Comparative Study of the Korean Pharmacopoeia with North Korean Pharmacopoeia (남.북한 약전에 대한 비교조사연구)

  • With the Sunshine policy, exchange of materials and cultures inter Koreas has been broadened and expectancy of reunification is getting higher. Especially, medical supplies and medicines are one of the biggest parts in the exchange goods. So, preparing an unified official drug standard preparing new medical administration system is required. We compared the Korean pharmacopoeia with North Korean Pharmacopoeia. Two pharmacopoeias have been developed in different direction and have many differences in the nomenclature and format. In this study, we compared general notices, general rules for preparations and crude drugs, monographs, general tests, processes and apparatus.

Mass-loss of massive helium star supernova progenitors shortly before explosion constrained by supernova radio properties

  • Mass-loss of massive helium stars is not well understood even though it plays an essential role in determining their remnant neutron-star or black hole masses as well as ejecta mass of Type Ibc supernovae (SNe Ibc). Radio emission from SNe Ibc is strongly affected by circumstellar matter properties formed by mass-loss of their massive helium star progenitors. In this study, we estimate the rise time and peak luminosity distributions of SNe Ibc in radio based on a few massive helium star mass-loss prescriptions and compare them with the observed distribution to constrain the uncertain massive helium star mass-loss rates. We find that massive helium stars in the luminosity range expected for ordinary SNe Ibc progenitors (4.6≲log L/L≲5.2) should generally have large mass-loss rates (≳10-6Myr-1) in order to account for the observed rise time and peak luminosity distribution. Therefore, mass-loss prescriptions that predict significantly low mass-loss rates for helium stars in this luminosity range is inconsistent with the SN radio observations. It is also possible that massive helium stars shortly before their explosion generally undergo mass-loss enhancement in a different way from the standard radiation-driven wind mechanism.

Cosmological evolution of orientations of cluster-sized dark matter haloes and their central galaxies in the Horizon-AGN simulation

  • It is known observationally that the major axes of galaxy clusters and their brightest cluster galaxies are roughly aligned with each other. To understand the origin of the alignment, we identify 40 cluster-sized dark matter (DM) haloes with masses higher than 5 × 1013 M and their central galaxies (CGs) at z ≈ 0 in the Horizon-AGN cosmological hydrodynamical simulation. We trace the progenitors at 50 different epochs between 0 < z < 5. We then fit their shapes and orientations with a triaxial ellipsoid model. While the orientations of both DM haloes and CGs change significantly due to repeated mergers and mass accretions, their relative orientations are well aligned at each epoch even at high redshifts, z > 1. The alignment becomes tighter with cosmic time; the major axes of the CGs and their host DM haloes at present are aligned on average within ~30° in the 3D space and ~20° in the projected plane. The orientations of the major axes of DM haloes on average follow one of the eigenvectors of the surrounding tidal field that corresponds to the slowest collapsing (or even stretching) mode, and the alignment with the tidal field also becomes tighter. This implies that the orientations of CGs and DM haloes at the present epoch are largely imprinted in the primordial density field of the universe, whereas strong dynamical interactions such as mergers are important to explain their mutual alignment at each epoch.

Time variations of H2O and SiO masers in the proto-Planetary Nebula OH 231.8+4.2

  • H2O (22 GHz) and SiO masers (43, 86, 129 GHz) in the bipolar proto-planetary nebula OH 231.8+4.2 were simultaneously monitored using the 21-m antennas of the Korean VLBI Network in 2009-2015. Both species exhibit periodic flux variations that correlate with the central star's optical light curve, with a phase delay of up to 0.15 for the maser flux variations with respect to the optical light curve. The flux densities of SiO v = 2, J = 1→0 and H2O masers decrease with time, implying that they may disappear in 10-20 yr. However, there seems to have been a transient episode of intense H2O maser emission around 2010. We also found a systematic behaviour in the velocity profiles of these masers. The velocities of the H2O maser components appear to be remarkably constant, suggesting ballistic motion for the bipolar outflow in this nebula. On the other hand, those of the SiO maser clumps show a systematic radial acceleration of the individual clumps, converging to the outflow velocity of the H2O maser clumps. Measuring the full widths at zero power of the detected lines, we estimated the expansion velocities of the compact bipolar outflow traced by H2O maser and SiO thermal line, and discussed the possibility of the expanding SiO maser region in the equatorial direction. All of our analyses support that the central host star of OH231.8 is close to the tip of the AGB phase and that the mass-loss rate recently started to decrease because of incipient post-AGB evolution.

Direct effects of the environment on AGN triggering in SDSS spiral galaxies: merger-AGN connection

  • We examine whether galaxy environments directly affect triggering nuclear activity in Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) local spiral galaxies using a volume-limited sample with the r-band absolute magnitude Mr < -19.0 and 0.02 <z< 0.055 selected from the SDSS Data Release 7. To avoid incompleteness of the central velocity dispersion σ of the volume-limited sample and to fix the black hole mass affecting AGN activity, we limit the sample to a narrow σ range of 130 km s-1 <σ< 200 km s-1. We define a variety of environments as a combination of neighbour interactions and local density on a galaxy. After the central star formation rate (which is closely related to AGN activity level) is additionally restricted, the direct impact of the environment is unveiled. In the outskirts of rich clusters, red spiral galaxies show a significant excess of the AGN fraction despite the lack of central gas. We argue that they have been pre-processed before entering the rich clusters, and due to mergers or strong encounters in the in-fall region, their remaining gases efficiently lose angular momentum. We investigate an environment in which many star-forming galaxies coexist with a few starburst-AGN composite hosts having the highest [OIII] luminosity. We claim that they are a gas-rich merger product in groups or are group galaxies in-falling into clusters, indicating that many AGN signatures may be obscured following the merger events.

