The purpose of this study was to select high-quality boar semen after the glass wool filtration of extended boar semen. After collecting boar semen, its concentration, morphology, viability, and motility were examined according the glass wool's height and time. After glass wool filtration, the sperm concentration decreased, but the proportion of normal sperms and the sperm viability increased. Nevertheless, the sperm motility showed no changes. The above results showed that the glass wool filtration of boar semen is a method of obtaining sperms with relatively low abnormal rates and high viabilities.

In this study, silica aerogel-glass wool composites were developed for improvement of thermal conductivity and overcoming the water adsorption of glass wool boards. Silica aerogel-glass wool composites were prepared by glass wool and silica aerogel with liquid binder. Mixtures with binder were composed of CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose) and silica aerogel for glass wool board. Silica aerogel-glass wool composite boards were had $0.065g/cm^3$ density by impregnation silica aerogel where from origin glass wool board at $0.048g/cm^3$ density. Thermal conductivity of silica aerogel-glass wool composites were 0.0315 W/mK (up to 7.4% thermal resistance) and fire penetration time came to 362 seconds (up to 2.7 times stronger than origin glass wool board). In addition, hydrophobic aerogel characteristics prevented the adsorption of water onto silica aerogel-glass wool composite boards that was good for lightweight.

In this study, occupational exposures to man-made mineral fibers (MMMFs) including glass wool, rock wool, and continuous glass filament fibers were determined and evaluated on the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) Threshold Limit Value (TLV). A total of 171 personal samples collected from 4 glass wool fiber, 2 rock wool fibers, 4 continuous filament glass fiber products manufacturing and a glass fiber and rock wool insulations using industries, and determined respirable fibers concentrations using the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Method 7400, "B counting rule. The fiber concentrations of samples from workers installing thermal insulations in a MMMF using industry showed the highest value: geometric mean (GM) = 0.73 f/cc and maximum = 2.9 f/cc, 70% of them were above the TLV, 1 f/cc. Workers' exposure level (GM= 0.032 f/cc) in the rock wool manufacturing industries was significantly higher than those of glass wool (GM=0.012 f/cc) and continuous filament glass fibers (GM=0.010 f/cc) manufacturing industries (p<0.01). No samples were more than the TLV in the MMMF manufacturing industries. There was a significant difference among companies in airborne fiber levels.
Glass wool filtration and swim-up method resulted in inreasing to 58.3% and 62.7% of the progressive motility in frozen-thawed boar sperm, compared to 34.2% in the untreated sperm. Glass wool filtration tended to be more successful than swim-up method for the survival sfter incubation of 38.5$^{\circ}C$ for 3h. Sperm recovered by both the swim-up method and the glass wool filtration method were tested in an in vitro fertilization to determine which of the two techniques would yield sperm with high fertilizing capacity. The results indicated that there was a significantly(p

Glass wool is an eco-friendly materials that is manufactured through a continuous process by processing waste glass. This materials is low cost compared with another materials and has excellent thermal conductivity. For this reason, glass wool is installed as insulation system for LNG carriers and as insulation of building wall as well as various industries. The mechanism of insulation of glass wool is the conduction of the wool itself and convection by space between fibers. Therefore, in order to develop the enhanced thermal conductivity of glass wool is necessary to reduce its own conduction or to insert additional material after manufacturing as well as prevent convection. In this respect, many researchers have been actively studying to decrease thermal conductivity of polyurethane foam using by inserted glass wool or change the chemical component of glass wool. However, many research are aiming reduction of glass wool itself. This study focus on post-processing and inserted different materials; silica-aerogel, kevlar fiber 1mm, 6mm and glass bubble. Experimental results show that the thermal conductivity almost decreases with the addiction of glass bubble and silica aerogel.
Damaged spermatozoa are supposed to be trapped in glass wool. In the respect of this, two glass wool filtration spermatozoa groups (0.5 cm, 1 cm depth) were compared with control group to assay sperm motility, HOS values, and vital rate by CFDA/PI staining method following glass wool filtration. The motility of canine sperm extended with PBS+PVP after glass wool filtration was lower in both filtrated groups than that of the control group (p<0.01) and the same significant difference was also shown in canine semen extended with Tris buffer (p<0.01). The motility of canine sperm diluted with PBS+PVP was higher than that diluted with Tris buffer in the same experimental groups (p<0.05). The motility of control group was not significantly decreased until 2 hours immediately after extending, however, the motility of both glass wool filtrated spermatozoa were significantly decreased as time passed until 2 hours after filtration (p<0.01). At each time for assay (immediately, 30 min, 2 hours after filtration), the motility of canine sperm of control group was higher than the filtrated groups (p<0.05), whereas the motility of 0.5 cm depth group was higher than 1 cm depth group at the immediate time after filtration (p<0.05), 30 minutes later (p<0.05) with no difference at 2 hours. No difference was shown among the experimental groups in HOS values of canine sperm after glass wool filtration. The vital rate assayed by CFDA/PI staining of both filter groups was higher than the control group (p<0.05).

