  • The purpose of this study is to consider incense culture found in costume and life in forms of carrying and decoration. Here, incense for carrying and decoration is classified into two cases, using it as a costume accessory and life space. Hyangjumony, Hyangnorigae, Hyangjul, Hyangdae and Hyangseonchu were costume accessories. Hyangjumony was not only used for the royal palanguin, but also for bedroom. When Poetic Literature, and other ancient publications were reviewed in regard to incense for carrying and decoration, it was estimated that incense began to be carried for the first time before the late period of Shilla(9C). In addition, it was found that incense was not just a personal taste, but one of important gifts exchanged between states, envoys of different nations and between sovereign and subject and that incense was a necessary costume accessory for men. Types of incense for carrying and decoration used in this nation are classified into Hyangjumony, Hyangnorigae, Hyangjul and Hyangseonchu. Hyangjumony is a fabric pouch that contains incense. Hyangnorigae is Norigae whose main material is incense. Hyangjul is a string to which incense is hanged. Hyangseonchu is Seonchu whose main material is incense. Incense for carrying and decoration was based on five colors that symbolize cosmic order and harmony, of which red and purple were mostly used. Red strongly suggests expelling Yin with Yang, or exorcism. The color gives a strong impression, so it was often used to make a carried incense more decorating. Main materials of incense for carrying and decoration were gold, silver, precious stone and horsehair. They are different in characteristics, but were used appropriately for incense fragrance and decoration. Patterns mainly used for the incense had shapes of animal, plant, sipjangsaeng and letter. These were all auspicious patterns that symbolize human wishes and desires, especially individual and family happiness.

  • This study is a review of Ipsik, the decorative ornaments found on traditional Korean horsehair hats, known as Ipja, which were worn by men in the late Joseon Dynasty. In a broad sense, Ipsik are regarded as men's accessories. Therefore, although this study is limited to Ipja, it is significant in the sense that it delves into one facet of men's accessories in detail. Because the appearance of the horsehair hats was rather mundane, Ipsik and Ibyeong were added as ornaments. During the Joseon period, various types of hat ornaments existed, named Maeksu, Hosu, Gongjagu, Sangmo, Jingdori, Ijeon, Guyeongja and Ibyeong. A person's social ranking and class could be discerned by the materials used in the Ipsik he wore. Jeongja, a decorative accessory used to attach to an official's hat, was institutionalized in the sixteenth year of King Gongmin's reign(1367), during the Goryeo Dynasty, prior to the founding of China's Ming Dynasty in 1368, which indicates that Jeongja were influenced by the Yuan Dynasty. A record in Lao Chi'ta (a textbook of spoken Chinese estimated circa 1346) confirms this fact. Based on a review of literature, we learn that just as with Ongno, Jeongja were imported for use on Jeonrip, a soldier's hat. During the Ching Dynasty, Jeongja were further subdivided and more exquisitely designed. On the other hand, in the Joseon Dynasty, a rule was handed down mandating that a royal prince use gold for his jeongja, officials at third rank or above use silver, and governors, commanders in chief, and officials with the Office of Inspector General and Office of Censor General use jade. Inspectors were permitted to use crystal. Jeongja made of jade were used until the late Joseon Dynasty.

  • The article aims to making a comparison between traditional Korean and Western furniture metal handles to give the detail information of the handle terms by analyzing the related literature including internet and interviews. In terms of that, the Korean and Western metal handles are compared in the types, components, materials, methods, and terms affecting the development made by the craftsmen before the Industrial Revolution about the mid or late 18th century. As a result, first, ring and drop pull handles were mostly and wooden knobs were a little used to open the furniture doors and drawers. The Korean drop pulls, Deulswae, came out after the ring pulls, Gori, while the Western drops called loop or bail handles as well, came out before the ring pulls. Second, the components were composed by ring, Gori, loop or bail, Deulswae, Post, Baemok, washer, Baemokbatchim, and backplate, Deulswaebatchim. Most of the Western handles were fastened by the bolt and nut, while the post of two strips, Baemok, fastened the Korean metal handles. Third, the metal handles were created of brass and iron mostly, gilded gold and silver. Forth, the method were largely used by casting, engraving, forging, plating, and hammering in the Korean handles, and by casting, molding, engraving, and stamped in the Western handles. Finally, the terms such as "knobs, pulls, drops, ring and drop pulls, loop or bail handles, posts, washers, backplate, casting, molding, engraving, forging, plating, and stamped" were clarified by the two comparison in Korean and English.

  • Recently, as titanium and titanium alloys are being increasingly used in wide areas, there are on-going researches to obtain high quality weld zone. In particular, growing interest is being drawn to laser welding, which involves low heat input and large aspect ratio in various welding processes and can facilitate shield in atmospheric condition compared with electron beam welding. The first report covered the analysis of embrittlement by the bead color of weld zone through quantitative analysis of oxygen and nitrogen and measurement of hardness as basic experiment to apply laser welding to titanium. Results indicated that the element that affect embrittlement the most was nitrogen, and as embrittlement and oxygenation go on, bead color changed to silver, gold, brown, blue and gray. This study performed butt welding of pure titanium and STS304 by using 1kW CW Nd:YAG laser, and to find out basic physical properties, evaluated welding performance by laser output, welding speed, root gap and misalignment etc, and examined mechanical properties through tensile stress and Erichsen test. The reason particles of pure titanium welded metal and HAZ are greater than STS304 is because they are pure metal and do not include many impure elements that work as nuclei in case of resolidification, thus becoming coarse columnar crystals eventually. In addition, the reason STS304 requires more energy during welding than pure titanium is because the particle size of base metal is smaller.

