In a survey of undiscovered taxa in Korea, three zygomycete fungal strains-EML-W31, EML-HGD1-1, and EML-RUS1-1-were isolated from freshwater, grasshopper fecal, and soil samples in Korea. On the basis of the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of internal transcribed spacer and 28S rDNA, the isolates of EML-W31, EML-HGD1-1, and EML-RUS1-1 were confirmed to be Cunninghamella bertholletiae, Cunninghamella echinulata, and Cunninghamella elegans, respectively. These species have not been previously described in Korea.

While evaluating fungal diversity in freshwater, grasshopper feces, and soil collected at Dokdo Island in Korea, four fungal strains designated CNUFC-DDS14-1, CNUFC-GHD05-1, CNUFC-DDS47-1, and CNUFC-NDR5-2 were isolated. Based on combination studies using phylogenies and morphological characteristics, the isolates were confirmed as Ascodesmis sphaerospora, Chaetomella raphigera, Gibellulopsis nigrescens, and Myrmecridium schulzeri, respectively. This is the first records of these four species from Korea.
Achieving sustainable spaces is one of the emerging trends of tall buildings regarding their significant impacts on the cities. Reducing energy consumption and material using is investigated as a widely used approach to achieve more efficient tall buildings. Defining more efficient geometries and form modifications have been adopted for this goal. In this paper the effect of plan shape and diagrid angle on structural efficiency of diagrid tall buildings have been studied. A parametric workbench is applied to generate and analyze models. The goal is to find effective form parameters resulting in more efficient forms. Respectively, all models were generated in Rhino/grasshopper architecturally and analyzed by a finite element plug-in structurally. Based on the results, steeper angles almost cause more displacements and needs to be more stiffened. it can be seen almost more sided models need less weight for the structures and it could lead to more efficient forms.

Grasshoppers play vital role in the digestion of photosynthetically fixed carbons. With the aid of intestinal microflora, the grasshopper can degrade leaves constituents such as cellulose and hemicellulose. The purpose of this study was to examine cellulolytic yeast isolates from the gut of grasshoppers collected in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Among the yeast isolates, ON2, ON17 (two strains), and ON6 (one strain) showed positive cellulolytic activity in the CMC-plate assay. The sequence analyses of D1/D2 domains of the large subunit rDNA gene and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions revealed that the strains ON2 and ON17 were most closely related to Papiliotrema aspenensis CBS $13867^T$ (100%, sequence similarity in D1/D2 domains; 99.4% sequence similarity in ITS) and strain ON6 related to Saitozyma flava (100% in D1/D2 domains; 99.0% in ITS). All these three yeast strains are capable of degrading cellulose; therefore, the members of endosymbiotic yeasts may produce their own enzymes for carbohydrate degradation and convert mobilized sugar monomers to volatile fatty acids. Thus, the endosymbiotic yeast strains ON2, ON17 (represents the genus Papilioterma) and ON6 (Saitozyma) belonging to the family Tremellomycetes, are unreported strains in Korea.

