This paper describes a preliminary work on prosody modeling aspect of a text-to-speech system for Thai. Specifically, the model is designed to predict symbolic markers from text (i.e., prosodic phrase boundaries, accent, and intonation boundaries), and then using these markers to generate pitch, intensity, and durational patterns for the synthesis module of the system. In this paper, a novel method for annotating the prosodic structure of Thai sentences based on dependency representation of syntax is presented. The goal of the annotation process is to predict from text the rhythm of the input sentence when spoken according to its intended meaning. The encoding of the prosodic structure is established by minimizing speech disrhythmy while maintaining the congruency with syntax. That is, each word in the sentence is assigned a prosodic feature called strength dynamic which is based on the dependency representation of syntax. The strength dynamics assigned are then used to obtain rhythmic groupings in terms of a phonological unit called foot. Finally, the foot structure is used to predict the durational pattern of the input sentence. The aforementioned process has been tested on a set of ambiguous sentences, which represents various structural ambiguities involving five types of compounds in Thai.

This paper presents a method of using syntax and shallow semantic analysis for Vietnamese question generation (QG). Specifically, our proposed technique concentrates on investigating both the syntactic and shallow semantic structure of each sentence. The main goal of our method is to generate questions from a single sentence. These generated questions are known as factoid questions which require short, fact-based answers. In general, syntax-based analysis is one of the most popular approaches within the QG field, but it requires linguistic expert knowledge as well as a deep understanding of syntax rules in the Vietnamese language. It is thus considered a high-cost and inefficient solution due to the requirement of significant human effort to achieve qualified syntax rules. To deal with this problem, we collected the syntax rules in Vietnamese from a Vietnamese language textbook. Moreover, we also used different natural language processing (NLP) techniques to analyze Vietnamese shallow syntax and semantics for the QG task. These techniques include: sentence segmentation, word segmentation, part of speech, chunking, dependency parsing, and named entity recognition. We used human evaluation to assess the credibility of our model, which means we manually generated questions from the corpus, and then compared them with the generated questions. The empirical evidence demonstrates that our proposed technique has significant performance, in which the generated questions are very similar to those which are created by humans.

The web-based group collaborative systems are emerging as enterprise-wide information systems. Since data in group collaborative systems are apt to be shared among multiple concurrent users and modified simutaneously by them, the web-based group collaborative systems must support synchronous collaboration in order to provide users with synchronized and consistent views of shared data. This Paper proposes an active web server which can facilitate synchronous collaboration in web-based group collaborative systems. To accomplish such a goal, the active web server manages dependency relationships between shared data and web browsers referencing them and actively propagates changing details of the shared data to all web browsers referencing them. And, this paper examines usefullness and effectiveness of the active web server to apply it to the ball-bearing design example of concurrent engineering design systems. The prototype system of the active web server is developed on a commercial Object-oriented Database Management System (ODBMS) called OBJECTSTORE using the C++ programming language.

This paper aims to account for the backward anaphora that seem to be against the c-command requirements in the anaphor-antecedent relations. It was claimed that the binding conditions should apply at LF fur the backward binding cases involving phych-verbs and causatives. Under the recent development of minimalism where the concept of levels disappears to adopt a cyclic derivation, the data that show the backward binding phenomena have not been discussed in the area of the binding theory. In this paper, I argue that the backward binding cases can be incorporated into the core binding phenomena with the general assumptions on the thematic prominence. It is discussed how the dependency between NPs involving backward anaphora is determined by the thematic prominency. The Agree operation takes place between the probe T and the goal with the uninterpretable u[a] and [prominent] feature, by which an anaphor is valued, producing a proper interpretation.

This paper presents the Allocation Priority Scheme (APS) for multiprocessor system. The objective of APS is to reduce the time-complexity on a Physical Mapping Scheme(PMS). The PMS is to allocate the nodes of the Data Dependency Graph (DDG) to the multprocessors efficiently and effectively. The APS provides the priority to each node (vertex) in the DDG. In other words, the goal of the APS is to find a request resource mapping such that the total cost (time-complexity) is minimized. The special case in which all requests have equal priorities and all resoruces have equal precedences, and the comparisons between our APS and other schems are discussed in the paper. The APS provides the heuristic rules which are based on maximum height (MH), number of children nodes ($N_c$), number of father nodes ($N_f$), and computation time ($T_c$). The estimation moth of the computaion time is in the paper.

The objective of this paper is to develop a new priority setting algorithm that considers the cross-impact of the future technology alternatives and that satisfies the final goal of the technology management through multi-hierarchy evaluation criteria. By combining the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model, which is a well-known priority setting model, and Cross Impact Analysis (CIA) model, which is a technological forecasting method that considers cross-impact among R&D Items, we developed an Integrated Cross-Impact Hierarchical (CIH) model, which sets the priority by considering technological forecasting and technology dependency simultaneously. A step-by-step numerical example of the model developed here is presented as backup of its practicality.
In this paper, we propose an algorithm that distributes processor time to the tasks decoding encoded frames with a goal maximizing total QoS (quality of services) of video conference system. An encoded frame has such a characteristic that the QoS of recovered frame image also increases as the processor time given for decoding the frame gets to increase. Thus, the quality of decoded image for each frame can be represented as a QoS function of the amount of service time given to decode. In addition, every stream of video conference has close time-dependency between continuous frames belonging to the same stream. Based on the time-dependency and QoS functions, we propose an on-line frame scheduling algorithm which does not schedule all frames in the system but just a few frames while maximizing total QoS of video streams in the conference. The simulation results show that, as the system load gets to increase, the proposed algorithm compared to the existing EDF algorithm can reduce the quality of decoded frame images more smoothly and show the movements of conference attendees more naturally without short cutting.
This study aims to examine whether a Parent's Neglecting Attitude affects an Adult Media Immersion and Adolescent' Dependence on mobile phonehas a mediating effect. To achieve this goal, the first year of middle school panel of 'the 6th Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS)' was utilized. To verify the mediating effect of Adolescent' Dependence on mobile phone in the relationship between Parent's Neglecting Attitude by Adolescents and the Adult Media Immersion, Baron & Kenny's mediating effect analysis method was conducted and the analytical findings are shown below. According to this study, first of all, more the Parent's Neglecting Attitude rise to rise the Adult Media Immersion. Second, the Adolescent's Dependence on mobile phone partly mediates the Adult Media Immersion. The practical implications of this results are below : First, we need to make a policy and legal effort to improve the relationship between parents and children. Second, there is a need to practice professional programs in schools, focusing on school social worker. Third, Revision of relevant laws limiting access to adult media is necessary.
Ideograph is a truly unifies data and procedural dependencies. Ideograph can be used to assist various program optimization, such as common expression elimination, code motion, constant folding etc. In this paper, we propose an improved representation of the data and control flow dependencies information for the efficient program execution. In pursuing this goal, we propose a model and in particularly implement a dependency information extractor and information table, which contains data and control flow information per a basic block And then we design and implementation of the optimized abstract syntax tree using Ideograph which has a control flow information and data flow information for source program.
