Analysis of the Changes in the Perceived Important Capabilities of Construction Project Managers after the Global Financial Crisis

  • After the 2008 global financial crisis, the construction environment in South Korea continued change in the construction environment. Construction orders in 2011 have shown a downward trend compared with the previous year. Along with these changes in the construction market, the professional capabilities of construction project managers that are perceived as important also changed after the global financial crisis. Accordingly, this study was conducted to identify the major business capabilities of the current construction project managers and to determine which of these capabilities have undergone changes in terms of the importance accorded to them after the global financial crisis, and ultimately, to derive the construction project manager capability areas that need to be strengthened according to the changes in the construction environment. The capabilities of construction project managers were surveyed at two different time points: in 2007 and in 2010. The results show that the year 2010, after the global financial crisis, an increase in the perceived important capabilities of construction project managers compared with 2007. This results the impact of the changes in the construction environment on the importance of construction project managers. This study derived the ramifications of the early identification of systems and prospects according to the changes in the construction circumstances on more efficient onsite and human resources management, by considering the appropriate capabilities of the construction project managers.

Influence of Global versus Local Rating Agencies to Japanese Financial Firms

  • Global rating agencies, such as Moody's and S&P, have assigned credit ratings to corporate bonds issued by Japanese firms since 1980s. Local Japanese rating agencies, such as R&I and JCR, have more market share than the global raters. We examine the yield spreads of 1,050 yen-denominated corporate bonds issued by financial firms in Japan from 1998 to 2014 and find no evidence that bonds rated by at least one global agency are associated with a significant reduction in the cost of debt as compared to those rated by only local rating agencies. Unlike non-financial firms, the reputation effect of global rating agencies does not exist for Japanese financial firms. We also observe that firms with less information asymmetry are more likely to acquire ratings from Moody's or S&P. Additionally, the firm's financial profile does not affect its choice to seek out ratings from global raters. Our findings are contradictory to those by Han, Pagano, and Shin (2012), who employ bonds issued by non-financial firms in Japan. Our conjecture is that the asymmetric nature of financial firms makes investors less likely to depend on a credit risk assessment by rating agencies in determining the yields of new bonds.

  • This Research aims to analyze the effects of SCM management capabilities and IT capabilities on firm performance. The strategic performance was shown to be positively and significantly affected by flexibility and responsiveness which were proxies for SCM management capabilities. However, neither main effect of IT capability nor interaction effects of IT capability and SCM management capability on firm performance was found.

  • This study is aimed to identify environmental management expert's competencies, to analyze educational need, and to improve curriculum of Global Environmental Management major of 'Seoul National University'. Environmental experts are divided into three groups through 'the right people' of the Global Environmental Management major: environmental management businessman, environmental management policy maker, environmental management international cooperator. This study selected three high-performers of each categories through recommendation and made them build a competency model for what the high-performer's behavioral characteristics is. And the educational needs analysis was carried out by practitioners in environmental management field. This study ordered the priority of educational needed competencies by method of Borich's proposal. The high priority of competencies that should be educated preferentially are as follows: responding to environmental policy, analyzing domestic & foreign environmental policy and design international environmental cooperation project. To be secure the consistency with the field need and university curriculum, it is needed to find various interventions in environmental management education and to improve curricula focused on specific competencies.

Apparel production methods of domestic fashion brands for the activation of K-fashion (K-패션 활성화를 위한 국내 패션브랜드의 의류생산 방식 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study is to systematize various clothing production methods that domestic fashion brands are utilizing to produce fashion products, and to propose effective clothing production methods according to the characteristics. The research methods are contents analysis method of the literatures, articles, reports, and interviewing method of the practitioners who are in charge of the production of fashion. First, the clothing production methods of the domestic fashion brands are categorized as follows. It is divided into a fashion brand management method and a promotion company entrustment method based on who carries out the clothing production and management. The fashion brand management method is subdivided into the 'rental-production', 'CMT', and 'self-production' methods. All three methods are performed at domestic and global sourcing, but the CMT method is more utilized at the global sourcing. The promotion company entrustment method is subdivided into the 'full consignment production method', the 'CMT method involving promotion company', and 'direct buying method by promotion company'. All methods are performed at domestic and global sourcing. Second, the results of reviewing effective clothing production methods, according to characteristics are as follows. If fashion brands control the production and management, they use all three fashion brand management methods. The fashion brands use the promotion company entrustment method when they wants to offer special products, or the number of items is large, or the production management is difficult, or the manpower and equipment size is reduced. The domestic sourcing is utilized by fashion brands and promotion companies when production management is required for high quality apparel production, in case of trendy and complex designs, spot production, and in small quantity production. The global sourcing is utilized by fashion brands and promotion companies when it comes to lowering the production cost, fashion brands preferred the mass production of apparel with design that can be pre-planned.

