  • An interrupted time series analysis of local directory assistance calls in the Taegu area from November 1, 1996 to February 28, 1997 revealed a gradual/permanent reduction in daily frequency of calls after charges were introduced in January 1, 1997. Even though the results cannot attest to the sbrupt/permanent reduction effect of response cost we expected, the reduction after charging may contribute to the efficacy of work and the improvement of service quality.

Study on Photocatalytic Cr(VI) Reduction with Metal Deposited Anodized $TiO_2$ Tube (금속담지된 $TiO_2$ 나노튜브를 활용한 Cr(VI)환원의 광화학적 효율 연구)

  • The present work is performed to photocatalytically reduce Cr(VI) by means of metal deposited anodized $TiO_2$ tubes, which are prepared by anodization of Ti foil followed by metal deposition. Stably immobilized photo-reactive materials are favored in the field of detoxification in a conventional aqueous medium, preventing gradual loss of efficiency and process malfunction due to detachment of the materials. The prepared samples are characterized by SEM, TEM, EDAX, and photocurrent. The metal deposited-$TiO_2$ electrode shows higher efficiency for Cr(VI) reduction (ca. 20%) and higher ability for adsorption (4~5 times) than pure one.

Sensitivity analysis of flexural strength of RC beams influenced by reinforcement corrosion

  • The corrosion of reinforcement leads to a gradual decay of structural strength and durability. Several models for crack occurrence prediction and crack width propagation are investigated in this paper. Analytical and experimental models were used to predict the bond strength in the period of corrosion propagation. The manner of flexural strength loss is calculated by application of these models for different scenarios. As a new approach, the variation of the concrete beam neutral axis height has been evaluated, which shows a reduction in the neutral axis height for the scenarios without loss of bond. Alternatively, an increase of the neutral axis height was observed for the scenarios including bond and concrete section loss. The statistical properties of the parameters influencing the strength have been deliberated associated with obtaining the time-dependent bending strength during corrosion propagation, using Monte Carlo (MC) random sampling method. Results showed that the ultimate strain in concrete decreases significantly as a consequence of the bond strength reduction during the corrosion process, when the section reaches to its final limit. Therefore, such sections are likely to show brittle behavior.

  • This study reviewed pension reform's overall characteristic and(anticipated) positive negative effect in OECD countries's and then analysed middle-old age's retirement transition and determinants of full/gradual retirement through the $3{\sim}7th$ Korea Labor and Income Panel considering that Korea has been aging society quickly and it is necessary to suggest not only solution of early retirement and working age reduction but also pension reform. As a result of this study, about 1/4 of 50 years and older have been continuing to work through various pathways after retirement and 98% among fully retired older who passed by re-employment step of occupational status including retirement are still searching for jobs. This showed that it is also inappropriate to typical retirement concept itself on the lines of labour market participation in Korea and part-time/temporary work or self-employment have been used by means of alternatives of maintaining works for middle-old ages. However, the duration of changed occupational status of gradual retirees is mostly only $1{\sim}2$ years. Therefore it is necessary to support the gradual retirement to minimize a term of income insecurity and promote the work of the old ages who have will and capacity of work. Most of all, partial pension system which is main program of gradual retirement, should make the rules that beneficiaries are those who age less than pensionable age and benefit levels should be actuarial fairness together with pension system and provide substantial help. But, the introduction of partial pension system is not the only way to solve and needs overall social economic approach. Especially guarantee the increase of quantitative qualitative employment for middle-old ages linking labor market policy and supporting gradual retirement not ought to be abused to force the part time works and early retirement route against their own will.

NO Adsorption and Catalytic Reduction Mechanism of Electrolytically Copper-plated Activated Carbon Fibers (전해 구리 도금된 활성탄소섬유에 의한 NO의 촉매 환원반응 메커니즘 연구)

  • In this work, the catalytic reduction mechanisms of NO over ACFs/copper prepared by electrolytic copper plating has been studied. It was found that copper content on carbon surfaces increased with increasing the plating time. However, a slightly gradual decrease of adsorption properties, such as, BET specific surface area, was observed in increasing the plating times within the range of well-developed micropore structures. As experimental results, nitric oxide was converted into the nitrogen and oxygen on ACFs and ACFs/copper catalyst surfaces at $500^{\circ}C$. Especially, the surfaces of ACFs/copper catalyst were found to scavenge the oxygen released by catalytic reduction of NO, which could be explained by the presence of another nitric oxide reduction mechanism between ACFs and ACFs/copper catalysts.

