The Analysis of Electromyography during Professional & Amateur Golfer's Iron Swing (프로와 아마추어 골퍼의 미들 아이언 스윙에 관한 근전도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to describe and compare the selected electromyographical muscle activities of trunk and hip during Professional and Amateur golfer's Iron swing. Using surface electromyography, we evaluated muscle activities in 6 male professional golfers and 6 male amateur golfers during the golf iron swing. Surface electrodes were used to record the level of muscle activity in the right abdominal oblique, left abdominal oblique, right erector spinae, left erector spinae, right rectus abdominis, left rectus abdominis, right gluteus maximus, left gluteus maximus muscles during the golfer's swing. These signals were compared with IEMG(Integrated EMG) which was normalized by %RVC(Reference voluntary contraction). The golf swing was divided into three phases: take away, forward swing-acceleration, follow-through. We observed patterns of trunk muscle activity throughout three phases of the golf swing. The results can be summarized as follows: LES(Left Erector spinae) had statistically significant difference in take away and forward swing-acceleration phases. It was showed no significant difference in follow-through phase.

Differences in Lower Extremity Electromyographic Responses Based on Foot Position and Swing Phase in Golf Driver Swings

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the muscle activity of the lower extremity during driver swing in three-foot positions (Feet Open Stance, Feet Straight Stance, Lead Foot Open Stance). The electromyograms of gastrocnemius, tibialis anterior, and vastus lateralis during swing were measured and analyzed in three sections (take away - back swing, back swing - down swing, and down swing - follow swing). There was no significant difference in muscle activity according to foot position. Muscle activity according to phase was significantly higher in right gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior, and the left and right vastus lateralis in down swing - follow swing. In conclusion, the difference in muscle activity according to foot position is insignificant, and it is considered that the muscle activity to maintain the balance of the body increases toward the end of swing.

The Effect of Wear ing Spandex Wear with Compression Band on Biomechanical Parameters during a Golf Drive Swing (골프 드라이브 스윙 시 압축 밴드를 적용한 기능성 의류가 신체의 운동역학적 변인에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine how spandex wear with compressive band affects biomechanical parameters during a golf swing. Nine male golf players, each with at least 6 years golf experienc(handy 4.5${\pm}$5.4), were recruited as the participants. Eight pairs of surface electrodes were attached to the left and right side of the body to monitor the pectoralis major(PM), external abdominal oblique(AO), erector spinae(ES), and vastus lateralis(VL). This study showed that the angular velocity of the club in EG were increased during the down swing phase but X-Factor and X-factor Stretch were reduced. Average and maximum nEMG (normalized EMG) values of the left AO(external abdominal oblique) were less in EG(experimental group) compared with CG(control group) during the back swing, whereas those of left PM(pectoralis major) in EG were greater than CG. It is more likely that EG performed effectively golf swing without excess muscle activity. Thus, the spandex wear with compressive band played an important role in improving swing performance with injury prevention. This has led to suggestions of the need for further kinetic and kinematic analyses to evaluate its function.

Mediation Effect of Flow of Leisure in the Relation among Middle-aged Women's Interesting Factor of Golf and Intention of Continuous Behavior (중년여성의 골프재미요인과 지속행동의도 관계에서 여가몰입의 매개효과)

  • This study analyzed the relation among middle-aged women's interesting factor of golf and intention of continuous behavior and verified the mediation effect of Flow in leisure. The purpose is to clarify the process in which middle-aged women'change their life to positive direction through golf activity and to provide basic data on the basis of theoretic fundamental. The data was processed with Confirmatory Factor Analysis(CFA) & Structural Equation Model(SEM) by using Exploratory Factor Analysis(EFA) & AMOS 25.0 statistical program through SPSS 25.0 Window Version. The result is as follows. First, interesting factor of golf is found to have significant influence on Flow of leisure. Second, interesting factor of golf is found to have significant influence on intention of continuous behavior. Third, Flow of leisure is found to have significant influence on intention of continuous behavior. Finally, Flow of leisure is found to have partial mediation effect in the relation among interesting factor of golf and intention of continuous behavior. Thus, it is judged that enjoyment should be ensured precedently through the interesting factors of golf to develop golf industry and to induce middle-aged women golf participants to golf course. It is thought that diversified methods which can increase satisfaction by utilizing leisure immersion and which can ensure constant participation for this purpose.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of modified golf swing training on gait characteristic in hemiplegic patient through Kwon 3D motion analysis system. Methods: This study has performed single subject design from September to October 2008. The subject had left hemiplegia due to CVA in December 2003. He has treated Bobath approach twice a week. In order to increase ankle dorsiflexion and knee flexion, the subject has applied modified golf swing training on the basis of Bobath approach. The measurement of gait characteristic was taken by Kwon 3D motion analysis system. Results: The results were as follows : 1) Walking velocity was increased 0.62m/sec than before the training. 2) Step length was increased 0.09m than before the training. 3) Left ankle and hip angle were increased, but left knee angle was decreased. Conclusion: It could be concluded that the activity modified golf swing training in walking pattern contributed to improve the movement quality and speed of gait.

Multiple Cervical Spinous Process Fractures in a Novice Golf Player

  • Avulsion of spinous process, also called Clay-shoveler's fracture, is most prevalent among those engaged in hard physical labor. To the best of the author's knowledge, only one case of multiple spinous process fractures of the upper thoracic spine in a novice golfer has been reported. A 45-year-old female presented with intractable posterior neck pain. The patient experienced a sharp, sudden pain on the neck while swinging a golf club, immediately after the club head struck the ground. Dynamic cervical radiographic findings were C6 and C7 spinous process fractures. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed C6 and C7 spinous process fractures without spinal cord pathology. The patient was treated with pain medications and cervical bracing. The patient's pain gradually improved. The injury mechanism was speculated to be similar to Clay-shoveler's fracture. Lower cervical spinous process fractures can be associated with a golf swing. If the patient complains of long lasting neck pain and has a history of golf activity, further study should be conducted to rule out lower cervical spinous fracture.

