Thermal Properties of Chloroprene Rubber with $^{60}Co\;{\gamma}$-ray Irradiation ($^{60}Co\;{\gamma}$-선 조사에 따른 클로프렌 고무의 열적 특성)

  • The thermal properties of chloroprene rubber (CR) with $^{60}Co\;{\gamma}$-ray irradiation has been investigated. The prepared CR was irradiated up to 1000kGy radiation dose by $^{60}Co\;{\gamma}$-ray and the radiation degradation of CR was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis and differential acanning calorimetry. Dynamic mechanical properties measurement and FT-IR observation are carried out as well. From these analyses results, the glass transition temperature($T_g$), decomposition onset temperature(DOT), oxidative induction time(OIT), the peak temperature of loss modulus and mechanical tan ${\delta}$ values were compared for the radiation degradation level of CR. The tendency between $T_g$ and peak temperature of loss modulus and mechanical tan ${\delta}$ agreed well with radiation doses. Decomposition temperature, OIT and DOT showed the same tendencies as increasing radiation doses. It was verified that these analyses are available to estimate the degradation level of CR.

  • Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA) is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate (VA). It is important to determine the VA content of EVA, since the properties of EVA depend highly on the VA content. EVA copolymers have been used in a wide range of applications appropriate for the different VA contents. IR, NMR, and TGA are generally used for determination of the VA content of EVA copolymers. Of these, TGA is the most reliable method and can be applied to cured EVAs. Analytical methods for determination of the VA content and properties of EVA copolymers via TGA were herein reviewed. Thermal behaviors of EVA copolymers (glass transition temperature ($T_g$), melting point ($T_m$), and crystallization temperature ($T_c$)) determined by DSC were also reviewed. Analysis of the related literature revealed that the $T_g$, $T_m$, and $T_c$ decrease by about 0.46, 1.36, and $2.08^{\circ}C$, respectively, for every 1 wt% in VA content. A method for determining the degree of crosslinking of cured EVA copolymers was also reviewed, and the degree of crosslinking tends to increase with the decrease in the VA content.

Optical Properties according to BaO Addition for BaO-GeO2-La2O3-ZnO System (BaO-GeO2-La2O3-ZnO 계에 있어서 BaO 첨가량 변화에 따른 광학 특성)

  • In this study, Barium Germanium glasses were prepared with a composition of xBaO-(72-x)GeO2-8La2O3-20ZnO where x = 16.0, 18.0, 20.0, 22.0 and 24.0 mol% respectively. Their physical and optical properties, such as refractiveness index, glass transition temperature (Tg), softening temperature (Ts), transmittance and Knoop hardness were studied. The results showed that refractive index, Tg, Ts and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) increased with increasing BaO concentration. The refractive index of all the prepared samples was observed between 1.7811 to 1.7881. The Abbe number was calculated by formula using nd (589.3 nm), nf (656.3 nm) and nc (486.1 nm) and observed to be between 38 to 40. The Abbe number of the prepared sample was similar to that of BaO and GeO2. The transmittance of the prepared glasses was observed to be between 80 ~ 82 % throughout the range from 200 nm to 800 nm. Knoop hardness divided into seven steps were measured 5 class (≥ 450 ~ < 550) of all prepared samples.

Relations between Composition, Temperature and Electrical Conductivity of (60-xSiO2-40Na2O-xCaO(x=0∼15wt%) Glass System ((60-x)SiO2-40Na2O-xCaO(x=0∼15wt%)조성유리계의 조성, 온도 및 전기전도도간의 상관특성)

  • We report the electrical conductivity of the mixed alkali silicate glasses in the system (60-x)$SiO_2-40Na_2O-xCaO(x=0\sim15wt%)$ in the temperature range from $150^{\circ}C$ to $620^{\circ}C$. In the range from $150^{\circ}C$ to glass transition temperature$(T_g)$, the electrical conductivities of glass samples had a tendency to be proportion with temperature. The glasses of containing over 7.5wt% CaO showed lower conductivities than the glasses of containing 0 and 5wt% CaO because two kinds of alkali ions$(Na^+,\;Ca^{2+})$ were obstructed each other. On the other hand, in the range from $T_g$ to $620^{\circ}C$, the electrical conductivity of glasses($7.5{\leq}x{\leq}12.5$) was unstable and decreased in some region. From XRD results, the $Na_4Ca(SiO_3)_3$ phase were observed in these glasses. This means the alkali ions didn't behave as carrier, it seems that this caused the conductivities decrease. In case of glass of containing 15wt% CaO, any crystal phase were not observed. This means the alkali ions behaved as carrier, it consequently seems the conductivity increased.