  • Since emission regulations for vehicles have become more stringent, SCR technology has drawn a strong attention in order to reduce NOx emissions. Optimal design of a reductant injection nozzle and a multi-hole plate located between the cone and catalyst is critical in that the uniform distribution of reductant is necessary to maximize the NOx conversion efficiency and minimize the slip of reductant in SCR. In this work, an LPG fuel(C3H8 in vapor state) was used as a reductant for LPG vehicles. A Realizable k-$\varepsilon$ model is used for turbulence, and SCR body is defined as porous media with inertia and viscous resistances measured in this work. Effect of the number of nozzle holes on the flow mixing index was analyzed, which revealed that a four hole nozzle shows the best performance in terms of uniformity of flow. An installment of a multi-hole plate at the entrance of catalyst was evaluated with flow mixing index, uniformity of flow, and pressure drop. A multi-hole plate with gradual hole diameter change in three steps showed the best uniformity of flow within the conditions suggested in this work.

  • Weather condition has effect on traffic condition, but there is a lack of research between weather and traffic condition. So, in this study analyzes speed variation according to rainfall intensity in national highway provincial road. The results of the analysis, average speed is reduced about 3.2%. But average speed decrease by maximum 8.8% when traffic volume is below 200vph per direction. Because relatively, free flow traffic speed has greatly deceased according to rainfall intensity in provincial road. Also in this study estimates of speed reduction model according to rainfall and performs the statistical verification. Estimated speed reduction model's slops are gradual when rainfall increased, because average speed is reduced by rainfall when free flow.

  • Laying hens kept in different light and dark periods of the day at high ambient temperature of maximum $35^{\circ}C$ were challenged to $38.5{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ acute heat 3 hours daily for 7 consecutive days. They were found to have a significant (p<0.01) acclimatization response (rectal temperature) to heat stress during the dark period compared to those exposed to the same temperature during the light period. The blood pH was not significantly different. The partial pressure of carbon dioxide ($PCO_2$) was significantly high (p<0.01) except in day 4. Similarly the blood bicarbonate ($HCO_3$) concentration was significantly high (p<0.05) except day three and day four. Acute heat exposure in the first day increased the body temperature in both groups (Light and Dark) reaching $44^{\circ}C$, followed by gradual reduction in body temperature. The dark treated birds showed rapid reduction in body temperature ($42.88^{\circ}C$) and adaptation to high temperature during days 2-4 but that this was lost to some extent in days 6-8. However this was not obvious in the light treated birds. It is concluded that darkness reduce hyperthermia and enhance acclimatization responses during acute heat stress.

Structural and Ferroelectric Properties of PZT Thin Films Deposited on SrRuO3 Electrode Films (SrRuO3 전극 박막 위에 증착된 PZT 박막의 구조 및 강유전 특성)

  • Ferroelectric $Pb(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ (PZT) films were deposited on SrTiO3(100) substrate by using conductive $SrRuO_3$ films as underlayer and their structural and ferroelectric properties were investigated. PZT films were grown in (00l) orientation on well lattice-matched pseudo-cubic $SrRuO_3$ films. Thickness dependence of ferroelectric and electrical properties of PZT films was investigated. PZT film with 400 nm thickness showed a remanent polarization ($P_r$) of $29.0{\mu}C/cm^2$ and coercive field ($E_c$) of 83 kV/cm, and $P_r$ decreased and $E_c$ increased with thickness reduction. The dielectric constant for PZT films showed gradual decrease with thickness reduction. Breakdown field of PZT films did not show the thickness dependence and displayed as high value as 1 MV/cm.

Mobility Reduction Scheduling for High-Level Synthesis (상위수준합성을 위한 배정가능범위 축소 스케줄링)

  • This paper presents a scheduling approach for synthesizing pipelined datapaths under resource constraints. The proposed approach evaluates whether or not a scheduling solution can exist in case an operation temporarily is assigned to the earliest or latest control step among the assignable steps for the operation. If a solution cannot be found, it is impossible to assign the operation to that control step due to a violation against resource constraints, and so we can eliminate that control step among candidate assignable control steps. The proposed algorithm builds up a schedule based on gradual mobility reduction and finds a solution that yields high performance by evaluating on the impact on register assignment. Experiments on benchmarks show that this approach gains a considerable improvement over previous approaches.