Studies were carried out to determined the optimal conditions of processing and changes in trypsin indigestible substrate(TIS) and in vitro protein digestibility of paddy grasshopper(Oxya chinensis formosana) under various drying conditions. The multienzyme assy and amino acid compositions were used to predict the quality changes of dried products. The in vitro protein digestidility of defatted products were higher than that of sun and hot air dried products. This results indicated that heat processing is decreased the digestibility, but is increased the TIS contents of dried samples. Amino acid composition of the products was comparable to the ANRC casein scoring pattern. The protein was espeoially low in the amount of lysine, tryptophan and methionine, but high in the quantity of aspartic acid, glutamic acid and arginine indicating that it could be a difference of the dry processing. C-PER and DC-PER were 2.65 and 2.44, respectively, in the defatted and freeze dried products and 2.49 and 2.30, respectively, in hot air dried products. From the these results, it could be confirmed that defatted and freeze dried products might be utilized with feed or foodstuff, unless the toxic substances were no longer detectable.
Activated microglia, induced by various pathogens, protect neurons and maintain homeostasis of the central nervous system (CNS). However, severe activation causes neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease because of the secretion of various neurotoxic molecules, such as nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin (PG), and pro-inflammatory cytokines. Because chronic microglial activation endangers neuronal survival, negative regulators of microglial activation have been identified as potential therapeutic candidates for treatment of many neurological diseases. One potential source of these regulators is Locusta migratoria, a grasshopper of the Acrididae, usually 4-6 cm in size, belonging to the family of large insects in Acrididae. This grasshopper is an edible insect resource that can be consumed by humans as protein source or used for animal feed. The aim of the present study was to examine the inhibitory effects of a L. migratoria ethanol extract (LME) on the production of inflammatory mediators in LPS-stimulated BV-2 microglia cells. The extract significantly inhibited the NO, iNOS, COX-2, and pro-inflammatory cytokine ($TNF-{\alpha}$, IL-6 and $IL-1{\beta}$) levels in BV-2 microglia cell. Because the inhibition of microglial activation may be an effective solution for treating brain disorders like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, these results suggest that LME may be a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of brain disorders induced by neuroinflammation.
This study was designed to investigate whether extracts from Oxya chinensis sinuosa Mistshenk (an edible insect considered a grasshopper) could inhibit the activity of carbohydrate digestive enzymes and alleviate postprandial hyperglycemia in diabetic mice. Oxya chinensis sinuosa Mistshenk was extracted with 80% ethanol (OEE) or water (OWE) and then concentrated. The carbohydrate digestive enzyme-inhibiting activity of the resulting extracts was evaluated by examining α-glucosidase and α-amylase. The IC50 values of OEE against α-glucosidase and α-amylase were 0.229 mg/ml and 0.106 mg/ml, respectively. This result indicated that OEE has stronger inhibitory effects than OWE and positive control. The blood glucose levels of the diabetic control mice increased after one meal. However, when OEE (300 mg/kg) was added to starch, this increase in postprandial blood glucose levels was significantly suppressed. The area under the curve also significantly decreased following the administration of OEE, which exhibited no cytotoxicity. These results indicate that OEE is more efficacious than OWE and may be used as a carbohydrate digestive enzyme inhibitor, delay carbohydrate digestion and glucose absorption, and thus alleviate postprandial hyperglycemia caused by dietary carbohydrates.

The objective of this research is to development of a parametric design system for membrane structures. The parametric design platform for the spatial structures has been designed and implemented. Rhino3D is used as a 3D graphic kernel and Grasshopper is introduced as a parametric modeling engine. Modeling components such as structural members, loading conditions, and support conditions are developed for structural modeling of the spatial structures. The interface module with commercial structural analysis programs is implemented. An iterative generation algorithm for design alternatives is a part of the design platform. This paper also proposes a design approach for the parametric design of Spoke Wheel membrane structures. A parametric modeling component is designed and implemented. SOFiSTik is examined to interact with the design platform as the structural analysis module. The application of the developed interface is to design optimally Spoke Wheel Shaped Ductile Membrane Structure using parametric design. It is possible to obtain objective shape by controlling the parameter using a parametric modeling designed for shape finding of spoke wheel shaped ductile membrane structure. Recently, looking at the present Construction Trends, It has increased the demand of the large spatial structure. But, It requires a lot of time for Modeling design and the Structural analysis. Finally an optimization process for membrane structures is proposed.
Due to the undeniable importance of approximating the concrete compressive strength (CSC) in civil engineering, this paper focuses on presenting four novel optimizations of multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network, namely artificial bee colony (ABC-MLP), grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA-MLP), shuffled frog leaping algorithm (SFLA-MLP), and salp swarm algorithm (SSA-MLP) for predicting this crucial parameter. The used dataset consists of 103 rows of information concerning seven influential parameters (cement, slag, water, fly ash, superplasticizer, fine aggregate, and coarse aggregate). In this work, the best-fitted complexity of each ensemble is determined by a population-based sensitivity analysis. The GOA distinguished its self by the least complexity (population size = 50) and emerged as the second time-effective optimizer. Referring to the prediction results, all tested algorithms are able to construct reliable networks. However, the SSA (Correlation = 0.9652 and Error = 1.3939) and GOA (Correlation = 0.9629 and Error = 1.3922) performed more accurately than ABC (Correlation = 0.7060 and Error = 4.0161) and SFLA (Correlation = 0.8890 and Error = 2.5480). Therefore, the SSA-MLP and GOA-MLP can be promising alternatives to laboratorial and traditional CSC evaluative methods.