Glass wool is a material that has been used as a heat insulator in various fields including construction industry. Since it is a nonflammable material, it does not generate toxic gases on fire, and thus public agencies recommend using glass wool as a heat insulator instead of other organic materials. However, repeated drying and wetting cycles can deteriorate thermal property of glass wool due to the shrinkage and reduction in pore size. For this reason, it needs to be replaced periodically, and waste materials are generated. This research aims to utilize waste glass wool as additives for increasing mechanical properties of concrete. According to the experimental results, it was found that glass wool has weak pozzolanic activity, and beneficial effect on both compressive and flexural strength. The optimum amount found in this experimental work was 0.5% volumetric addition to the concrete.

To improve the fire vulnerability of the organic insulation sandwich panel core, which is the main culprit of the large-scale fire disaster, an experiment was conducted to examine the thermal conductivity properties of the core material mixed with the organic insulation material EPS Bead and the inorganic insulation material glass wool. As the Additional ratio of glass wool increased, the thermal conductivity decreased, and it was determined that the replacement of glass wool of 3% or more had little effect on the decrease in thermal conductivity. In addition, it can be seen that the most ideal thermal conductivity is exhibited when 1% Replacement ratio of EPS and 3% glass wool are added. The core material of such organic and inorganic insulation materials is judged to be a core material that can compensate for the fire vulnerability of existing insulation materials. Therefore, in order to determine whether it is used as a core material for sandwich panels, additional studies such as fire resistance experiments and sound absorption experiments are needed in the future.

Penetration and health effect of fibers was related with their diameters and length. The purpose of this study is to characterize and compare the diameter and length of airborne man-made mineral fibers(MMMF) or synthetic vitreous fibers in the related industries. The average fiber length of the continuous filament glass, rock wool, refractory ceramic, and glass wool fibers production industries approximately 27, 28, 35, $50-105{\mu}m$. Airborne glass fibers were longest in all the type of MMMFs. The average diameters of airborne fibers generated from refractory ceramic, rock wool, glass wool, continuous filament glass fibers production industries were approximately 1.0, 1.6, 1.5-4 and $10{\mu}m$, respectively. The percentages of respirable fibers(<$3{\mu}m$) were 94% for RCFs, 73% for rock wool fibers, 61.0% for glass fibers, and 1.6% for filament glass fibers. The length of glass fibers were the longest in all types of fibers, and length of the others were similar. The refractory ceramic fibers were smallest in diameters and highest in fraction of respirable fibers.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the de-entrainment of boron for evaporators used in nuclear power plants. The forced circulation and semi-continuous type evaporator was used in the experiment. Cyclone and glass-wool packed column which is supposed to provide good decontamination factor as well as easy maintenance, were selected as de-entrainment devices to be used in the evaporation of radioactive liquid wastees. The de-entrainment device combined with cyclone and glass-wool column has shown overall DF more than 1, 000 for boron.
