In this paper, it is shown that the conventional methods for dealing with the singularity problem of a manipulator can be generalized as a local minimization problem with differently weighted objective functions. A new damping method proposed in this article automatically determines the damping amounts for singular values, which are inversely proportional to the magnitude of the singular values. Furthermore, this can be done without explicitly computing the singular values. The proposed method can be applied to all the manipulators with revolute joints.
This article is devoted to “forgotten” and rarely used technique of matrix analysis, introduced in 60-70th and enhanced by authors. We will study the matrix trace operator and it’s differentiability. This idea generalizes the notion of scalar derivative for matrix computations. The list of the most common derivatives is given at the end of the article. Additionally we point out a close connection of this technique with a least square problem in it’s classical and generalized case.

Electrical impedance tomography is a nondestructive imaging technique to reconstruct unknown conductivity distribution based on applied current data and measured voltage data through an array of electrodes attached on the periphery of a domain. In this paper, an inverse method based on truncated singular value decomposition is proposed to solve the inverse problem with the generalized Tikhonov regularization and to reconstruct the conductivity distribution. In order to reduce the inverse computational time, truncated singular value decomposition is applied to the inverse term after the generalized regularization matrix is taken out from the inverse matrix term. Numerical experiments and phantom experiments have been performed to verify the performance of the proposed method.

Some characters and construction theorems of Pseudo Jacket Matrix which is generalized from Jacket Matrix introduced by Jacket Matrices: Construction and Its Application for Fast Cooperative Wireless signal Processing[27] was announced. In this paper, we proposed some examples of Pseudo inverse Jacket matrix, such as $2{\times}4$, $3{\times}6$ non-square matrix for the MIMO channel. Furthermore we derived MIMO singular value decomposition (SVD) pseudo inverse channel and developed application to utilize SVD based on channel estimation of partitioned antenna arrays. This can be also used in MIMO channel and eigen value decomposition (EVD).

We propose an adaptive resource allocation algorithm with generalized triangular decomposition scheme in downlink multi-user multiple-input-multiple-output channel to maximize the system throughput when we adopt the modulation scheme such as BPSK, QPSK, 16QAM, and 64QAM. The proposed scheme also considers an bit-error-rate performance as well as system throughput while performing resource allocation. We present simulation results to show that the proposed scheme achieves the system throughput up to 2bit difference by capacity and has better BER performance than SVD based resource allocation scheme in all SNR regions.
Recent developments in the field of separation of mixed signals into music/voice components have attracted the attention of many researchers. Recently, iterative kernel back-fitting, also known as kernel additive modeling, was proposed to achieve good results for music/voice separation. To obtain minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimates of short-time Fourier transforms of sources, generalized spatial Wiener filtering (GW) is typically used. In this paper, we propose an advanced music/voice separation method that utilizes a generalized weighted ${\beta}$-order MMSE estimation (WbE) based on iterative kernel back-fitting (KBF). In the proposed method, WbE is used for the step of mixed music signal separation, while KBF permits kernel spectrogram model fitting at each iteration. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves better separation performance than GW and existing Bayesian estimators.
There have been emerging many use-cases applying recommendation systems especially in online platform. Although the performance of recommendation systems is affected by a variety of factors, selecting appropriate features is difficult since most of recommendation systems have sparse data. Conventional matrix factorization (MF) method is a basic way to handle with problems in the recommendation systems. However, the MF based scheme cannot reflect non-linearity characteristics well. As deep learning technology has been attracted widely, a deep neural network (DNN) framework based collaborative filtering (CF) was introduced to complement the non-linearity issue. However, there is still a problem related to feature embedding for use as input to the DNN. In this paper, we propose an effective method using singular value decomposition (SVD) based feature embedding for improving the DNN performance of recommendation algorithms. We evaluate the performance of recommendation systems using MovieLens dataset and show the proposed scheme outperforms the existing methods. Moreover, we analyze the performance according to the number of latent features in the proposed algorithm. We expect that the proposed scheme can be applied to the generalized recommendation systems.

The capability for reconstructing impact forces of an aircraft wing using impact response functions and regularization methods were examined. The impact response function which expresses the relation between the structure response and the impact force was derived using the information on mass and stiffness data of a finite element model for the wing. Iterative Tikhonov regularization method and generalized singular value decomposition method were used to inverse the impact response function that was generally ill-posed. For the numerical verification, a fighter aircraft wing was used. Strain and deflection histories obtained from finite element analysis were compared with the results calculated using impact response functions. And the impact forces were reconstructed with the strain histories obtained from finite element analysis. The numerical verification results showed that this method can be used to monitor impact forces on aircraft structures.

Control Theory for continuous-time system has been well developed. Due to the development of computer technology, digital control scheme are employed in many areas. When delays are in control systems, it is hard to control the system efficiently. Delays by controller-to-actuator and sensor-to-controller deteriorate control performance and could possibly destabilize the overall system. In this paper, a new approximated discretization method and digital design for control systems with multiple state, input and output delays and a generalized bilinear transformation method with a tunable parameter are also provided, which can re-transform the integer time-delayed discrete-time model to its continuous-time model. Illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed method.
Robust extraction of 3D facial features and global motion information from 2D image sequence for the MPEG-4 SNHC face model encoding is described. The facial regions are detected from image sequence using multi-modal fusion technique that combines range, color and motion information. 23 facial features among the MPEG-4 FDP (Face Definition Parameters) are extracted automatically inside the facial region using color transform (GSCD, BWCD) and morphological processing. The extracted facial features are used to recover the 3D shape and global motion of the object using paraperspective camera model and SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) factorization method. A 3D synthetic object is designed and tested to show the performance of proposed algorithm. The recovered 3D motion information is transformed into global motion parameters of FAP (Face Animation Parameters) of the MPEG-4 to synchronize a generic face model with a real face.
