  • Coal ash is known to contain a noticeable amount of valuable elements, including transition metals and lanthanides. Therefore it is quite actual problem to extract them for metallurgy and other applications. This paper presents the results of high gradient magnetic and mechanical separation, microscopy, element analyses and optical spectroscopy of brown coal ash taken from the combustion camera and chimney-stalk of Angren thermal power station. The separated magnetic fraction was 3.4 wt.%, where the content of Fe in ferrospheres increased to 58 wt.%. The highest contents of Fe and rare earth elements were found in the fine fractions of $50-100{\mu}m$. Optical absorption spectroscopy of water solutions of the magnetic fractions revealed $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ ions in the ratio of ~1:1. The separated coal ash could be used for cleaning of technological liquid waste by means of the high gradient magnetic field.

  • The Passive acoustic control is used in various fields, such as structures, automobiles, aircraft and so on. It is used in variety of acoustic field with the absorbing material, as one of the methods which can control the acoustic in optional space. In that case of passive control using this absorption material, it would be important to maximize the control performance of material property, numbers, geometry shape and the attached location of boundary area of the absorbing material. But realistically these variables, specially material Property, have no broad choice. Therefore, the position of absorbing material is the most important variable. In this study, we use the optimization method to minimize acoustic energy of optional space in the interest frequency attaching some absorbing materials to the boundary area. For analysis and optimization, this study uses the FEA and the conjugate gradient method. This optimization process is very efficient and useful in the passive acoustic control.

  • Bacteriophage f2 were treated with ozone at various concentrations for 20 minutes. The inactivation kinetics of f2 phage were examined during ozonation. In order to study the mode of action of ozone on the phage f2, absorption of the phage to the host pili was meassured by utilyzing radioactivity of tritium incorporated into the phage RNA. Sucrose density gradient analysis and electron microscopy were also used to prove the mechanism of ozone inactivation of the phage. Strucural proteins of the phage were broken by ozonation into many protein subunits. The extent of phage breakage was proportional to ozone concentration and reaction time. Percent decrease of the phage absorption to the host pili was coincident with the rate of ozone inactivation of the phage. Ozone inactivation of bacteriophage f2 was shown to be caused by the breakage of the structural protein and blockage of the phage absorption to the host pili.

  • Effects of viscoelastic foundation on vibration of curved-beam structure with clamped and simply-supported boundary conditions is investigated in this study. In doing so, a micro-scale laminate composite beam with two piezoelectric face layer with a carbon nanotube reinforces composite core is considered. The whole beam structure is laid on a viscoelastic substrate which normally occurred in actual conditions. Due to small scale of the structure non-classical elasticity theory provided more accurate results. Therefore, nonlocal strain gradient theory is employed here to capture both nano-scale effects on carbon nanotubes and microscale effects because of overall scale of the structure. Equivalent homogenous properties of the composite core is obtained using Halpin-Tsai equation. The equations of motion is derived considering energy terms of the beam and variational principle in minimizing total energy. The boundary condition is assumed to be clamped at one end and simply supported at the other end. Due to nonlinear terms in the equations of motion, semi-analytical method of general differential quadrature method is engaged to solve the equations. In addition, due to complexity in developing and solving equations of motion of arches, an artificial neural network is design and implemented to capture effects of different parameters on the inplane vibration of sandwich arches. At the end, effects of several parameters including nonlocal and gradient parameters, geometrical aspect ratios and substrate constants of the structure on the natural frequency and amplitude is derived. It is observed that increasing nonlocal and gradient parameters have contradictory effects of the amplitude and frequency of vibration of the laminate beam.

  • Intestinal absorption of ${\beta}-lactam$ antibiotics and angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitors has been shown to use the carrier-mediated transport system. In vitro experiments have established that the efficacy of uptake by enterocytes depends on an inwardly directed proton gradient. It was suggested that benazepril was mediated by tripeptide transport system and that amoxicillin was transported by dipeptide transport carrier. The aim of this study is to assess the influence of amoxicillin on the intestinal absorption of benazepril using in vitro diffusion chamber and in situ single pass perfusion technique in the rat in order to elucidate whether the above transport systems are competitive or not. We obtained the gastrointestinal pemeability coefficient of amoxicillin, benazepril and both of them using in vitro diffusion chamber. And also the gastrointestinal absorption clearance of amoxicillin, benazepril and both of them using in situ single-pass perfusion method at steady state were calculated. Amoxicillin and benazepril were analyzed by HPLC. The results by the use of diffusion chamber in vitro indicated that the apparent intestinal permeability coefficient of benazepril was significantly(p<0.01) decreased by amoxicillin(45.2%) and vice versa significantly(p<0.01) decreased(89.1%). The results by the in situ gastrointestinal single-pass perfusion method indicated that the intestinal absorption clearance of benazepril was significantly(p<0.05) decreased by amoxicillin (40.2%) and vice versa significantly(p<0.05) decreased(54.8%). These results might suggest that they share the same peptide carrier pathway for oral absorption.

