Characteristics of supercooled liquid and glass, which are the states involved in glass transition, are reviewed. These states are non-equilibrium states, therefore, the glass transition is different from the usual phase transitions. Theories of glass transition and related experimental methods are briefly summarized.
The phase transition of vortex matter from solid to liquid was studied in iron-based superconductors. Based on the traditional vortex glass theory, we have examined the magnetoresistivity data of iron-based superconductors using our extended thermal activation model: $\rho(B,T)=\rho((T-T_g(B))/(T_c(0)-T_g(B)))^{v(z-1)}$. We predict that the magnetic field-dependent area S + $S_0$ which integrates $\rho$ with T is proportional to $B^{\beta}$, where ${\beta}$ is the vortex glass transition exponent. From our calculation, the vortex glass transition exponent is 0.33, close to the exponent of area $S_0$ + S is 0.31 in $SmO_{0.9}F_{0.1}FeAs$; the exponent of area S is 0.63, which is close to the irreversibility line exponent 2/3. Both of the results show the validity of our model. In addition, our model is shown to be effective in describing irreversibility behavior in layered superconductors.

In this present study, mechanical properties of the Zr-Ti-Cu-Ni-Be bulk metallic glass are characterized by compression test over a wide range of temperatures and strain rates. Three different types of deformation behavior have been identified as a result, viz., Newtonian viscous flow, non-Newtonian flow and brittle fracture without plastic deformation. A transition state theory is applicable fur the flow stress - strain rate curve that contains the transition from Newtonian to non-Newtonian flow. Based on the relationship between viscosity and strain rate within undercooled liquid state, we can easily obtain the experimental deformation map and suggest the boundaries among different deformation behavior of this alloy.
State diagram of highly concentrated branched oligosaccharides (HBOS) was constructed to better understand phase behavior of mixtures with different size of oligosaccharides. It showed dramatic plasticizing effect on glass transition, which was successfully described based on Couchman-Karasz equation model. $T_g$' estimated from state diagram corresponded well with previous empirical data measured by maximum ice formation through isothermal holding (annealing) process. Estimated $T_g$' and $C_g$' values were $-36.3^{\circ}C$ and 79.99%, respectively. $T_g$' value of HBOS was approximately $10^{\circ}C$ higher than that of sucrose, while $C_g$' value was similar to those of general carbohydrate materials, which could be useful for applications in frozen system.
This study was carried out to investigate the influence of viscoelastic properties(or chemical composition) of a series of ethylen-viny1 acetate copolymers on impact noise and vibration damping of wood/polymer/wood sandwich composites. The impact noise and vibration damping of composites were very sensitive to the state of molecular motion of polymer. The noise and vibration damping of composites were maximum when the polymer was under the glass transition(vinylacetate 55~75%) at the test-temperature, and minimum rubbery state(vinyl-acetate 47~20%) or glassy state(vinylacetate 100~87%). The polymer under glass transition reduced the impact noise by 6~12 dB.
This study has investigated the effect of thermal stability and mechanical property of $Fe_{80-X}P_{10}C_6B_4M_X$(X=2, 4, 6, M=transition metal) amorphous alloys fabricated by the melt-spun process. The glass transition temperature($T_g$), crystallization temperature($T_x$) and hardness increase with decreasing electron concentration (e/a) from about 7.38 to 7.18. The decrease of e/a implies the increase in the attractive bonding state between the M elements and other constituent element. The decrease in a/e leads to the enhancement of the attractive bonding state among the constituent elements which is favorable for the increase in $T_g$, $T_x$ and hardness.
Mesogenic and azo monomers were synthesized and copolymerized to obtain two copolymers composed of methacrylate and itaconate backbone. Glass transition temperatures of the copolymers were found to be slightly higher than ambient temperature. Both the copolymers showed liquid crystalline properties. Trans-cis isomerization in film state was observed under UV-irradiation with a light of 365 nm. Regarding the photochemical phase transition behavior, the transition rate of nematic-to-isotropic state was slightly faster in the methacrylate copolymer during irradiation at 365 nm and the rate of the reverse transition was much faster in itaconate copolymer under thermal effect.

The expansion of lithium-ion battery usage beyond portable electronic devices to electric vehicles and energy storage systems is driven by their high energy density and favorable cycle characteristics. Enhancing the stability and performance of these batteries involves exploring solid electrolytes as alternatives to liquid ones. While sulfide-based solid electrolytes have received significant attention for commercialization, research on amorphous-phase glass solid electrolytes in oxide-based systems remains limited. Here, we investigate the glass transition temperatures and sintering behaviors by changing the molecular ratio of Li2O/B2O3 in borate glass comprising Li2O-B2O3-Al2O3 system. The glass transition temperature is decreasing as increasing the amount of Li2O. When we sintered at 450℃, just above the glass transition temperature, the samples did not consolidate well, while the proper sintered samples could be obtained under the higher temperature. We successfully obtained the borate glass ceramics phases by melt-quenching method, and the sintering characteristics are investigated. Future studies could explore optimizing ion conductivity through refining processing conditions, adjusting the glass former-to-modifier ratio, and incorporating additional Li salt to enhance the ionic conductivity.

Our experimental research focuses on manipulating pinning deflects to alter the phase diagram of vortex matter, creating new vortex phases. Vortex matter offers a unique opportunity for creating and studying these novel phase transitions through precise control of thermal, pinning and elastic energies. The vortex melting transition in untwinned YB $a_2$C $u_3$$O_{7-}$$\delta$/ crystals is investigated in the presence of disorder induced by particle irradiation. We focus on the low disorder regime, where a glassy state and a lattice state can be realized in the same phase diagram. We follow the evolution of the first order vortex melting transition line into a continuous transition line as disorder is increased by irradiation. The transformation is marked by an upward shift in the lower critical point on the melting line. With columnar deflects induced by heavy ion irradiation, we find a second order Bose glass transition line separating the vortex liquid from a Bose glass below the lower critical point. Furthermore, we find an upper threshold of columnar defect concentration beyond which the lower critical point and the first order melting line disappear together. With point deflect clusters induced by proton irradiation, we find evidence for a continuous thermodynamic transition below the lower critical point..
Viscoelastic characteristics of cured phenolic resin/carbon fiber composite materials were investigated through glass transition and degradation reaction processes in the high temperature region up to $400^{\circ}C$. A typical glass transition of the cross-linked thermoset polymer was followed by irreversible degradation reactions, which were exhibited by the increasing storage modulus and loss modulus peak. A degradation master curve was constructed by using the vertical and horizontal shift factors, both of which complied well with the Arrhenius equation in light of the kinetic expression of degradation rate constants. Using an analogy to the Havriliak-Negami equation in dielectric relaxation phenomena, a viscoelastic modeling methodology was developed to characterize the frequency- and temperature-dependent complex moduli of the degrading thermoset polymer composite systems. The temperature-dependent relaxation time of the degrading composites was determined in a continuous fashion and showed a minimum relaxation time between the glass transition and degradation reaction regions. The capability of the developed modeling methodology was demonstrated by describing the complex behavior of the viscoelastic complex moduli of reacting phenolic resin composite systems.