  • The Charyong batholith extends northeasterly from the west coast to the west of Wonju in the central parts of Korean Penninsula. The batholith is separated by the metamorphic complex into the northern and the southern granites. and is believed to intrude during the Daebo orogeny of early Jurassic to early Cretaceous age. It constitutes a sort of anticlinorium and the metamorphic complex can be regarded as a huge roof pendant. The modal analysis indicates that the Charyong batholith belongs to a series of adamellite-granodiorte-to-nalite. The oxidation property happened during a magmatic segregation reveals that the batholith shows in general orogenic assimilation trend. The granites of early to middle Jurassic age show orogenic assimilation trend, whereas those of late Jurassic to early Cretaceous age post orogenic noassimilation trend. The fracture system of the whole region is two folds: the fractures having attitute of $N25{\sim}40^{\circ}E$ and $70^{\circ}SE$ are regarded as tension fractures, and those of NS, and 50E to vertical and $N50^{\circ}E$ and $80^{\circ}E$ to vertical as shear fractures. All these facts suggest definitely that the Charyong batholith is the syntectonic intrusives during the Daebo orogeny. The mineral deposits in the area studied are gold-silver deposits in majority which was named by O,J.Kim(1970) as the Chonan metallogenic province. They are sulfides baring quartz veins which were emplaced along the tension and shear fractures originated by the Daebo orogeny.

  • Recently, the amount of electronic scrap is rapidly increasing due to the rapid growth of the electronics industry. Among the components of electronic scrap, the printed circuit board(PCB) is an important recycling target which includes common metals, precious metals, and rare metals such as gold, silver, copper, tin, nickel and so on. In Korea, however, PCB recycling technologies are mainly commercialized by some major companies, and other process quantities are not accurately counted. According to present situation, several urban mining companies, research institutes, and universities are conducting research on recovery of valuable metals from PCBs and/or reusing them as raw materials that is different from existing commercialization process developed by major companies. In this study, we analyzed not only current status of collection/disposal process and recycling of waste PCBs in Korea but also the trend of recycling technologies in order to help resource circulation from waste PCBs become more active.

  • In this study, after measuring polarization characteristics of 97.3 wt% Ag, Au-Coated 97.3 wt% Ag (ACA) and 100 wt% Au wires in 1 wt% H2SO4 and 1 wt% HCl electrolytes at 25 ℃, corrosion rate and corrosion characteristics were comparatively analyzed. Comparing corrosion potential (ECORR) values in sulfuric acid solution, ACA wire had more than six times higher ECORR value than Au wire. Thus, it seems possible to use a broad applied voltage range of bonding wire for semiconductor packaging which ACA wire could be substituted for the Au wire. However, since the ECORR value of ACA wire was three times lower than that of the Au wire in a hydrochloric acid solution, it was judged that the use range of the applied voltage and current of the bonding wire should be considered. In hydrochloric acid solution, 97.3 wt% Ag wire showed the highest corrosion rate, while ACA and Au showed similar corrosion rates. Additionally, in the case of sulfuric acid solution, all three types showed lower corrosion rates than those under the hydrochloric acid solution environment. The corrosion rate was higher in the order of 97.3 wt% Ag > ACA > 100 wt% Au wires.

  • To study the cleaning effects and post-treatment stability assessment of various methods of cleaning textiles with metal thread, six naturally-soiled historical textiles with metal thread were investigated at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Prior to the cleaning of fabricated gold, silver, and copper thread that had been glued onto a paper substrate, the artificial deterioration was carried out in a controlled environment with light(UV and daylight), and temperature and humidity factors which would weaken and damage the samples. A synthetic soil mixture was applied to the samples to imitate soil found on the historic and archaeological textiles with metal thread; the cleaning effect and post-treatment assessment were investigated by use of three textile cleaning methods: mechanical cleaning, wet cleaning, and solvent cleaning. While investigating the naturally-soiled textiles with metal thread, it was determined that the soil colors and sizes of contaminating particles of each textile were different due to the diversity of original environmental factors and conditions. After cleaning with kneaded rubber, Stoddard solvent, n-decane or n-hexane, a bright, clean effect was apparent. Kneaded rubber was successful in picking up both large and small particles, but its stickiness caused some of the metal leaf to peel off. Stoddard solvent produced a good cleaning effect, but after use of n-hexane and n-decane in the cleaning process, a white layer of residue remained on the textile's surface. Wet cleaning was not effective and the rapid humidity changes between wet and dry conditions caused the edges of the paper substrate to lose their original shape.

  • The importance of color is increasing in modern life and we call such present age that is 'color age'. These day that all areas of life are being getting fashionize, ordinary people as well as design specialist are required of culture and knowledge about color. Color design education is important curriculum at liberal arts course and in special design trainning course. Color expresses by hue, value and chroma in Munsell color system. But design spot is using mainly hue and tone color system. Therefore it is very important that educate tone concept in color design education. When think influence that increase of color, we must develop hue and tone color system in suitable for color design education. This research designed usable 'Hue and Tone 313 Colot System' for efficeint sensual color education. Also I designed 313 color papers with attached the Munsell notation which could reappear the spare color paper when needed. The 10 hues classification of this system are Red, Yellow Red, Yellow, Green Yellow, Green, Blue Green, Blue, Purple Blue, Purple, Red Purple. The 19 tones classification of this system are vivid, light, standard, deep, pale, soft, dull, dark, very pale, light grayish, medium grayish, dark grayish, very dark, off White, off Pale, off Light Gray, off Medium Gray, off Dark Gray, off Black. The special colors of this system are gold, silver and copper.
