Further Spirostanol Glycosides from the Tuber of Liriope spicata

  • Further studies have been done on the constituents of the tubers of Liriope spicata $L_{OUR}$ (Liliaceae). Four steroidal glycosides, tentatively designated as compounds I. II, III and IV, were isolated from the n-BuOH soluble fraction of this plant. The structures of these glycosides were established as ${\beta}-sitosterol$ glucoside, prosapogenin II of spicatoside A, ophiopogonin B, and prosapogenin III of spicatoside A.

  • A rare flavonol glycoside identified as $eupalitin-3-O-{\beta}-D-glucoside$ (I) was isolated from Tephrosia spinosa (Leguminosae) and its anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated against carrageenin induced paw edema. The compound exhibited significant activity when compared to the standard drug indomethacin.

  • Five known diosgenin glycosides have been isolated from the MeOH extract of Smilax china rhizomes and characterized as prosapogenin A of dioscin, dioscin, gracillin, methyl protogracillin, methyl protodioscin and its corresponding 22-hydroxy analog. This is the first isolation of the former four compounds from this plant. ${\beta}-Sitosterol\;glucoside$ was also isolated and identified.

  • Four flavonoids were isolated from the ether and ethylacetate extracts of Impatiens textori Miquel(Balsaminaceae). The structures were elucidated as luteolin(I), apigenin(II), chrysoeriol(III), and chrysoeriol 7-glucoside(IV) by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. These compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time.

  • An acylated steryl glucoside preparation has been isolated from Phytolacca esculenta $_{VAN}H_{OUTTE}$. Two componentsof the vsterol moiety are ${\alpha}$-spinasterol and ${\delta}^7$-stigmastenol. Fatty acids are palmitic, stearic and myristic acids, and are located on C-6 of the glucose portion. 6'-Palmityl-${\alpha}$-spinasteryl-${\beta}$-glucoside is the main component.

  • ${\alpha}$-Ethyl-4,6-diiodo-2,3-dehydro-2,3,4,6-tetradeoxy-D-glucoside was synthesized from glucose through a modified Fischer et al. method. The yield of reduction process of an intermediate triacetylglucal, was markedly increased by utilizing lyophilization technique for removing the water in the reaction product.

  • Five isoflavones were isolated from the root of Caragana microphylla Lam. and the structures have been identified by means of chemical and physical methods. The isoflavones are 7-hydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone(formononetin), $form ononetin-7-O-{\beta}-glucoside(ononin)$, 7-hydroxy-3', 4'-methylenedioxyisoflavone(pseudobaptigenin), $7-O-{\beta}-glucuopyranosyloxy-3'- hydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone(calycosin-7-O-{\beta}-gluc-oside)$ and maackiain.
