • In This Paper, alternative method fur data pattern estimation is proposed and its numerical experiment is carried out. Proposed method gives candidates cluster numbers of given data set between n-2 and 2 by means of movement of the center of gravity. To observe the performance of proposed method, Test sample data sets are offered. Finally, this method is applied to Box and Jenkins's gas furnace data to verify the performance with previous researches.

Spectral Characteristics of Frication Noise in Korean Sibilants (한국어 치찰음의 마찰구간의 스펙트럼 특성)

  • This study investigates spectral characteristics of frication noise in Korean sibilants in terms of center of gravity and skewness. Specifically, the present study seeks to observe the two parameters with emphasis on place of articulation in different vowel environments. This study also examines whether these parameters can discriminate phonation types. The results showed that the fricatives are palatalized in front of the front vowel /i/ and the affricates are articulated at the same place of articulation regardless of the following vowels. This study also suggests that the place of articulation of the fricatives followed by /i/ is the same as those of the Korean affricates. With regard to the phonation type, there was a significant difference in the center of gravity between lax and tense series for both fricatives and affricates.

  • 본 논문에서는 수면파(Surface wave)와 수중파 (Internal wave)간의 동적 상관관계에 관하여 수행된 연구결과를 정리하였다. 표면파의 비선형 문제는 파의 경사매개변수를 2차원으로 가정하여 해석하였으며, Cauchy 문제는 불균일 조류상의 균일 수면중력파에 대하여 해석하였다. 또한, 파의 경사, 주기의 범위(Frequency range) 그리고 자유표면하의 조류의 분포들간의 조화에 대한 연구가 수행되었으며 해류 및 이동파와 연계되어 수중파의 최전 후방에 형성될 수 있는 정적 파형 (Steady wave pattern)이 수면파형에 포함되었다.

  • This study presents a method to evaluate overturning safety and derailment safety of korean tilting train using kinematic analysis of four-bar linkage tilting mechanism. The safety is evaluated considering tilting vehicle body CG displacement. The design sensitivity for stable and safe maximum speed is evaluated around current korean tilting train design data. The current design shows minimum center of gravity displacement. Higher speed can be achieved with larger center of gravity displacement.