Effects of Silica Filler and Diluent on Material Properties of Non-Conductive Pastes and Thermal Cycling Reliability of Flip Chip Assembly

  • In this paper, thermo-mechanical and rheological properties of NCPs (Non-Conductive Pastes) depending on silica filler contents and diluent contents were investigated. And then, thermal cycling (T/C) reliability of flip chip assembly using selected NCPs was verified. As the silica filler content increased, thermo-mechanical properties of NCPs were changed. The higher the silica filler content was added, glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and storage modulus at room temperature became higher. While, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) decreased. On the other hand, rheological properties of NCPs were significantly affected by diluent content. As the diluent content increased, viscosity of NCP decreased and thixotropic index increased. However, the addition of diluent deteriorated thermo-mechanical properties such as modulus, CTE, and $T_g$. Based on these results, three candidates of NCPs with various silica filler and diluent contents were selected as adhesives for reliability test of flip chip assemblies. T/C reliability test was performed by measuring changes of NCP bump connection resistance. Results showed that flip chip assembly using NCP with lower CTE and higher modulus exhibited better T/C reliability behavior because of reduced shear strain in NCP adhesive layer.

  • Polyurethane (PU) synthesized from 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate having high functionality (f=2.9) and polyester polyol have been investigated by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), dynamic mechanical thermal analyzer (DMTA), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscope (FT-IR). From the DSC measurement of polyurethane, a single transition temperature ($T_g$) was observed. This result indicates that polyurethanes synthesized in this work have homogeneous network structure due to high functionality of diisocyanate. It was also found that the $T_g$ of polyurethane was increased as hard segment content was increased. The results from DMTA measurement are consistent with DSC results. In order to investigate the effect of thermal annealing on the $T_g$ of polyurethane, the samples were annealed at various annealing conditions. $T_gs$ of polyurethanes were found to increased with annealing temperature. From swelling experiment and FT-IR studies, it was found that the $T_g$ was increased as crosslinking density of polyurethane was increased.

  • Recently, study on the weak interaction energy between the soft polymer surface and liquid crystals has been a primary topic for new LC device applications. In this paper, to understand the switching property of nematic liquid crystals (LCs) at the interface with a weak anchoring boundary, we investigate experimentally the rotation property of surface nematic director by electric field on non-treated Poly-Methylmethacrylate (PMMA, $T_g=110^{\circ}C$, Sigma Aldrich) film observed under various temperatures including the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of the polymer layer.

Surface Relief Holograms on azo-polymer film

  • Surface relief holograms are fabricated by means of irradiation of laser interference patterns. The diffraction efficiency and the surface relief depth depend on the writing energy and the polarization of the writing laser beam. This structure is very stable at temperatures under glass transition temperature $T_g$ and can be erased by heating above $T_g$. We proposed a new technique to control the surface relief structure. The electric charge was deposited on the surface relief grating in a corona-depositing poling setup in an oven. The first-order diffraction efficiency measured before and after corona discharge increased from about 0.24 % to about 28 %. This diffraction efficiency increase is mainly caused by the increase of the relief depth caused by the electric charge. The relief depth is increased from 20 nm to 350 nm by corona charging. .

  • UV-curable pressure sensitive adhesives were prepared by blending acrylic copolymer, copolymerized with butyl acrylate (BA), acrylic acid (AA) and vinyl acetate (VAc) by solution polymerization, triethyl amine (TEA) and trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA). The PSAs were evaluated by peel strength with varying contents of TMPTA and UV dose, and also glass transition temperature($T_g$) of PSAs were measured. When exposed on UV irradiation, the PSAs showed the decreased peel strength and increased $T_g$. And following UV irradiation, the PSAs did not leave any residue on wafer after peel off PSA.

A Study on the Structure Properties of Amorphous $As_{40}Se_{50-x}S_{x}Ge_{10}$ Thin Film (비정질 $As_{40}Se_{50-x}S_{x}Ge_{10}$ 박막의 구조특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we analyze the structure characteristics of $As_{40}Se_{50-x}S_{x}Ge_{10}$ system bulk and thin films. As the results of XRD patterns, it identified amorphous state. In order to find the glass transition temperature($T_g$), crystallization($T_c$) and melting point ($T_m$)of bulk sample, it ascertained that TS1gT is 238$^{\circ}C$ in $As_{40}Se_{15}S_{35}Ge_{10}$, and 231$^{\circ}C$ in $As_{40}Se_{25}S_{25}Ge_{10}$ & $As_{40}Se_{50}Ge_{10}$ following the thernal analysis by DSC, DTA, & TGA method. Also it was confirmed the phase seperation of continuous phase and dispertion phase by the optical texture of polarizing microscope and $T_g$ near 20$0^{\circ}C$ in thin film. Therefore, it was found that it occurs the phase seperation of Ge-rich dontinuous phase and Se-rich dispersion phase following the EDS analysis of thin film and the surface SEM photograph.