  • We have studied the radial g-r color gradients of early-type galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) DR6 in the redshift range 0.00 < z < 0.06. The color profiles of ~30 per cent of the galaxies in this sample show positive color gradients (centers being bluer). These positive gradient galaxies often show strong $H\beta$ absorption line strengths or emission line ratios that are consistent with star-forming populations. Combining the optical data with Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) UV photometry, we find that all positive gradient galaxies show blue UV-optical colors. They also exhibit a tendency of having a lower stellar velocity dispersion. Positive gradient galaxies tend to live in lower density regions than negative gradient galaxies and are likely to have a late-type companion galaxy. On the other hand, massive early-type galaxies show negative color gradients. A simplistic population analysis shows that these positive color gradients are visible only for half a billion years after a star burst. Although the effective radius decreases and mean surface brightness increases due to this centrally concentrated star formation, the positions of the positive gradient galaxies on the fundamental plane cannot be reproduced by any amount of recent star formation. Instead it required a lower velocity dispersion.

  • We investigated thermal behavior of spin-coated films of P(HB-co-HHx)/PEG blends by using infraredreflection absorption (IRRAS) spectroscopy and 2D correlation spectroscopy. Based on 2D IRRAS correlation spectra, we could determine the sequence of spectral intensity changes with increasing temperature that PEG band changes first and then a band for crystalline component of P(HB-co-HHx) changes before a band for amorphous component. The intensities of bands for PEG and amorphous P(HB-co-HHx) were changed greatly as PEG weigh % of P(HB-co-HHx)/PEG blends increased. Transition temperatures of P(HB-co-HHx)/PEG blends were successfully determined by 2D gradient mapping method. The transition temperature of spincoated films of 98/2 and 90/10 P(HB-co-HHx)/PEG blends and 80/20 P(HB-co-HHx)/PEG blend determined by 2D gradient map are, respectively, about 137.5 and $132.5^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, P(HB-co-HHx)/PEG blends show an additional transition temperature that have been interpreted in terms of different lamellar thicknesses in spin coated films.

  • The purposes of this paper were to monitor the temperature rising courses and spark discharge of the modified granular activated carbon (GAC) by microwave (MW) irradiation and to evaluate absorption of benzene. The GAC coated on $SiO_2$, boron, talc, ferrite was named as the modified GAC. Thermal and spark discharge measurement of virgin GAC and modifed GAC has been carried out using a MW device operating at 2450 MHz under various energy conditions. The results of this paper as follows. First, the modified GAC is more efficient than the virgin GAC in temperature control. Temperature gradient of the modified GAC is more lower than that of virgin GAC. The temperature gradient of GAC was observed in the following order : virgin GAC, Mn-Zn ferrite/GAC, Ni-Zn ferrite,/GAC, $SiO_2/GAC$, Boron/GAC, Talc/GAC. Second, the spark discharge of the modified GAC was diminished, compared with that of virgin GAC. Because of its excellent electrical insulating properties, the coating material prevents the spark discharge. Finally, the benzene adsorption capacity of the modified GAC decreased due to diminishing of adsorption site by the coating material. Considering the temperature gradient and spark discharge of GAC, the GAC coated $SiO_2$ would be appropriate absorbent under irradiation of MW.

  • A method of measuring the thermal diffusivity of semi-infinite solid material at room temperature using photothermal displacement is proposed. In previous works, within the constant thickness of material, the thermal diffusivity was determined by the magnitude and phase of deformation gradient as the relative position between the pump and probe beams. In this study, however, a complete theoretical treatment of the photothermal displacement technique has been performed for thermal diffusivity measurement in semi-infinite solid materials. The influence of parameters, such as, radius and modulation frequency of the pump beam and the thermal diffusivity, was studied. We propose a simple analysis method based on the zero -crossing position of real part of deformation gradient and the minimum position of phase as the relative position between two beams. It is independent of parameters such as power of pump beam, absorption coefficient, reflectivity, Poisson's ratio, and thermal expansion coefficient.

  • A complete theoretical treatment of the photothermal displacement technique has been performed for thermal diffusivity measurement in semi-infinite solid materials. The influence of the parameters, such as radius and modulation frequency of the heating beam and the thermal diffusivity, was studied. Usually, thermal diffusivity was determined by the deformation angle and phase angle as the relative position between the heating and probe beams. In this study, we proposed the simple analysis method based on the real part of deformation gradient as the relative position between two beams. It is independent in the parameters such as power of heating beam, absorption coefficient, reflectivity, Poisson's ratio, and thermal expansion coefficient.
