  • The genus Caconemobius comprises marine apterous crickets. In recent years, two species have been confirmed in Korea: Caconemobius sazanami (Furukawa, 1970) and Caconemobius takarai ($\hat{O}$shiro, 1990). A key to species, descriptions, distribution data, photographs, and figures are presented to compare the two crickets.

  • Two species in the genus Stelletta, Stelletta crusta n. sp and Stelletta maxima Thiele, 1898 have been Collected from Geomundo Island. Stelletta crusta n. sp is similar to Stelletta tetrafurcata Hoshino, 1981 in the clade of the dichotriaenes which is trifurcate or multifurcate but both species differ in spicule size and composition. Stelletta maxima is first recorded in the Korean fauna.

  • We study a family of 2-bridge knots with 2-tangles in the 3-sphere admitting a genus two 1-bridge splitting. We also observe a geometric relation between (g - 1, 1)-splitting and (g,0)- splitting for g = 2,3. Moreover we construct a family of closed orientable 3-manifolds which are n-fold cyclic coverings of the 3-sphere branched over those 2-bridge knots.

  • Two new species of the genus Nesodillo Verhoeff, 1926, N. kimi and N. philippinensis, are described from Philippines. For the shape of frontal shield, Nesodillo kimi resembles N. monticola (Vandel, 1973) from New Guinea, but differs from it in the shape of male pleopod 1 exopod. N. philippinensis is distinguished from N. kimi by the shape of frontal shield not depressed in the middle of upper border, and of telson with broadly rounded distal margin.

  • Two new marine sponges in genus Suberites, S. hataedoensis n. sp and S. waedoensis n. sp have been collected from Hataedo Island and Waedo Island, Korea during 2005-2006. S. hataedoensis n. sp. is similar to S. durissimus in the spicule composition and texture. However, they differ in growth form, skeleton and surface. S. waedoensis n. sp. is similar to S. japonicus in spicule composition and skeleton. However, they differ in growth form, surface and texture.

  • Four steroids including two novel compounds have been isolated from a sponge of the genus Tethya. All of the compounds possess a 5α,8α-epidioxy functionality as a common structural feature. Two new steroids, 1 and 2, possess a cyclopropyl ring at C-24(26) of the side chain. The structures of these compounds have been determined by combined spectroscopic methods.

  • A taxonomic study of the Palearctic species of the genus Brachyserphus is presented. Two species are newly described as B. acuticaudatus sp. n. and B. semipunctatus sp. n. from South Korea and the Russian Far East. B. striatopropodeatus (Kolyada 1997 syn. n.) is synonymized under B. lucens (Provancher 1883) and a key to the Palearctic species is provided.

  • Objectives : Herbal medicines were used a lot in the Northeast Asia, traditionally. However, the pharmacopoeia standards in South Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, and North Korea including many other Asia are different and cause confusion. If the origins are not belonging to same genus, it should be careful to distinguish. In this study, herbal medicines in the pharmacopoeia were analyzed for different genus of origins in order to identify the disruptive items for each country. Methods : The scientific names of herbal medicines (plant based) was analyzed origins from Pharmacopoeias of Republic of Korea, People's Republic of China, Japan, Taiwan, and Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The origins specified differently were examined. Especially, the items which have different genus were analyzed in detail and confirmed for correct scientific name. Results : The analyzed herbal medicines in Pharmacopoeia were all 753 items. 320 items were in only one country's Pharmacopoeia. 237 items were in more than two countries' Pharmacopoeia, but their origins were same on each other. The items which have different genus were 35 items. Conclusions : In general, species belonging to the same genus have similar ecological, morphological, and pharmacological activity. However, species with different genus may have different medicinal ingredients and pharmacological activity. Thus, the items which have same name but different genus are required to analyze for comparison of pharmacological activity. Also, other species belonging to the different genus should be used for different items.

  • The order Prorocentales currently includes two genera Prorocentrum Ehrenberg and Mesoporos Lillick. The Prorocentrum genus is a predominant group throughout the year found in Korean waters. To date, the Prorocentrum genus includes 31 species and the Mesoporos genus has only one species in Korean waters. In this study, we identified one Mesoporos species and three Prorocentrum species around a coast of Jeju Island, and described them as newly recorded species in Korean waters.