  • This study describes the works on development of a scenario-based WBT system of electronic commerce to introduce and activate electronic commerce in our society because it is mostly required to correctly understand electronic commerce and timely educate its users and technicians for entering into global electronic commerce that binds every commercial area regardless of the borders and nationalities. This system, WBT(Web - Based Training of Electronic commerce), consists of two parts. The one part provides a general concept of EC. This is developed to meet the needs of beginner for EC. The other is a simulator for cyber shopping mall. It is designed for teaching how to shop at cyber shopping mall based on various scenarios. In addition, we can simulate ourselves for EDI, which enables trading partners to conduct routine business transaction, such as purchase orders, invoices and shopping notices with it. Our commitment to the development of this application is consistent with the objectives of being easy to learn electronic commerce and its applications in real world.

Comparison of the Effect of Music and Noise Blocking on Postoperative Pain, Length of Stay at Post Anesthetic Care Unit and Satisfaction after a Laparoscopic Colectomy (음악요법과 소음차단요법이 수술 후 통증, 진통제 투여량, 회복실 체류시간 및 만족도에 미치는 효과 비교)

  • Purpose: This study compared the effect of music and noise blocking on the vital signs, postoperative pain, analgesic use, length of stay in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and satisfaction after a laparoscopic colectomy. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was performed in a 555-bed National Cancer Center, from February 13 through May 31, 2012. Subjects consisted of 69 patients who underwent a laparoscopic colectomy under general anesthesia, and were recruited by informed notices. The inclusion criteria were patients between the ages of 35-75, with an American Society Anesthesiologist physical classification I or II. The subjects were randomly allocated to three groups; music therapy group (MTG), noise blocking group (NBG) and control group (CG). Collected data were analyzed using Repeated measures ANOVA, one-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis test through IBM SPSS (Version 19.0). Results: There were no significant differences in vital signs among the three groups. Postoperative pain in MTG (p<.05) and NBG (p<.05) was significantly decreased compared to CG. The amount of analgesics (p=.030) and length of stay at PACU (p=.021) in MTG was significantly decreased compared to NBG or CG; satisfaction in MTG and NBG was significantly higher compared to CG. Conclusion: Music seems to reduce postoperative pain, the amount of analgesics, and the length of stay at PACU. Therefore, music therapy is considered to be included in nursing intervention for postoperative patients at PACU.

Amplification and Howling Suppression of Telephonic Speech for the Hearing-Impaired Person (난청인을 위한 전화기 음성증폭 및 하울링 억제)

  • To provide sufficient sound to the hearing-impaired person(HIP) who have many difficulty in communication with others using general telephone, big amplification is needed. But big amplification can occur howling as a side effect. In this study we developed the new technique of big amplification without howling, manufactured and estimated the new hearing aid telephone. Telephone speech is divided to three frequency band, amplified respectively and fitted to HIP's hearing ability. The telephone speech frequency is monitored by counter in time domain. The counter transfers the sinusoidal sound to rectangular wave using comparator and counts the number of rectangular wave in a certain time period, that is frequency, to monitor the howling. Telephone have microphone and speaker, which are fitted in a rigid structure and frequency band of telephone sound is limited, so howling occurs in the limited frequency band. If the counter notices that howling conditions happen, microprocessor decreases quickly the gain of the related frequency band. The result of test of our new hearing aid telephone showed that we can amplifiy the sound as much as 40dB, which is meaningful level to many HIP, and make HIP increase their perception ability from 20% to 60.8% in 1 syllable test and from 28.9% to 78% in 2 syllable test.

A sectoral comparison of the influence of the intellectual property rights system on technological innovation and financial performance: Korean pharmaceutical, semiconductor and shipbuilding industries (지식재산권 강화가 기술혁신과 경영성과에 미치는 영향의 산업별 비교연구: 한국의 제약, 반도체, 조선 산업)

  • Despite many theoretical and empirical studies, general causality between IPRs system, firm technological innovation and financial performance is not clear. This study notices that the core factor to create financial performance is different by each industry. The study analyzed the effect of IPRs system on innovation and economic growth targeting 3 industries; pharmaceutical industry to which the basic track of creating performance is applied (strengthening IPRs${\rightarrow}$increasing R&D input/output${\rightarrow}$increasing sales); semiconductor industry where the relationship between stronger IPRs and R&D input/output is weak; and shipbuilding industry which has weak correlation between R&D and sales. It used panel data for 15 years since TRIPs when the patent institution in Korea reached up to the level of advanced countries, and applied the dynamic regression model which estimates the fixed effect model with difference-GMM. As a result, stronger IPRs increased R&D input/output, and financial performance in pharmaceutical industry, but has no influence on semiconductor and shipbuilding industries. That is, it is necessary to customize the construction of system and policy for strengthening IPRs by each industry, and unitary strengthening or weakening may have no significant impact on financial performance improvement in specific sectors.