  • The management strategies of each company has been changed fundamentally owing to the emergence of digital economics by using internet. Therefore the efficient management of global e-port causes the main issues not only effect the survival and growth of ports but also exert new opportunities and fatal threats on them. Under the circumstances of these change, the Kwangyang port have to introduce e-biz for the purpose of increasing the level of their competition. The focus of this article is to suggest some strategies on the implementation of Kwangyang Global e-port in Korea. To analyse the e-port realities, I first reviewed the trends of e-marketing and e-biz. I chose and analysed website of four ports like Hongkong, Singapore, Antwerp and Hamburg as successful global e-port models. This article is focused to suggest the theoretical background by analysing the strategic points of Kwangyang global e-port which are divided in 6C: Contents, Communities, Connection, Commerce, Communication and Customization. This paper analyses many problems of Gwangyang port and presents various develpment ways to activate Gwangyang port. In order to be a global e-port, first of all Gwangyang port must improve global web-site by 6C. And also Gwangyang port have to constitute logistics hub site, create infrastructure needed to run electronic business more easily over the internet, establish nationwide network of industries, build up marine and port logistics information system.

Construction Quality Management based on Digital Twin using Autonomous Scanning UGV

  • Recently, construction sites have faced significant challenges due to arbitrary changes and poor communication between general contractors and subcontractors. This study proposes a technological solution by integrating Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) into the existing workflow of apartment construction. By analyzing current processes, we identified a scenario where UGVs, equipped with LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) systems, can generate and provide real-time 3D models of construction sites. These models can be linked with extended reality (XR) technology or office PCs for intuitive comparisons between digital and actual site conditions as a digital twin of the construction site. The study suggests an improved construction process that enhances contractors' understanding and on-site efficiency and enables managers to monitor progress effectively. To address challenging terrain on construction sites, a caterpillar driven UGV was developed, equipped with stereo cameras, a LiDAR sensor for scanning and gathering environmental data, and an embedded PC for data processing. Utilizing SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology, the UGV autonomously navigates and scans the site at night, minimizing disruptions. Additionally, an embedded system analyzes images from stereo cameras to assess the quality of construction, mapping the findings onto 3D models. This innovation allows site managers to efficiently verify construction quality and identify issues without manual inspections, significantly improving site management efficiency.

  • Purpose: To reinforce the product competitiveness of Korean small and medium-sized business in the world market. Methods: By clarifying the definition of a masterpiece, developing global masterpiece quality index(MQI) equipped with checklists, surveying several companies and customers, and analyzing the results of the survey via the MQ zone diagram. Results: The results of the survey show the gap between Korean small and medium-sized business and global masterpiece companies in terms of MQI. From this analysis, in order for the surveyed Korean companies to be the world-class ones, the managerial aspects to be improved could be clearly pointed out through the measurement indices. Conclusion: This research would provide Korean small and medium-sized companies, which wish to get on the global masterpiece level, with an objective guideline.

Rising to the occasion, the Korea Restaurant Industry needs change itscurrent modus operandi focusing on management skill improvement and globalizatin of its network. In Particular, they need to have their competity edge against multinational Restaurant brands both in local and overseas markets. To further develop the local industry, we need to work on the following areas. 1. Top management is required to show firm commitment to development of local brand that can be a real player in the global market. 2. To make any impact in the global market, a specific marketing strategy needs to be developed fit for each market. 3. To save initial investment expenditure, a close cooperation among local industries is prerequisite. 4. To make the industry easier to go global, local government needs to provide them with financial and taxational benefits.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to shed light on the healthcare management systems in correlation with the advancing technological world, as well as the many diversified systems in different Asian countries. Research design, data, and methodology - This is a comprehensive study on the past researches that have been conducted on the field of healthcare management in different Asian countries. The different types of healthcare coverages were examined by country. Additionally, incorporating the healthcare system with technology is also investigated in this research. Results - The results have shown that there is a rapid incorporation of the technology in today's society with the healthcare systems. This has promising effects for the future, and for the different healthcare systems that exist within other Asian countries around the world. Conclusion - Quality healthcare for people are still elusive, and the healthcare management should improve on ways to better take care of their patients for the near future. By shedding light on the healthcare systems of Asian countries, an idea of the similarities and differences each hold can be assessed and utilized for future goals. By incorporating technology into healthcare systems, this will help in improving the overall care and quality-of-life that patients receive for the future.
