  • In this research, a cockpit display system using 3 dimensional geographic information was developed. A coordinate transformation method from WGS84 to TM was first studied. Octree data structure was used for efficient 2D and 3D graphic display. Also, a 3D graphic engine was developed for fast display with large amount of geographic data which can be practically used in aircraft onboard computer having low performance. This 3D engine contains additional function such as geographic and object information loading, many kinds of camera mode, aircraft position and rotation control function, character strip display. In the future research, actual GPS signal should be used and additional information that can help pilot's decision should be display.

  • Two species of Moroco oxycephalus and M. lagowskii were studied to examine patterns of genic variation and morphological difference within and between populations of two species, and to clarify their taxonomic status and geographic distribution. The number of scales above lateral line(SAL) was the key character to classify these species. On the average, M.lagowskii had 22 or more SAL whereas M.oxycephalus had 20 or less. Previously known character of the position of dorsal fin was found to be not appropriate to distinguish them. Five loci, Gp, st-1, Est-2, Est-3 and Got-1 , showed fixed difference electrophoretically between two species and these could be used as genetic markers to identify them. The degree of genic variation of M. oxycephalus was four fold higher(H=0.032) than that of M. lagowskii(H=0.008) but both species were far less than the average genic variation of freshwater fish in general. Rogers' genetic similarity coefficients between two species were S=0.692 and their presumed divergent time was estimated to be sbout 1.8million years ageo. Detailed survey of the geographic distribution of thses revealed that M.lagowskii was distributed in northeastern part of South Korea(Ganseong , Gangreung, Wangsan, and Oggye) and M. oxycephalus was occupied rest of the peninsula. The distrance between Oggye, the southern limit of M. lagowskii distribution , and Samwha (near Samcheog), the northern limit of M.oxycephalus, was aobut 15 Km apart and no symparty was found in between.

  • Recently, researches that are using deep learning technology in various fields are being conducted. The fields include geographic map processing. In this paper, I propose a method to infer where the map area included in the image is. The proposed method generates and learns images including a map, detects map areas from input images, extracts character strings belonging to those map areas, and converts the extracted character strings into coordinates through geocoding to infer the coordinates of the input image. Faster R-CNN was used for learning and map detection. In the experiment, the difference between the center coordinate of the map on the test image and the center coordinate of the detected map is calculated. The median value of the results of the experiment is 0.00158 for longitude and 0.00090 for latitude. In terms of distance, the difference is 141m in the east-west direction and 100m in the north-south direction.

  • All kinds of environmental problems are related to each local and geographical environment. For this reason, it is necessary for schools in each region to provide environmental education which suits the geographical character of their particular region. In order to provide solutions to the environmental problems of each school's geographic region, the goal of this research is as follows: 1. We can make students realize the relationship between the human race and the environment by teaching according to the environmental conditions in each local area. 2. By teaching students about the problems in their own local environment, we can increase their concern about the state of their local surroundings. 3. When teaching about the environment, it is useful to use educational material which suits the character of each local region. 4. Students' interest in environmental preservation can be aroused through extracurricular environmental activities. The ares concerned are Chonnam and Kwangju City, which are divided into urban, industrial, rural, coastal, and mountainous areas. The conclusion about considering environmental education in environmental school social studies is as follows: 1. Kwangju and Chonnam should be divided into five sections, each with similar geographical environments. This will be an improvement over the old uniform approach to environmental studies in which all regions were treated as being the same each region will now receive special attention. 2. It is necessary to maximize the efficient use of the Environmental Education Building. When Media, environmental data and special materials for environmental education are used effectively, teachers can lead class effectively and students will be more interested in the class. 3. We can detect the cause of pollution, increase interest in the environment and easily solve environmental problems by collecting and displaying environmental educational materials. 4. An environmental education corner could boost students' interest in environmental problems and could act as a kind of bridge between theoretical and practical education. 5. Media and environmental data must be specialized according to the geographic character of each region. In this way, we can expect to improve the quality of environmental education over the simplistic environmental education of previous years. 6. Students will become interested in the problems of the region in which they live through social studies, and primarily through the environmental curriculum. 7. We can prevent learning deficiencies by making a consistent teaching plan. The teaching and learning methods will be improved and the teachers will be proud of what they teach. 8. The purpose of the Education Procedure Content Analysis is to make teaching and learning concise and easy by systematizing environmental and related subjects. This can be done by adding an environmental unit to the geographic section of social studies. 9. Citizens' interest in their own residential environment can be increased through action by sustaining environmental preservation movements to local region people.

  • Mapping applications using satellite imagery have been possible to quantitative analysis since SPOT satellite with stereo image was launched. Especially, high resolution satellite imagery was efficiently used in the field of digital mapping for the areas which are difficult to produce large-scale maps by aerial photogrammetry or carry out ground control point surveying due to unaccessibility. This study extracted the geospatial information out of consideration for topographic characteristic from ortho imagery of the National Geospatial-intelligence Agency(NGA) in the United States of America and analyzed the accuracy of plane coordinate for ortho imagery. For this purpose, the accuracy according to topographic character by comparison between both extraction data from ortho imagery and the digital topographic maps of 1:5000 scale which were produced by Korea National Geographic Information Institute(NGI) was evaluated. It is expected that the results of this study will be fully used as basic information for ground control point acquisition or digital mapping in unaccessible area.

  • Ubiquitous has been a new issue in information technology field. Some people in GIS(Geographic Information Systems) and urban and regional planning have maintained that not only building three dimensional graphic environment in cyberspace is the key for ubiquitous, but also planners should plan and control the new space. They may believe that ubiquitous would be a mixture or/and combination of real-space and cyberspace. For strengthening their arguments, they should show the character of the space can be related to the three dimensional space and planning the space is possible. This study tried to critically analyze their assertion. After reviewing various articles and studies in multidisciplinary view, this challenging analysis shows those arguments need more sophisticated studies and can limit the character of cyberspace which has made the space prosperous.

  • The geographic information system is needed in the image recognition field. This study recommends an efficient method to construct the GIS from the feature extraction of roads through scanning of a normal or hand-made maps. Many algorithms have been presented for such image information recognition. However, such algorithm processes have limitations due to their complexity. To efficiently extract road information from scanning map images. a $3{\times}3$ directional form is applied - structuring element, erosion and dilation, and opening and closing. This method allows for efficient evaluation of the featured road extracts from the map image and from the character sets.

  • The house of the China Korean ethnic group in the countryside, kitchen is one of the most important rooms, which works for cooking, warming, and storage. Besides, it has some complementary functions such as washing and showering. The spatial structure of the kitchen is divided into three types, 'jeongji', 'walkway' and 'independent' one. Those houses which are near Korea peninsula mainly belong to the 'jeongji' type; whereas those houses which are in the inland of Jilin, Heilongjiang and Liaoning Provinces mainly are 'walkway' and 'independent' types. The main constituents of the kitchen include pots and pans, water supply and sewerage, fuel and storage etc. The differences among these constituents lead to the geographic differences in the aspect of cooking method and dietary culture, and finally the different kitchen spatial characters are manifested.
