  • The purpose of this article is to present the acoustic parameters (VOT, jitter, shimmer, vF0, vAm, NHR, SPI, VTI, DVB, DSH) for consonants (/pipi/, /$p^{h}ip^{h}i$/, /p'ip'i/) and sustained vowels (/a/, /e/, /i/) produced by normal subjects and dysphonia patients at two vocal effort(normal, high) by Lombard effect using 60dB white noise. Lombard effect indicates the vocal effort increase in noisy situation. At normal vocal effort, in general the acoustic parameter values of patients are greater than normal. And in noisy situation, significant decrease of acoustic values is seen in normal compared with in dysphonia patients. The clinical implication of this finding, the vocal quality in dysphonia is not compensated by vocal effort as well as normal subjects because of the inefficiency caused by abnormal vocal fold appearance and function. And with this result, we can counsel that the voice quality can not be improved as well as the patient expect.

  • The rate of wear of cam followers in a valve train system is mainly a function of contact stress between the cam and the follower, sliding velocity and hydrodynamic film thickness between the two mating surfaces. The wear or surface fatigue can be reduced by maximizing the elastohydrodynamic film thickness. In this paper, an attempt has been made to estimate the optimal specific film thickness of cam-follower system quantitatively. A general TES polynomial function with real values of exponents is developed and genetic algorithm (GA) is used as optimization techniques for maximizing the minimum specific film thickness. The optimization programs enumerate values of the exponents for synthesis of cam displacement curves. The results show that the minimum film thickness can be increased considerably, e.g. approximately 7% in this paper.

  • Simulation of daylighting by computer program is a method to avoid unnecessary efforts in manufacture of its testing models, to reduce its measuring tolerances and be able to provide variations of various weather conditions as well. Many simulation programs on daylighting have been released freely or commercialized for selling, however, a demonstration of their availability and validity as a tool for evaluating daylighting performance is required since each one has its own characteristics. The objectives of this study lie in suggesting an application method of evaluation tools and demonstration of limits and characteristics so as to more easily determine the daylightingperformance in the very initial stages of planning for an arbitrary office space in which windows with daylight access are built. We produced scale model of the general light inducing type side lighting with lightshelfand ceiling, and the luminance (at 78 measuring points) and illuminance (at 84 measuring points) were measured in a clear sky. And a comparison of the measured values and the calculated values from a computer simulation using the Lightscape program was performed.

  • Using Power Spectrum Analysis, conditions of parameter convergence for a Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) system are described. The general Persistent Excitation (PE) condition given in time domain can be transformed to the positiveness of auto-correlation matrix which is represented in frequency domain by the spectra of reference input signal. For an MRAC system designed with relative degree one, the existence and the uniqueness of parameter nominal values due to the variation of input spectra can be analyzed by the PE condition in frequency domain. If the input signal has 2n spectra or more, it can be shown that the nominal values exist independent of adaptive gain, input amplitudes, and magnitudes or numbers of their spectra.

  • Dynamic measurements are used rather sparingly to determine the elastic moduli of rock cores and modulus values are not much utilized in design practices. The reason seems to result from the general perception that values obtained by dynamic measurement are much higher (about 10 time) than those determined statically. This paper presents results from dynamic and static tests on rock cores. One of the findings is that both moduli determined by statically and dynamically on a solid rock core agrees well at the same-strain. At different strain levels, the ratio between dynamic and static modult widely varies depending upon micro-cracks and discontinuites of rock cores.

  • This study was carried out to investigate vibration shock and dropping shock of refrigerator during physical distribution. The values of vibration shock were measured to be ${\sim}3G$ for up and down direction, ${\sim}0.8G$ for right and left direction and ${\sim}0.5G$ for back and forth direction on the national road. There was no damage during transport. From the results of dropping test by KS A 1026(General Rules of Performance Testing for Packaged Freights), relative equations were gained as follow : y = 0.12x + 7.63(where y is G-factor and x is Dropping height). The maximum values of dropping shock during materials handling were measured to be 11G. This shock value was corresponding to dropping shocks of dropping height 28.3cm by KS A 1026.

  • Diesel engine is a major source of the air pollution. In general the concentrations of these pollu-tants in diesel engine exhaust differ from values calculated assuming chemical equibrium. Thus the detailed chemical mechanisms by which these pollutions form and the kinetic of these process-es are important in determining emission levels. In this study the computer program has been developed to calculate the required thermodynam-ic properties of combustion products(10 spacies) for both equilibrium and non-equilibrium in cylin-der for diesel engines. Nitric oxide emissions are calculated by using the extended Zeldovich Kinet-ic mechanism with a steady state assumption for the N concentration and equilibrium values used for H, O, $O_2$ and OH concentrations. By the results it is confirmed that developed simulations program with the NO prediction model is validated against residual mass fraction combustion index of Wiebe's functions pre-mixed com-bustion ration fuel injection timing.

  • Owing to the rapid progress in manufacturing technology of microscale devices, there are active research works in developing microscale propulsion systems. In this study, gas flows in nozzles with size of milli and sub-millimeter are investigated by using a CFD code based on the Navier-Stokes equations. The prediction results were compared with theoretical results of quasi-one-dimensional nozzle flow and experiment data. In general, theoretical values agree very well with the CFD results. However, theoretical values begin to deviate from the CFD and experimental data for relatively small Reynolds numbers and the nozzle shape with rectangular cross section. The primary reason for this discrepancy is due to the existence of the thick boundary layer at the wall in low Reynolds flows.

  • The Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) is a standara still-image compression technique, established by the International for Standardization (ISO) and International Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITUT). The standard is intended to be utilized in the various kinds of color still imaging systems as a standard color image coding format. Because JPEG is a lossy compression, the decompressed image pixel values are nto the same as values before compression. Image of JPEG compression is often made to JPEG recompression at saving to apply JPEG compression of color image. In general, JPEG is a lossy compression and compression image is predicted to be varied image quality according to recompressed Q-factor. Various distortions of JPEG compression and JPEG recompression has been reported in previous paper. In this paper, we compress four difference color samples (photo image, gradient image, vector drawing image, text image) according to various Q-factor, and then compressed images are recompressed according to various Q-factor once again. As the results, we inspect variation of quality and file size of recompressed color image, and ensure the optimum recompression factor.

  • This paper shows a general development process for aircraft gas turbine combustors. As a first step for developing the preliminary combustor design program, several combustor sizing methodologies using reference area concepts are reviewed. There are three ways to determine the reference area; 1) combustion efficiency approach, 2) pressure loss approach, 3) velocity assumption approach. The current study shows the comparisons of the calculated results of combustor reference values from the pressure loss and velocity assumption approaches. Further works are required to add iterative steps in the program using more reasonable values of pressure loss and velocities, and to evaluate the sizing results using data for actual combustor performance and sizes.