The Effect of the Modified Bent Arm Torando Exercises to Weight Movement and Muscle Activity when Doing Drive Swing Motion from the Top to Impact Section

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of the modified bent arm tornado exercise on weight shift movement and muscle activity of the impact section in the top of the drive swing. Methods: Twenty subjects were divided professional golfer group and amateur golf group. Subjects were required to complete following modified bent arm tornado exercise. The activity and weight shift of the gluteus group and lower extremity muscles between the two groups were measured and the Wilcoxon rank test was analyzed. Results: The distribution of weight shift in the professional golfer group was higher than that of the amateur golfer group (p<0.05). During the golf downswing of the professional golfer group, muscle activation of the lower extremities was higher than that of the amateur golfer group (p<0.05). The distribution of weight shift after exercise by the amateur golfer group was higher than before (p<0.05). Conclusion: We could confirm was increased significantly of muscle activity and weight shift by applying modified bent arm tornado exercise through this study. This result suggests that exercise is needed to improve weight shift.

Seasonal Earthworm Casting Activity on Korean Golf Courses (골프장에서 지렁이 분변토 발생의 계절적 변화)

  • Earthworm cast occurred in surface of turfgrass in golf courses which affect turfgrass maintenance and golf play. In this study several survey of seasonal fluctuation of earthworm cast in different golf courses (Anseong, Gapyeong, Gunpo and Yongin in Gyeonggi province, and Geumjeong in Busan) was done. A number of earthworm, soil temperature and moisture of detection site of earthworm cast in each golf course were also done. Cast occurred in different golf courses are found mostly from April to November on turf surface and the cast number varied in different month as well as in golf courses. In the same golf courses, a number of detected cast was difference from individual sites. A number of cast and earthworm was correlated. Also, in higher soil moisture showed the higher cast density in different golf courses. Soil temperature and moisture of detecting cast ranging from $2.1^{\circ}C$ to $33.1^{\circ}C$ and 4.9 to 44.1%, respectively. In case of cast, soil temperature level lies in between $10-15^{\circ}C$ where the highest soil moisture was 25%.

Suppression of Rhizoctonia spp. by Antagonistic Microorganisms and Their Compatibility with Fungicides (길항미생물에 의한 Rhizoctonia spp.의 억제 및 길항미생물의 농약 혼용시 생존율)

  • 174 isolates of soil microorganisms were isolated from E-golf club from Apr.1997 through Oct. 1997. And 27 strains of them were selected through the inhihition test of mycelial growth. In the same period, soil-borne diesease pathogens, "Rhizoctonia", causing Large patch, Brown patch, Spring dead spot, and Yellow patch were isolated from the diseased areas in E-golf and S-golf club. The antagonistic activity of the strains against the pathogens was tested to select the excel-lent antagonists. In contact with the fungicides, the survivability of the antagonists was tested to assess the compatibility of the antagonists with the pesticides. The results were as follows: 1.Suppression of Rhizoctonia by Antagonists. Antagonistic activity of 27 strains against the pathogens was: tested in vitro. In the result, 3 isolates(B-7, B-15, B-41) of bacteria and 2 isolates(F-5, F-47) of fungi were superior to the rest. 2.Compatibility of the antagonists: with the fungicides: With 13 kinds of pesticides widely using Golf Club, Compatibility of 5 antagonists: were finally tested to select the strains: that mostly survived in contact with pesticides. In the results:, two of five strains: were selected : one strain was bacteria B-15, the other strain was fungi F-47. 24h after the mixing with pesticides:, these two strains were shown to survive at 90% level and these were identified as Bacillus and Trichoderma, respectively. And the most compatible pesticides: with the antagonists were shown to Polytoxin-D thirarn(s:urvivability 99.4%) and Validamycin-A (survivability 98.6%). Investigation of Host Plants and Seasonal Occurrence of Popillia flavosellata (Coleoptera: Rutelidae) in Golf Courses (골프장의 참콩풍뎅이 성충 기주식물과 계절적 발생 조사)

  • Host plants of Popillia flavosellata (Coleoptera: Ruteridae) were investigated at the courses of three golf clubs, East Valley Golf Club, Anyang Benest Golf Club, and Anseong Benest Golf Club and their surrounded forests. In addition, seasonal occurrence was examined from East Valley Golf Club using Japanese beetle pheromone lure and a eugenol feeding attractant. Twenty six species of 25 genera in 18 families were recorded as hosts of P. flavosellata from given surveyed golf clubs. Out of them, 22 species of 21 genera in 15 families were newly recorded host plants of P. flavosellata. Thus, host plants of P. flavosellata were 49 species of 41 genera in 23 families in total including hosts from literatures. The main damage part of P. flavosellata adult was flower of host plants. Peak activity of P. flavosellata adult was observed around 20 June. Mean numbers of attracted P. flavosellata adults at the peak day were 197.6/trap/day in 2008 and 268.1 in 2010, respectively. Occurrence of P quadriguttata was much lower compared with P. flavosellata at the given golf club. That is, mean numbers of attracted P quadriguttata adults from the same trap at the peak: day were 0.4/trap/day in 2008 and 2010, respectively.
